Had this in a tulip glass filled from a growler from the brewery. Nice aroma- vanilla is clear. This is a solid beer. The alcohol is surprisingly well hidden (compared to something like SN Narwhal). The flavor is typical for the style with perhaps a little more bitterness than I was expecting. Malt comes through on the after taste. It leaves my mouth feeling a little dry after each sip.
I like this beer. Not my favorite imperial stout, but I would definitely have it again.

2011 vintage. Poured from a 22 oz bottle into a Pipeworks snifter.
A- pours pitch black with a 2 finger dark tan head. A few blotches of lacing on the glass.
S- bitter coffee, roast, sour dark fruits dominate the aroma though.
T- roasted malts, coffee, sour blueberries and raspberries, bitter pine and a medicinal flavor.
M- medium body and carbonation. Effervescent and acidic, finishes dry.
O- not sure if this beer has some infection going on or what. Sour dark fruits, acidity, and medicinal flavors would leave to believe something is off with this beer, to at least I hope it's not intentional.

I got this as an extra a few months ago and it's just been sitting in the beer fridge since.... waiting for me to get to it.
Dark black body with a decent creamy tan head. Weak retention, even weaker lacing-- only the spottiest little chunklets remain.
Smells of bitter cocoa, a little acrid smokey roastedness, and some mild sweetness.
Little bitterness on the backend that finishes much more dryly than expected.
Feels thick and hearty.... meaty and full-bodied.
Overall-- not bad, but not mind-blowing either. If this were sitting on shelves in 4/6 packs, I'd certainly keep some on hand in the fridge, at the very least as an offering to my friends that like stouts but aren't really into beer. This has its charm, but won't be scoring over 4 from too many heavy reviewers.

Poured from a growler into an Intuition pint glass.
A-almost pitch black with a fingers worth of cream/mocha mixed colored head
S- cocoa up front, fresh tobacco, maybe some raisins and mostly standard oak for a stout, hoppy also for a stout
M- somewhat thin, this is where the beer loses it for me a little, even though I'm a fan overall, its just watery compared to som.e of the quality stouts out there
T- tastes like weak chocolate hops, unique for a stout and that's what I appreciate about this brewery. Also tastes like skunky wood on a cold winters night in a good way.
O-Somehow it all works out to be a solid offering that I'd get every few months if they'd brew it more (unfortunately everytime I've gone in the past 4 months they've been dry of it).

A - Really carbonated giving me over an inch of head of head that seems to bubble out rather quickly cluing me in that this stout doesn't have enough body. Tons of bubbles at the base yet it seems dark enough pitch black to be stout like.
S - Smells of piney hops (hopefully not too bitter) molasses and tobacco. Roast and chocolate seems to be in the mix but faint.
T - Really heavy on the hops. Almost at the same level as Victory's "Storm King Stout" yet it seems more balanced. Makes it somewhat easier to drink though because it bitters then roasty malts come to play with a bakers chocolate like finish. Not bad at all.
M - This is where it looses some points. The body seems more "bubbly" giving it more or less a medium body feel. It does hide the ABV well though.
Overall not a bad stout so I am puzzled by the low score even though it very similar to Storm King which is world class. Eh I am not a huge fan of hoppy imperial stouts so I may not revisit again. Worth the 5 bucks for a bomber though.

Poured from a 22 oz bottle into a pint glass.
A: Pours an opaque deep black color with a frothy dark tan head forming at the top of the pour. Very little lacing on the sides of the glass.
S: Rich roasted malt aroma with some molasses. Some alcohol in the nose as well.
T: Sweetness of caramelized sugar and molasses hits the tongue at the outset. Rich roasted malt and bitter espresso overtake the flavor profile in the middle of the sip. Creamy sweetened milk in the finish.
M: This is where the beer is really lacking. This beer doesn't come close to the medium to thick mouthfeel that one would expect from a stout. It is quite thin and light, almost watery.
Overall, this is a pretty good Imperial Stout with the exception of the mouthfeel. The flavor profile is on target and well balanced. The 10% ABV is masked very well.

From notes on 02/24/12:
No freshness date; Poured in a snifter.
A - One inch of frothy, creamy tan head with decent retention; Pitch black in color; Some patches of lacing left behind
S - Overall faint aroma with roasty, earthy, chocolate, and syrupy notes; Some alcohol is detected
T - Pleasant flavor with a decent shot of bitterness up front; Chocolate, roasty, earthy, raisiny, syrupy, tobacco, and molasses flavors come forward with just a bit of alcohol as well
M - Low carbonation; Close to full bodied; Creamy and smooth mouthfeel with just a touch of warmth from the alcohol
O - Overall, this was a pretty tasty imperial stout. The only thing holding this beer back is it's faint aroma, but otherwise it's an all around solid beer that seemed to get better as it warmed. I wouldn't mind enjoying this brew again the next time I come across it.

Poured from a bomber into two pint glasses.
Pours a thick, syrupy dark brown with an inch or more mocha head with lots of purple tinged throughout. Very interesting and appealing appearance overall. Leaves impressive lines of lacing behind that stand around for the majority of the drink.
Smells strongly of chocolates and wild berries particularly, with hints of maple syrup (specifically, it reminds me of blueberry pancakes) and some malts.
There's a nice, hop spiciness in the initial attack, which dissipates quickly into more complex and indicative tastes of fermented fruits and dark chocolates. Dark licorice lingers momentarily before coffee-esque bitter flavors carry it out rather smoothly, Overall, it's rather unique, managing not to be overly fruity but still containing that definite berry flavor that colors the beer in a complex way.
It is strongly syrupy, with a medium-high mouthfeel that might bother some, and it also is only mildly carbonated, which allows for lots of the flavors to seep through unhindered but also makes the feel even more syrupy.
It's an extremely solid Imperial Stout overall, and unique because of its balanced blending of flavors, plus the bit of fruity sweetness it brings along. It's a little on the syrupy side, which can make nursing a full bomber somewhat problematic if you're not up to the task, but overall it's definitely worthwhile.
