This was our first stop on the Indy brew bus this past weekend and I must say it was my least favorite. There isn't much of an atmosphere at all besides some chairs made out of shopping carts. They did have a patio that looked cool but we all stayed inside.
Every beer I tried was very mediocre. They had a barrel aged porter with vanilla beans that sounded great. It was bland and very thin. The best beers that had were the ipa and pale ale. Both had a nice smell and a decent taste.
Overall this is a not a place I would return to do drinking or fill a growler.

I may be a bit prone to love Flat 12 because it is right in my neighborhood, but I think it is deserving of this rating. It has a good atmosphere, especially when it is nice enough to use the outdoor patio and fire pit. All beers are of at least solid quality, with a few that are very good. The porter, IPA's and some specialty stouts really stand out. The service is always great, with friendly pours and the head brewer often on-site. The selection is really great. There is always something new, some small batch aged with spices or peppers, etc. No real food, but often a food cart or food from Smoking Goose nearby. The value is fair, with pints around 4 bucks and growlers usually around 8-10 bucks.

October 2012 - I stopped back 1 year later when in town and this place is still amazing! The beers are still top notch and the people are super friendly! The outside has a fire pit and lots of seating. The food truck was a nice touch as you need to eat after trying all their beers(for free!) Pints were $5. The Walkabout IPA is a must try! They now are bottling beer which I bought and shipped back to PA. And sure enough I got another ride back to my hotel. These people are outstanding!
October 2011 - I stopped here while out of town on business. What a find! The place was great and the people were so friendly. I highly recommend stopping in for some beer if you come to town. I was shocked to find out that they had only been open for a year and already were making such amazing beers! Since I walked to this place from Sun King I needed a cab to get back to down town the brewer offered to help call one but instead one of the customers offered to drop me off if I didn't mind staying for a few more beers. Which I gladly accepted.
Food is just a pizza station outside but wow what great thin crust pizza.
Beers were a huge selection. I think they had 12 to taste for free! If you wanted a full pint you could buy one also. I loved the beer so much I got a growler filled to drink at my hotel the next night.
I think this brewery will be growing fast! And I hope they find their way to the east coast
I'll be stopping back next time I'm in town!

Located on what appears to be the not-quite-yet gentrified street of Dorman, Flat 12 is about as bare-bones of an operation as it could possibly be.
Upon entering the front door, there is a table set up in the back on the room to facilitate growler sales. To the right is the "tasting room" which was really nothing more than an open space with some interestingly repurposed shopping carts and a couple of folding tables that forms the "bar."
What is impressive is the number of beers available - easily over a dozen ranging all of the styles. And they are quality beers, some better than others, but I didn't taste a bad one in the bunch. What is less than impressive are the plastic cups the beer is served in.
Food is from Smoking Goose across the street. Literally. When you place an order someone physically runs across the street to give it to Smoking Goose and then runs it back across the street for you. Considering Smoking Goose makes an excellent product they alone are worth the visit to Dorman street.
Prices are reasonable - roughly $5/beer give or take. Growler prices varied depending on the beer, but were generally less than $12 growler and somewhere around $5-$7 for 32oz bullets.
Overall, Flat 12 is a very interesting Brewpub with a lot of potential. The beers are far better than average and the food from Smoking Goose is the perfect complement. However, the rough-shod atmosphere, lack of glassware, and the inability to find a proper chair or table are unfortunate distractions that hopefully will be rectified as Flat 12 continues to grow.

Entrance room - Growler sales and bathrooms
Tasting Room - Samples, pints, food orders, giant TV, a few tables
Patio - More seating, fire pit, cornhole
Finally made it here on St Paddy's Day. East side of downtown. Simple enough brewery, described above. Not sure if people dragged tables/chairs outside with the nice weather - tons of room to move around in the tasting room. Taps are set up behind a few folding tables. Able to sample to my heart's content, before ordering a pint ($5 I think). All Flat 12 beer, but something for everyone (blonde, amber, pale ale variations, IPA, porter, rye stout, more...).
Food comes fresh to order from Smoking Goose (meatery) across the street. Pricy, but well worth it. Get the Sasquatch and enjoy the best bar food that will ever pass your lips.
Nice atmosphere - all beer lovers here. Cycling-friendly, saw plenty of bikes safely stored on the patio. No problems with service. Well staffed, working hard and having fun.
Flat 12 is now sitting at the top of my list for places an out-of-towner should vist. And don't wait forever like I did if you're from Indy - check it out now!

I've been coming to Flat 12 since they've opened and man has this place gotten great. You walk in the front and that's the small growler fill room, go right an there's the tasting room. The tasting room is great, it's medium sized with a projection screen for whatever game is on, music playing, a cooler you can keep your growlers in till you're ready to leave, and some lounge chairs made of shopping carts. In nicer weather head outside to their newer beergarden, complete with fire pit, benches, corn hole, outside speakers and a nice patio. This place is a must visit on the Indy beer scene. And the people here are really nice too.
