Notes:
The brainchild of Jeff Sparrow and our own Director of Fermentation, this Belgian IPA is 30% rye and hopped with Amarillo and Cascade. Pairs well with pulled pork chili, bacon mac n cheese... anything from a pig, really.

I really like this beer. It reminds me of something from the other side of the pond (as in: it's that good). Great floral and perfume tones. Mellow sweetness that is pronounced but not obnoxious. I consider it, and most other aspects of this brew, spot on. I can definitely highly suggest this beer. And this would definitely be a personal favorite if I had easy access to it.

Appearance-
Copper with a one finger white head.
Smell-
Clean fruity hop, Belgian yeast at the end boosted by the rye.
Taste-
Strangely a bit of tropical fruits of front melting into the spiciness of rye and Belgian yeast.
Mouthfeel-
Thicker than most with this much hops, low carbonation.
Overall-
A mixed style with many different things competing for attention, but it does an excellent job. Amarillo hops always please me, and towards the end I swear I tasted more and more banana.

We were at the brewery yesterday in Chicago, and tried every beer they make. This is definitely the best one.
The smell of this beer is amazing. Like you're sticking your face into a bouquet of flowers.
I was hesitant about the taste at first because bitter beers like IPA's are an instant turn-off for me. But they somehow managed to make an IPA that gives you the flavor of the hops, without leaving a bitter aftertaste. This lets the yeasty Belgian flavor shine through and create a great flavor balance and complexity. The taste is very well "sustained" throughout the drink if that makes sense. It doesn't change much while it's in your mouth - just gradually fades away, while remaining delicious.
Lots of reasons why I'm very impressed with this beer.

On tap at Haymarker
A - Hazy yellow with a slight gold glow. Smaller, foamy white head that settled down to a light layer of foam floating on top
S - Definitely has a Belgian nose with banana and clove esters dominating. There are also hints of mango and tangerine
T - Up front there is sweet mango. Then I get a slight pine bitterness in the middle before sweet, ripe bananas come through. The finish is full of clove spice.
MF - Medium body with light carbonation. Slight resin remains in the finish
O - Solid Belgian IPA that leans more to the Belgian side with a slight hop presence. I'm not a huge fan of Belgian IPAs that are more Belgian than IPA; however, I have to admit that this one is pretty solid.

Served in a tumbler at the brewpub.
Never played the game, never gonna. Yup. Regardless, this stuff pours a clear brass topped by a finger of lightly off-white foam. The nose comprises grapefruit zest, mild toffee, and very light pine needles. The taste brings in more of the same, with decidedly more pine, this time taking on a slightly grassy character. The body is a light medium, with a light moderate carbonation and a dry finish. Overall, a nice brew, though the Belgian-ness and rye never really fully express themselves to me. Still, it's pretty tasty, so I can sorta overlook that fact.

Single finger head with excellent lacing on a hazy golden body. Aroma is fruit and spicy but the alcohol is strong for the ABV. The same thing happens with the flavor with the ABV and alcohol content coming through sharply for the 7.8 ABV. It distracts from the carmal malts, syrup and candied citrus flavors. Medium body and moderate carbonation. Not a fan of this one. The Belgian character is poorly applied and it's hard to drink.

Growler courtesy of my brother-in-law Brian. Advocacy at its finest! Thanks, B-Mac!
Pours yellow with a thin cover and minimal stick.
Spicy lemon drops, bubblegum, and yeast on the nose. Too much Belgian yeast and not enough IPA for my taste here.
Rye bread, lemon from the Amarillo is not so much zest as it is the type that comes from the little plastic lemon bottles, and a heavy bubble gum and banana yeast infection atop.
Bah! I just don't care for Belgian yeast in general and it really does nothing beneficial for this beer. I'd like to try this rye ipa without the detrimental effects of the yeast as I feel it's really detracting here.

On guest tap at the Three Floyds.
Pours dark amber with a nice little head. Smells spicy, with honey nodes and euro hops. A very dry aroma, although some light citrus nodes become more present as the beer gets a little warmer.
Flavor is hoppier than the aroma, with cascade hops washing over the aforementioned dry spice profile. It isn't exactly complicated--it's basically cascade into spice and then a dry aftertaste--but everything comes together quite nicely, and while strong it's also smooth and that smoothness belies the fairly high ABV.
