16oz Yankee pint at the Underground's tap takeover for this particular Rose City brewery.
This beer appears a murky, dark red-tinted amber colour, with a thin cap of wispy and weakly foamy off-white head, which leaves some underwhelming craggy limestone ledge lace around the glass as it quickly blows off.
It smells of bready caramel malt, bittersweet chocolate, a certain red fruitiness that I'm not yet ready to admit as the real deal, minor hard water flinty notes, and earthy, leafy hops. The taste is grainy, bready caramel malt, understated cocoa powder, dime store strawberry candies, and a particularly absent rum essence - booze alone doesn't qualify, I'm afraid.
The carbonation is not really all that, what with its limp frothiness, the body a solid medium-heavy weight, and smooth enough, with a tiny nascent creaminess. It finishes well off-dry, the plain as the day is long choco-strawberry sweetness not exactly doing it for me.
Yeah, nice job (slow, slow clap), rep unnamed, who brought in a bland, and late as shit 'Valentines' brew. Leftovers are not cool, despite what you might think.

Got better as it warmed up. Didn't get strawberry or chocolate on the nose, small bit of rum.
