Lightly hazed toasted gold with a tight bone-colored froth that fades with some haste, but laces well.
Sourdough and caramel nougat aroma backed with lime leaves, lilacs, ferns, and whisper of pineapple.
It enters the mouth with a blanket of breadiness, then gathers a bit toastier. It sweetens considerable midway with caramel, pears, and fleshy melons. Hops bring a congruent tart-bitter, lime-herb-and-evergreen medley, with late nods towards mint and fresh flowers.
Medium-light bodied with a low yet steady carbonation.
My sole gripe is that there's not a whole lotta "India" in this Pale Ale. As a Pale, it's got a good deal of charm packed within its refreshing and drinkable structure (if considered as such, I'd add .5 to my overall score). I like it and will return here, but it just lacks the oomph to carry it over the IPA threshold.

Thoroughly average IPA. Fine, but not remarkable by any measure. Very little hop characteristic on the nose; appearance is a nice golden, non-cloudy. Taste is hop forward, but I would guess no more than mid-40s on IBUs. Overall, fine at the low-mid price point, but nothing special.

Finally a drinkable IPA that doesn't overwhelm you with bitterness, hops and AC. This is a well rounded IPA and is bound to be a big hit in the Chicago Market. Long weekend, a name that everyone can relate as well as the beer. Looking forward to having many long weekends this summer.

Served in a Lagunitas mason jar.
I'm starting to lose my surprised feeling concerning the random popping-up of random breweries to our area here. Never heard of Big Bay, but I've got their three flagships here, starting with the IPA. It pours a clear gold-brass topped by a finger of off-white foam. The nose comprises grapefruit zest, light lemon rind, sweet caramel, and a vague sense of orange juice. The taste holds notes of grapefruit rind, light orange zest, pine sap, mild caramel, light toffee, and a splash of earthy greens. The body is a light medium, with a light moderate carbonation and a drying finish. Overall, not a bad IPA, really, just not one to write home about. For once, a random IPA showing up isn't a sad little experience for my tongue. I'd drink it again...

12 oz bottle poured into a Big Bay stange.
No date or info.
A - Absolutely superb in appearance, Long Weekend IPA is a vibrant golden honey color tarnished by an ever-so-slight haze. The never-ending head of dense off-white foam shrouds the tall glass in sheets of lace.
S - Long Weekend's smooth, more subtle aroma is representative of the English style, furthered by a splash of citrus and earthy tones of the hops. Grainy biscuit malt and just a touch of pale follows up this floral and slightly herbal aroma nicely.
T - A touch of lemon citrus greets the palate while earthy grass clippings notes and an herbal blend poke through the caramel notes of sweetness draped over the biscuit malt finish.
M - Mild bitterness finishes out this drinkable and medium-light bodied IPA. Smooth and soft is the name of the game for Long Weekend, a perfect combination for a sessionable IPA.
O - Drinkable through a long weekend, Big Bay's IPA showcases English hops through subtlety and smoothness with just a touch of bitterness on the finish for a thirst-quenching and quaffable brew.

Poured into a Pint Glass
Appearance - Hazy Orange Color. Head is around 2 fingers and width and leaves behind lots of lacing on the sides
Smell - Piney Hops, Yeasts, and Malts. Smells is nice and not too strong.
Taste - Piney Hops, Citrus Honey, Yeasts and Malts, with a dry resin aftertaste. Flavor is very light, but not in a watered down sort of sense; Just...light.
Mouthfeel - Light bodied and the carbonation is also fairly light. It's easy to drink and a bit crispy.
Overall - This is what I would like to call a "IPA Yard Beer", it's easy going on flavor and you can have it on pretty much any occasion. However, if you're looking for a robust tasting IPA, then you should probably look elsewhere.

12 oz. bottle tried 29 Oct 2011. Yet another bottle from the ever generous R&S, thank you! Served in the 0.4 L Herren Pils snifter.
Small off white head. Medium carbonation. Clear orange copper in color. Light aroma, sweetly malty, touch syrupy. Relatively bitter, some nuttiness. Light maltiness. Medium body, moderate ethanol. Finishes just a touch astringent/bitter.
A says kind of one note and lightly hopped for an IPA.
