A- Pours black with a one finger dark brown head. Alcohol legs and great lacing remain on the sides of glass. Beautiful imperial stout.

S- Licorice, chocolate syrup, roast, fruity esters. sugar.

T- Licorice, chocolate syrup, brownies, burnt charred flavor, cherry, coffee, and alcohol. The only thing to improve is the burnt, charred character and the slight heat. A balance between sweet and intensely roasted.

M- Massive mouthfeel. Heavy full body that feels like liquid chocolate. Very smooth.

O- What a complex, beast of a beer. This could even sit in the cellar to take the slight edge off the heat and roast. Impressive stuff.

Edit: After aging this beer for 4 months, I had another bottle. It did not age well in those 4 months. I think this beer was best fresh. I did not end up finishing the beer. I've never seen a beer make such a change in such a short amount of time.

The pour is black in color with a small tan head. Not a big fan on the nose. heavy on char, smoke, and roasted malt. A bit of alcohol, too. Some burnt sugar and mild dark chocolate. The flavor is also quite smokey and charred, maybe some ash. Burnt sugar, licorice, and molasses give a bit of sweetness. Lots of coffee and a bit of dark chocolate.

Wow....Out of the bottle at one of Americas Great pubs the Avenue Pub In NOLA

Upon drinking this I believed I had reached Nirvania....went to the top of my personal list

But I must confess I love big over the top stouts.

You can smell the chocolate, molasses and coffee and then you can taste them...

The beer is smooth and mouthful...and if I could I would start every day with it instead of coffee
I knew nothing about it until I tasted two weeks ago.

Served from bottle into a Mikkeller oversized wine glass (semi-proper!). Poured pitch black with a half finger brown head that subsided to a minimal amount slowly. Maintained phenomenal lacing throughout the glass. The aroma was comprised of sweet malt, roasted malt, dark chocolate, milk chocolate, dark fruit, vanilla, and sweet alcohol. The flavor was of sweet malt, roasted malt, dark chocolate, vanilla, dark fruit, milk chocolate, and alcohol. It had a heavy feel on the palate with medium carbonation. Overall this was a fairly great brew. It has to be said that the appearance of this brew is something to behold as it is everything you would want from a beer from this style. The aroma follows suit closely as well with a nice touch of balance with alcohol, roastiness, and sweetness going on. The flavor on the other hand was dominated by roastiness and alcohol in my opinion. It is definitely a case of too much in such a short period of time. I can see why this one has a cult following currently as it is quite good in all aspects. Definitely worth your time trying and/or seeking out if you have the opportunity.

Black with a dark brown milky head and lots of sticky lacing. Aroma is big bitter hops and dark chocolate. It's intense, but a very standard "RIS" aroma -- nothing too interesting here.

The taste blows it up though. The bitter hops show up here, mixed with bitter dark chocolate, lots of caramel and a touch of roastiness and licorice. There's lots of sweetness here, but it's bitch-slapped into place by a healthy dose of hops. I'm not getting the fruit that others are reporting. The roasty bitterness doesn't linger on the palate, which I appreciate.

The mouthfeel on this is sublime. Incredibly thick and creamy, with an appropriately subdued carbonation. Honestly, there's only a handful of beers in the world with a better mouthfeel than this. Unbelieveable.

All in all, this is one stellar stout. I also tend to think it would be more appropriately classified as a Russian Imperial Stout, as opposed to American Double.

I'm personally not a huge fan of hops in my stout, so I plan to pick a couple more up and lay them down in my cellar for a couple years. Aging beers tends to be a bit overrated, but I really think this is one that will grow to suit my tastes even more after a couple years.

11.2oz bottle into a snifter. I don't want to admit how much I spent on this beer.

A: Absolutely pitch black, opaque even on the pour with a finger of dark brown head. Great retention - this is a very nice looking beer.

S: Roasted malts and licorice up front with a bit of dark fruit in the background.

T: Strong burnt malts dominate the flavor with hints of dark chocolate, licorice, and raisins. Bitter hops balance the intense sweetness from the beer.

M: Very thick mouthfeel with great carbonation.

O: This is a very intense beer. The burnt malt flavor is extremely strong with great flavors of chocolate, licorice, and dark fruits in the background. A bit intense, but good.

