A - Jet-black color with an off-white, one-finger head of foam.

S - It smelled of java. Nice coffee and chocolate aromas.

T - Good coffee and chocolate flavors with a touch of toffee. Roasty with a touch of bitterness.

M - It was crisp, sharp and smooth. A medium bodied ale with a dry, clean finish.

O - Another good brew from 2nd Shift. Please, keep sending them our way!

Pours dark in color with a huge chocolaty head that settles to form a nice ring with minimal lacing. Nose is dark and milk chocolates with a little bit of coffee aromas. Taste starts off with milk chocolates that move to more of a dry, dark chocolate flavor. A touch of dark fruit is there, but is quickly lost in the chocolate shuffle. Ends dry with a touch of burnt malt and coffee flavor with more dark chocolates. Mouth is a little watery and thin for the style, but decent. Overall, this is a solid stout. Full of flavor, not über complex, but whats there is delicious. Another winner from 2nd Shift.

on tap at Baileys range, served in tulip

pour is dead black with a cocoa creamy and frothy head.

loads of roasted malt with a hint of chocolate and sugar

heavy on the roasted malt all around. bits of charcoal blended with a subtle sweetness. some dark chocolate mixed within.

light and easy, mild carbonation, a bit dry

easy drinking, enjoyable, no hint of this being 7.10% abv, i would have though closer to 5.5.

750ml bottle.

Pours pitch black with a very dark tan head, extremely thick, that leaves lots of lacing and a thick rocky cap.

Aroma is roasty with tons of dark malts and hints of coffee and cocoa powder. There is also an earthy, maybe hoppy, presence in the nose. There is also some vanilla.

The taste is also very roasty, plenty of cocoa and a hint of smoke. Sweet vanilla and roasted coffee notes in the background. Finish is bitter and highly roasty.

The mouthfeel is medium bodied with strong carbonation and, again, very roasty.

This is a nice, easy drinking stout that sticks to the roasty character throughout. The sweetness is mild but present. Very good.

Poured into a tulip glass from a 750ml bottle.

A - Pours a silky dark brown color with some mahogany edges. Its more like dark dark brown than black. There is a nice 1.5 inch tan head that is quite sticky. It recedes very slowly and has some nice dense and creamy bubbles. Very attractive beer that just calls out to you.

S - Starts off with some malt roast. Very strong yet appealing coffee and some slight smoke. Sweet milk chocolate and cocoa powder notes transcend a bit through the roast. Nice espresso edges on the nose. There is some slight hop herbal notes to it.

T & M - Starts off with a delicious roasted note that evolves into a very burnt grain note. There is some slight chocolate aftertaste but it seems a bit one dimensional. There are some slight lactose notes but the burnt malt notes quickly overtake these. The finish is dry and bitter with the lactose lingering for a bit. Mouthfeel is a bit on the light side. I feel like it could be a bit more chewy.

O - Its a good effort but Im not really feeling it right now. It is a bit one dimensional. Good roasted notes but that is all I perceive.
