Notes:
The Roman Empire had a certain "je ne sais quoi" - festive food culture, extravagant architecture, and spectacular live entertainment. Some might argue the Emperors were brutal, mad, and hungry for power, and the people vain when taking baths and working out all day. Listen - that's still all part of the secret Imperial ingredient - keep it cool, clean, confident, arrogant, and flamboyant. Forza Imperiale.

Bottle into tasting snifter at Darkness Day. Cannot remember who shared this, but thanks!
A- Pours a pitch black with a thin mocha head that leaves minimal lacing.
S- Cookie like sweetness upfront with vanilla, brown sugar, dark chocolate followed by coffee beans, caramel and roasted malt.
T- Caramel and roasted malt upfront followed by some bitter coffee grounds, vanilla and some dark chocolate. The coffee actually hurts the taste of this beer as it reminds of me coffee beans that were grounded too fine.
M- Medium carbonation and body with a slightly dry finish. ABV is hidden well.
O- While the aroma was promising, the bitter coffee taste really hurt this beer IMO. Glad I tried this as I've been hearing good things, but I wouldn't go out of my way to find another bottle.

Evil Twin beers are always expensive....so let's see how good this is.
This one pours out an extremely dark, pitch black with about 2 fingers of a deep roasted, tan head.
The aroma is pretty intense. There is a ton of dark chocolate notes along with fresh roasted coffee. There are big roasted notes with some caramel and toffee sweetness and a hint of vanilla in there too.
The flavor is bittersweet dark chocolate upfront with a good amount of a sweet milk chocolate. There is a huge wave of fresh coffee in there too and you can almost taste the coffee beans. The roasted notes are all throughout the beer, but especially linger on the finish. To balance out all the bitterness there are some toffee and caramel notes too.
The body is pretty light for the style, only medium and the mouthfeel is creamy. The ABV isn't detected on the nose or aroma, but damn there is some heat going down.
This is fantastic stuff. It marriages bitter and sweet so that neither dominate and make this hard to drink and it goes down super smooth for such a high ABV. Worth trying for sure!
