Appearance : Pours ruby red tinge of amber in color. Little to no head. Very adequate amount of bubbles.

Smell : Very stout like. Some caramel, a bit burnt charcoal and a little toffee. If you were to close your eyes and not see the beer, you would assume it to be a stout. Don't know if it is good or bad. To me, it is a mix of good and bad. sometimes i like it and sometimes not so much.

Taste : Malt, caramel and then at last you get what you would expect from hop stars at flat 12 a good deal of hops. The taste is very well balanced and you do not feel it till the last bit enters your mouth.

Mouth feel: Medium bodied and with very less carbonation, which is good.

Overall a mild toffee ruby IPA.

Good brew for experimentation and for winters.

12 ounce bottle. Served in a pint glass, the beer pours a mostly clear reddish/amber color with about an inch frothy tan head. Head retention and lacing are both pretty good. The brew smells like toasted and bready malt, caramel, nuts, and some herbal/spicy hops. Taste is mostly like the aroma, but with the addition of some citrusy hops and dark bread flavors. There's also a good amount of hoppy bitterness in this brew. Mouthfeel/body is light/medium, it's smooth and has low/moderate carbonation. Also easy to drink. It's one of the better amber ales I've had recently. I wouldn't mind trying this one again in the future. $2.49 a single.

Something with the pours of these Flat 12 bottles,just gushers.Pours a hazed medium amber with the large gushing slight off white head,a smack of citric hops is very nice with some brown sugar and caramel notes underneath.Love the flavors going on here a big dose citric and herbal hops over top of caramel and toffee maltiness,I even dectect a little nuttiness.Well the pours and feel of their bottled beers leave a little to be desired the flavors of this amber is top notch,the hop and malt profile is top notch.

"Well thank you Amber, it's a pleasure to meet you. My name is Kevin. May I say, you taste marvelous tonight!"

Upon her pour, Amber gets deeper and deeper as I dip into her bottle. But her anti-feminine darkness is deep with ruby-amber at first but gets darker as the last of the bottle decants and brings with it a verbose sediment character. Her rocky head structure is sand-stained in its slight tan hue. But strong retention and clumped lace seems more of Belgian-esque territories than it does American Ambers.

Heavily toasted, the grain character of Amber shines with a "sun kissed" character of medium toast, pumpernickle and burnt sugars. Dryly scented, hop components soon abound- Grapefruit peels and pine needles round out the scent in a balance that favors the hops ever so slightly.

Its light and toasty taste is grainy, sweet, and caramelized as the dry graham cracker early taste morphs into dry molasses, buckwheat, and medium toasted bread. A high grain taste favors wood spice, broad bitterness, and citrusy influence from American hops. Bitter to finish, the ale is crisp and quick with its aftertaste, with a late peppery bite.

Light bodied and somewhat grainy in feel- the beer is airy and spicy in texture before diving into quick toasty mouthfeel that picks at the tongue before fading into peppery bite and mild hop and grain astringency.

Amber is an inquisitive bitch as she puts on the appearance of femininity and grace, but then probes at you with a spicy and dry prickle that nags at the mouth with an unforgiving brashness. I lover her and hate her in the same breath.

Pours dark, cloudy amber red in color. Thick frothy head. Looks pretty sturdy for an amber ale. Smells sweet and malty, dark cherry, dried fruits, toasted wheat bread. The taste mirrors the scent except that it finishes with a great hop bite. Really nice blend of malt, grain and hops. Really well balanced and excellent flavor. Mouthfeel is between light and medium bodied, moderate carbonation, and a thin, soft finish. Overall a really great tasting amber ale, very drinkable and fulfills the need for hoppy bitterness too.

Pours a slightly sudsy head. Citrus hop aroma blends with sweet malt to become reminiscent of soap. Stunning ruby red. Starts with an intense hop bitterness which becomes grapefruit, then pine. A flash of sweet malt. Finish is mostly lingering hop.

This is a bit too bitter for my tastes, but the malt is surprisingly robust through such an intense bitterness. Not too bad. I think if they used a more aromatic, delicious hop over this intensely pine/bitter one, I'd dig it a lot more.

A- This beer pours full glass of light tan head that last a good bit and settles into a clear amber brown body with a strong carbonation.

S- The lightly toasted dry biscuit malt flavor has just a hint of spice to it in the finish.

T- The biscuit malt has a nice lightly toasted quality to it but it stays dry with a cinnamon quality to the dry green hops in the finish. The hops turn a bit more like green wood as the beer opens up.

M- The medium mouthfeel has a gentle fizz texture and no alcohol heat noticed.

O- This is a nice full malt flavor that is a bit 1-dimentional but the hops support it nicely. The carbonation is way too big but there was no sign of infection.

A-When opened it was a gusher. Translucent deep amber one finger off white head.

S-Caramel and toffee, some earthy malts. Not much of a hop presence.

T-Good deal of malt, caramel and toffee dominate, tad bit of earthy notes with slight bitterness.

M-Light to medium bodied with nice carbonation.

O-A decent Amber, the style is relatively boring and this a slightly above average version of the style.