Black as midnight pour, thick tan head, nose and flavor of bitter chocolate, coffee, smoked meat, cedar shavings, roast, graham cracker, clove, nutmeg, sandalwood, mandarin orange, tangerine, strawberry, raspberry, apricot, plum, tobacco, leather, raisin, fig, date, and prune. Insanely complex with an absolute motor oil consistency. Even bigger than Dark Lord, and far more balanced and delicious with an eternal syrupy, bittersweet finish. OMG! My new favorite RIS, hands down.

A: Poured from a bottle to a pint glass. Had a jet black color and a thick, impenetrable consistency. There was a massive, tan-colored, long-lasting head. Excellent lacing. Basically, this is how a stout should look.

S: A strong aroma of coffee, chocolate, and dark fruit.

T: Tasted of espresso, dark chocolate, a hint of dark fruit (plums, maybe?), malt, and light hops in the finish. A big, powerful, complex, enjoyable flavor.

M: A good amount of carbonation with a slick finish. Full-bodied.

O: This is an incredibly well made, drinkable beer. Not a session beer for sure, but a fantastic piece of brewing.

A- Black as night, and it pours extremely thick-Iike motor oil. Quickly disappaiting dark tan head. Moderate lacing in the glass.

S- Roasted malts present themselves as scorched nuts and coffee grounds.

T- Intense, bitter chocolate and espresso bean. Some dark fruit emerges on the mid palate. Very difficult to capture everything going on here.

M- Like drinking a bitter milkshake. Highly viscous and an almost tannic sensation appears after swallowing.

O- Intense Imperial Stout. Very rich and thick and it easily serves as dessert or a nightcap. Another unique offering from Evil Twin.

Served from bottle into tulip

A - Tar black with no carbonation or lacing.

S - Burnt cedar, camp fire, caramel and toffee.

T - Burnt marshmallow. Charred wood. Rough and hard to drink, split a twelve ounce bottle between a buddy and it was still hard to get through.

M - Very thick, the subtle carbonation helps get through the oily smoky finish.

O - After finishing barely six ounces, I felt as if I had been inhaling camp fire fumes for hours. I couldn't get into this one. I was much more impressed with Auld Yin than this offering by far.

A - Extremely dense, dark black, with thick chocolatey-brown head that sinks extremely slowly and leaves ample lacing. It's a beautiful stout.

S - Sweet chocolate, prunes, and figs, with a fair amount of roasty, slightly smoky malt that balances the sweetness. There's also a fair amount of booze.

T - A nice combination of semisweet chocolate, a touch of smoky burnt sugar, and plenty of dark fruits. There's a fair amount of complexity, but all the flavors balance each other well.

M - Kinda like a chocolate milkshake -- quite thick and very smooth, with minimal carbonation and almost no hint of alcohol.

Overall, this is definitely quite good, but it doesn't quite breach the barrier of "great".

Shared by Andy. Thanks!

A - pitch black, 1/4 head after pour with mocha head that leave minimal lacing

S - caramel sweetness and light booze aromas

T - dense, thick and creamy. Roasted malts and burnt sugar dominate and coat the tongue till no end. 12% abv is evident and warming. Dates and molasses fill the mid-palate and brown sugar finishes nicely.

M - smooth with low carbonation. Sticky and lingering.

O - Tasty stout that reminds me of Hr. Frederikson but a little more viscous.

11.2oz bottle.

Pours pitch black with a small but thick mocha head that sticks to the sides of the glass on the way down.

Aroma is big on bakers chocolate, coffee and caramelized sugar. There is also a bit of dark fruit but the heavy roastiness of the black malts stand out above the sweetness.

Taste is like a big thick coffee, chocolate milkshake. Some sweetness, lots of roast, hints of espresso beans. Bitterness from the roast and semi-sweet chocolate linger in the finish.

Mouthfeel is absolutely decadent, like a milkshake. Thick, smooth with decent carbonation and heavily roasted.

This is an excellent imperial stout, one of the best I've have in a long time. There is a great balance of roast with chocolate and a seriously thick feel. Works on almost every level.

A - This is the darkest beer I have ever had. Pitch black, two fingers dark brown head, nice spotty lacing.

S - Smoked malts, rich chocolate, some hops come through, alcohol fumes, brown sugar, tobacco, vanilla cream, hint of plum.

T - Burnt sugars, coffee grounds, black malts, bitter hoppiness, dark chocolate, charcoal, hint of anise as it warms.

