poured from draft. Pours a dark orange color with a foamy head.

very aromatic with notes of hops, navel oranges, and all sorts of other citrus aromas.

Full bodied, but lacking a bit on the mid and finish. Balanced with good flavors of navel oranges and hops.

This was a very good DIPA. Decent depth on both with bigger notes as well. Not the most complex DIPA though.

Growler so graciously provided by my likely future brother-in-law John. Not BA on this site, but most certainly an advocate of beer. Thank you, buddy.

Poured into my Great Taste of the Midwest sample glass. Appears rusty orange with a lethargic sloth-like march of tiny bubbles up the center. Head disappears very quickly and the surface is still.

Gingerbread and brown sugar collide with a slightly floral quality. A touch of plastic peaks in as well along with a light underpinning of unripened pineapple.

Lemon pledge quality from the Amarillo is much more evident on the taste than the nose. A sugary candy sweetness rides throughout the middle with some of the dry pineapple coming through on the finish. Bitterness is really on the low end here.

Body is light and only mildly sticky. Despite a gnarly hiss upon opening, carbonation is low.

Overall, this is a decent DIPA but nothing special. I enjoyed my glass but don't see myself seeking this out anytime soon. As always, however, I really appreciate the generosity and advocacy involved when others take the time and effort to allow me to try a new beer. In this case, a brewery that is new to me (regrettably late to the party) is also a plus.

On-tap at Haymarket. Served in a 4oz taster glass. This is the second batch, and not a keg from February.

A - Generous white foam that has excellent retention and eventually settles to a thick chunky cap, leaving behind glass-coating lace. Transparent dark bronze body.

S - Generous amounts of pithy citrus, with heavy doses of grapefruit and lemon. There's a nice onion and chive flavor, as well as some mild herb and pine flavors. Malt character is quite understated.

T - The taste is also heavy on lemon and grapefruit, with pine and herbal bitterness presenting in the finish. Again, very low malt presence, and shockingly well-hidden 8% ABV. I wish I could give this a 4.25, but it doesn't quite have the pop of the aroma.

M - Medium body, pleasant moderate-to-low carbonation, dry texture, some hop oils and resins in the finish, and no obvious alcohol. Drinks more like an IPA+ than like a DIPA.

D - This was great - I crushed my 4oz pour and ordered a 12oz serving later in the evening. There's a very West Coast vibe here with the lower ABV, dryness, and minimal malt character. This doesn't taste anything like the reviews I saw on Ratebeer for the February batch - I wonder if Pete tweaked the recipe based on their feedback?
