I enjoyed this at Botequim Informal in Leblon while visiting some friends in Rio De Janeiro. Restaurants in Brazil are vicious in their competition for the title of best "draft house" in the city even though there are only three popular draft beers here (Kaiser, Antarctica, and Brahma), and a restaurant will only serve 1 of the three, no mixing of brands here. So to win the title of best draft house really depends on the pour and apparently Botequim Informal has been voted Rio's best draft house for 3 years running. As the beer arrived to my table I started to realize why. A magnificent billowing creamy white head sat upon a golden color body. I won't talk about taste that much because the taste is very similiar to Skol, in that it's ok but nothing special, but the body in this beer was heavenly. It was like drinking a cloud. Extremely light and creamy. I will admit that if i haven't had this beer in draft form outside of this bar, so it probably isn't normally like what i experienced, but i can only review what i know.

My Brother-in-Law brought this back from Brazil*. He told me it cost approximately 39 cents a can and it tasted like it. Gold with a large head that never went away. I smelled faint wheat tones maybe a small lemon or fruit. Taste was clean with no malt or hops to mention. It reminded me a of a Bud Light. Can't complain too much though.
*Off topic: what a nice job, flying planes from a manufacturer in Brazil to St. Martin to Cleveland.

A work trip to Brazil this week, gave me the chance to sample some local delights. After a disappointing try of Cintra Pilsner at the Top Beer Bar, I moved up the Avenue Atlântica in Copacabana Beach, Rio de Janeiro, and decided to call in a Restaurant Café for some food, as well as a more well known and widespread Brazilian beer.
Listed on the Menu as Chopp da Brahma, this is basically the standard lager offering from Brahma. Widely available in the Can here, I actually tried this on Draft (Tap).
Presentation: Slightly yellowy looking fluid, with a massive pearl white head that sits tightly in a 250ml glass, a strange and rather small size I found - still not a bad idea really for trying a range of Brazilian Lagers I suppose.
Nose: Grainy, very light in strength with some whiffs of pilsner like malts.
Taste: Clean, crisp, rather an easy going beverage that is totally inoffensive. Some malts and very light hops, but not much else to write home about really.
Mouthfeel: There is a satisfying feel to the beer in the mouth, mainly due to the smooth carbonation, not too bad really.
Drinkability: On a hot day its a six-pack pounder lager; on a cool one evening sat outside in Brazils Winter, I could still easily sink a few without any trouble, but its never going to win any prizes for appeal.
Overall: Very average, with no surprises but by no means bad. The Brahma Extra if you can get your hands on it (Bottles only I believe) is a much better offering though.