M - Full bodied, low carbonation, syrupy/smooth.

O - The more dark beers I try from Evil Twin the more I like them, Keep it up, Jeppe!

A - Pitch black with a small to medium sized, tight, smooth, frothy, dark cafe colored head. Nice retention leaving a nice ring of lace.

S - Bold flavors with bittersweet chocolate being the strongest. A bit of milk chocolate and cream accompany that. Touches of mocha and sweet brown sugar.

T - Like the nose, it is bold and flavorful. Lots of bittersweet and milk chocolate. Some fudge and mocha coffee. A bit of dark roasted coffee. Touches of dark fruit and a whisper of anise.

M - Full body with low to moderate carbonation. Thick, creamy, and chewy. Coats the mouth beautifully.

D - Wonderful sipping beer. Bold and flavorful with a beautiful body that stands up to the flavors. The glass emptied faster than I expected from sipping it. Alcohol is non-existent.

Notes: Another great stout from Evil Twin. Bold and flavorful. Loads of chocolate along with ome other nice flavors. The body is gorgeous on this and leads to it being a wonderful sipper.

Bottle at DBGB Kitchen & Bar, New York, NY

A: The beer is jet black in color and poured with just a thin ring of mocha-colored bubbles around the edge of the glass.
S: There are aromas of bittersweet chocolate and dark fruits in the nose along with some hints of brown sugar.
T: Like the smell, the taste is rather complex with flavors of bittersweet chocolate, brown sugar and roasted malts and has a light amount of bitterness. Notes of dark fruits are most evident towards the finish.
M: It feels full-bodied and rather smooth on the palate with a low to moderate amount of carbonation. Warming from the alcohol is apparent in the finish.
O: Despite its strength, this beer lacks any noticeable malty sweetness and retains a nice amount of bitterness and roasted flavors, which help to keep it drinkable.

Poured from a 11.2oz bottle into a duvel glass.

A: pours a viscous pitch black with about half a fingers worth mocha colored head, that leavs little to no lacing...

S: roasty caramel, vanilla creams and dark chocolate. Notes of dark coffee enter as the beer warms.... And I swear I'm getting a roasty coconut note in there as well. Or maybe it's just a nuttiness from the coffee notes, smells delicious. Alcohol becomes more apparent and adds a nice warmth.

T: much like the nose, dark chocolate and cream, dark roasty coffe notes, A bit sweet but rounded out by bitterness at the same time... Like burnt coffe rine, alcohol... A deffinate flavor bomb, earthy/piney very bitter hops in the background taming a deep malt sweetness.

M: creamy and viscous with a dry/resinous finish and bit of a lingering bitter aftertaste, pretty heavy with low carbonation,

O: a very good beer, that I could see... With a little bit of age developing into an exceptionally delicious brew.

Even More Jesus, 12-oz (or so) bottle bought at Whole Foods Tribeca for $10.99.

JESUS!

Appearance: Poured into my Lost Abbey snifter/chalice, Jesus comes looking dark and juicy and black. Barely any head or lacing, still and deadly! Reminds me of Fourth Dementia, that kind of old ale-huge brew...

Smell: Smoke, sugar, molasses. Blood sausage, currant. Booze and plenty of hefty sweetness.

Taste: More smoke, dairy and heavy cream. Strawberries with balsamic vinegar. Coffee and hops. Sheep droppings. Roastiness and big things.

Mouthfeel: Low carb, medium body, full flavor. It suits the style. Strong but not boozy, well balanced despite the volume. Rich, delicious. Oh, do I dig it!

Overall: This is a beautiful beer. Instantly m favorite Evil Twin and almost worth the price. Almost. I really enjoyed it and would consider buying it again. Drinkable, considering the huge ABV, and so delicious!

Bottle shared by blatantdream.

Pours black as night with dark tan head. Leaves grainy lace on my glass not seen since my last bottle of Marshal Zhukov.

Aroma has everything you want from an imperial stout: roasted malts, caramel, plenty of booze,

Deep, dark, and roasty. Charcoal and mild tobacco towards the end. Strong alcoholic warmth and booze character that lingers after swallowing. Massive, viscous body that reminds me of Zhukov.

My usual opinion on Mikkeller / Evil Twin beers is that they're overpriced & underwhelming, but this pretty good. Would benefit greatly from a few years of age.
