had this bier from a 1/2 litre bottle.

A: pours a nice hazy, gold color with a decent head that dissipates fairly quickly. Minimal lacing. A good looking bier.
S: Nothing like the last reviewer detected--maybe his bier was very old. I found a mild lemon, general citrus aroma that was unassuming and not a bother when trying to drink it.
T: A crisp lager taste that follows the aroma pretty well. Nothing spectacular here but nothing bad iether.
M: Nothing a problem with the mouthfeel, just not too exciting.
D: A good bier to drink many of; alcohol content is at a good level to where that is possible.

Overall, I would recommend this bier. It is a decent bier, but not in the top tier. Prosit.

A - Poured out a pale, golden yellow color with a one-finger, white head of bubbly foam. It left sudsy trails of lace on the glass.

S - It smelled of floral notes with grains and caramel.

T - It tasted of toffee and caramel with a light banana-like flavor. It had a very subtle hop bitterness.

M - It was crisp, sharp and smooth. A light to medium bodied lager with a dry finish.

O - This is a pretty tasty German Helles. Usually can't go wrong here.

Glad to see this making to my area. I'm always a helles fan, and this is a good one that really does remind me a lot of the fresh ones in and around Munich.
Pours a rich gold color with just the right amount of foam for a bottled lager. It's actually a few shades darker than most. It's still gold (not amber), but it's a deeper gold.
The flavor profile/nose is straight ahead bready pale malts. No playing around with hop character or balance at all here. While most helles beers are malt-focused, this one is even more so. It reminds me a little of the slightly stronger Spezial hell beers, although it lacks that slight heat or booziness that accompany some of those. Hops are there in the finish, but are only for a final bittering element. Even with the malt focus, it stays light and fresh tasting without being a bore.
Good stuff, and as long as I keep getting it fresh - I'll happily get more.
Like pretty much all examples of the style, this isn't going to make you rethink what beer can be - but it's delicious and drinkable any time.

Poured from 500mL bottle into a pint glass.

Appearance: yellowish-golden hue with a clear body and a nice effervescence. Head is one finger of frothy white foam.

Smell: lightly malty aroma with a tiny hint of grain and some nice fruity overtones. I rather like it.

Taste: much like the aroma, a light malt with a little bit of grain and some sweet fruitiness. Quite good.

Mouthfeel: medium-light body with a high level of carbonation and a big creaminess. Great!

Overall: this is a highly tasty and drinkable Munich lager. I would gladly quaff liters of this stuff if given the opportunity.

500ml bottle. No freshness date, which must only be for exported beers because in Germany they all have dates.

It pours a somewhat mundane gold with a lousy head. This may be a bit oxidized unfortunately. We will see.

It also smells old. Old hops, old malt. Just stale.

The flavor is also stale, but drinkable. Any hopes of noble hop flavors and aroma has fallen by the wayside.

It is a good beer at heart but this just isn't fresh.

Presentation: It was poured from a brown 1pt. 0.9oz bottle into a into a mug. The label has no freshness date or abv.

Appearance: It has a bright, deep golden color with great clarity and nice active carbonation that helps support the head. Its head builds up tall, light and fluffy from an aggressive pour. This quickly settles to a thin covering that holds on well. Lacing is spotty and slick.

Smell: The nose has a light pale maltiness with a touch of raw grain and a light bready sweetness. This is balanced by a nice crisp floral/spicy hop character.

Taste/Palate: It starts with a good pale malt base that also brings some mild bready and caramel sweetness. This is backed up with firm floral/earthy/spicy character that balances the malt. The palate is medium bodied, crisp and well carbonated.

Notes: This is a great all-around drinking beer. It’s nicely balanced and wonderfully drinkable.

A: The beer is crystal clear straw yellow in color and poured with a thin white head that quickly dissipated. A moderate amount of carbonation is visible from the rising bubbles.
S: There are light to moderate aromas of grainy malts and floral hops in the nose.
T: The overall taste is very balanced; the malty sweetness and flavors of grainy malts are held in check by a very slight amount of bitterness from the hops.
M: It feels light-bodied, clean and extremely smooth on the palate with a light amount of carbonation.
D: This beer goes down very easily; I could easily drink a few of these in a single sitting whether they came in half or full liter mugs. It's very sessionable.

A: Light, golden orange with a fluffy, quickly dissipating head.

S: Wow, strong funny german malt smell. Very sweet.

T: Interesting, this is that Budels Honey beer done right. Still just a hair too sweet perhaps, but otherwise very nice. Honey first, smooth and tasty. It's strange because I don't really perceive the malt or hops very much. Mostly honey, which isn't an ingredient.

M: Exceptionally soft with a sparkly edge.

D: Too sweet to say that I'd drink this often. But for it's style, it's great.

Chilled bottle into a glass. Purchased from the monastery in Ettal.

