Notes:
This rich, malty, and delicious stout is a cousin of our "Indignant" brew, without the barrel aging, but with the same great notes of coffee, espresso, and roasty toasty-ness. Be an Indignari for the Indignant!

Had on tap at Haymarket. Served in a 16 oz. goblet.
A: Pours a dark black with a light mocha head forming on the pour. It recedes to a thin ring and leaves some splotchy lace down the glass.
S: Very heavy on the roast with some unsweetened chocolate notes and light coffee beans. Mild star anise.
T: Same as the nose. Very heavy on the roasted malts with light ground coffee presence. Dark fruits, mainly figs, with a little anise..
M: Medium to heavy bodied with a medium carbonation level. Dry, roasty finish.
O: This was nice, but I fee like this is a beer that is made for barrel aging. It's a little rough around the edges and is much better coming from the barrel.

On-tap at Haymarket. Served in a 5oz taster glass. Also had a few of these at Stout Fest.
A - Tan foam settles to a partial cap, thick collar, and splotchy lacing. Very dark brown body with with some ruby-brown transparency at the edges of the glass.
S - Nice mix of baker's chocolate, roast, light coffee, licorice, and dark bread. Definitely American in the sweetness level - almost Export Stout-esque in that way, but with a bit more heft. Alcohol is quite well hidden.
T - The taste is a bit more heavy on the anise, with more mild coffee and chocolate notes. There's a bit of date and raisin mixed in for good measure, and only a mild roast component.
M - Smooth medium body, lightly toasty and dry in texture, with zesty carbonation. This batch seems strangely thin - even thinner than the barrel-aged version. I'm guessing this has something to do with the near-4% reduction in ABV as well. No alcohol content, which is a plus.
D - A solid American Imperial Stout, particularly if you like anise and dark chocolate without the commensurate European char and smoke notes. Doubt I'd ever order this over the bourbon barrel version, but it's a serviceable offering.

Half finger tan head on a jet black body. Aroma is loaded with vanilla, earthy hops, whip cream and roasted malts. Flavor is very unique and dynamic. Flavor opens with vanilla, sweet cream and roasted malts which continue throughout but the finish is very very metallic, close to chewing aluminum. This one is hard to drink for me due to the sweetness. Medium body and moderate carbonation. It's just too sweet for me.

On-tap at Haymarket. Served in a 12 oz chalice.
A- pours pitch black with a thin dark tan head. Minimal lacing.
S- lots of dark chocolate, roast, coffee, hint of pine
T- sweet roasted malts, dark chocolate, dark fruits, ash, and some bitterness at the finish.
M- full body, low carbonation. Much bigger beer tha expected after having the rye barrel version recently that was a little thin.
O- awesome RIS. Very good balance and mouthfeel. No wonder the bourbon indignant is so damn good!
