16oz glass at the Burnside tap takeover at the Underground in Edmonton.
This beer appears a hazy, pale golden amber colour, with one thin finger of frothy, weakly foamy, and bubbly off-white head, which leaves some splotchy cloudy lace around the glass as it quickly abates.
It smells of underripe lemons, salt and pepper, further indistinct citrus notes, and an earthy flintiness. The taste is grainy pale malt, lemon and white grapefruit rind, iodine, rainbow peppercorns, and plain earthy, weedy hops.
The carbonation is quite tame in its low-key fizziness, the body a so-so medium weight, and kind of smooth. It finishes pretty much dry, the graininess and lingering salted citrus melding well.
A decent example of an esoteric, hard to love style, what with the weather and mentality around here still mired in thoughts of stronger offerings. Worthy of a go, however, if this sort of thing floats yer boat.