A: Pours a golden straw color, transparent in the glass with active effervescence up the center. The off-white head is energetic and frothy, remaining at least half-a-finger thick through the duration of the drink, and deposition splotches of lacing down the sides.

S: Noble hops, giving it a grassy aroma, and a lesser presence of light malt.

T: Surprisingly tasty for a 5.2% brew. A good balance of flavorful hops, grassy and leafy, with a solid malt backbone.

M: Light-bodied, high carbonation. Pretty pleasant on the palate.

D: Quite drinkable. We had several helles lagers in Munich, and this compared favorably.

Pours from a 16.9oz bottle into a pint glass. Golden in color with a small white head. Aroma is quite bready and malty with caramel and toast as well. Significant fruitiness makes this a real pleaser on the nose. More breadiness in the flavor. Really quite biscuity and bready, nearly amber ale like. Body that seems to be a bit sticky and sweet. Not a bad beer by any means. Perhaps a bit thin. Finishes pretty clean. Still very drinkable.

500 mL bottle,

A: Pours yellow, with a full white head, good lacing, nice half-liter of German lager.

S: Bready malt, some fruit and honey.

T: On the sweet side for the style, honey, rose petals, with a nice noble hop balance. Relatively light in flavour, though interesting.

M: Firm, light body, holds up as a beer, moderate carbonation, refreshing.

D: Not a bad drinkability, though in the end I wanted a little more out of the flavour. With this going for almost twice the price of the fantastic Paulaner Helles, I think I'll have to pass on this one next time.

D: Not very drinkable. Doesn't go down easy because of taste.

The aroma is awful. It smells like corn, cocktail sauce, hay, and malt. The appearance is golden with a small head. The flavor is actually not as bad as the aroma. It does have corn but paper and hops are all you taste. The palate is really thin but the carbonation saves it from being watery. Overall this is a beer that borders on gross with the aroma but is OK to drink if you hold your nose.

Pours a clear golden yellow pilsner color with a frothy foamy white head that lingers throughout. Crisp, yeasty aroma with very subtle hop notes. Crisp and carbonated up front followed by smooth watered down center and a dry hop finish. Easy to drink but not very flavorful.

A 500 mL bottle from State Line.

A: The lagerbier is the yellow color of semi-dehydrated urine with a strong clarity. Less than a finger of head resulted from each pour.

S: The aroma is that of baked multi-grain bread, full of pale malts.

T: Very bready, the lager is full of pale biscuity malts that take on a green apple flavor, concentrated at times. A touch of earthy hops pushes the beer close to pilsener territory before pulling back. The finish is soft malts, nearly liquid bread.

M: The mouthfeel is restrained, strong on the malts with enough hops to keep things balanced.

D: Very drinkable with an alcohol level that is spot-on for a quaffable pale lager.

500ml brown bottle from The Lighthouse in Manchester. Pours a very very very light straw yellow with virtually no head. Smells husky and slightly smokey. Tastes sweet, with biscuity malts playing a lead with just the slightest hint of continental hops... Not getting a lot from this one. Extremely drinkable and absolutely nothing offensive about it. A good drinker for a hot day for sure, and I may pick it up again in the coming months for that purpose.

This brew pours quite nicely and makes about two fingers thick of white head. The body is ultra clear and gold in color

This doesn't smell so nice, though. It smells a little oxidized and metallic.

The taste is a little weak, and nothing to write home to momma about. However, it's crisp and very clean.

This is a good thirst quencher, and not complex at all. Edel-Hell makes for a good high end BBQ brew.

Capped Pint .09 bottle

What originally turned me on to the Ettaler line was its claim of being Monastic Beer from Germany, a must try in my book based on that alone!

A- Straw Gold with a decent white head

S- Nice balance right off the nose, classic German Helles

T- Super smooth, some nice toasty wood, inviting malts and a slight hop bite towards the end

M- Theres nothing to it, i finished off my bottle (poured into a jumbo Spaten pint glass) in about 8 minutes.

Lager Fans...dig in!

16.9 oz bottle picked up at the Coop over the weekend for $2.50 .. poured into my small Schneider Weisse glass... my bottle says 5.2%

1" head drops leaving no lacing... very clear.. pale gold.

Aroma is very clean and grainy .. little room for anything else.

Flavor is a palate postcard of what a good helles is... pale malts ... lite malt sweetness and just enough body to balance the touches of hoppy bitterness... very clean.. an exercise on restraint from a very skilled brewer... Slight spicy hop flavor raises its head as it warms.. but still plays second fiddle to the up front malts.

This is the first time I've ever seen this beer in Boise.. I am glad that I was able to try it... fantastic and puts most other helles I've had to shame... No doubt I could drink this all day and never get bored. I can see myself in Germany enjoying mug after mug after mug ... but I can also see myself hammered and stumbling/getting lost on the way back to the hotel... because this is an amazingly drinkable beer.
