Pours a pitch black into a 9oz snifter glass. On tap at my local beer shop at their bar. This has a smell of coffee and chocolate and a tinge of alcohol in the background. It's a little bit more carbonation than I'd like with such a dense stout but it doesn't detract from this one too much. Chocolate flavor lingers around for a while and while im a fan of that flavor it also is just a touch more than I expected. All in all this beer really grew on me and I might get tho one again if they run out of Emelisse RIS barrel aged JD

A: Pours an opaque yet clear jet black in color with light amounts of visible carbonation and some dark cola brown highlights. The beer has a four finger tall very dark mocha head that slowly reduces to quarter finger tall head across the entire surface of the beer evenly. Light amounts of lacing are observed.

S: Light to moderate aromas of dark roasted and chocolate malts.

T: Upfront there is a moderate to strong flavor of dark roasted malts with some lighter notes of smoked malts. Light hints of dark chocolate as well. Light amounts of bitterness which fades rather quickly.

M: Medium bodied with moderate amounts of carbonation. Smooth.

O: The alcohol is this beer is very well hidden (even with the extra age on it). I had this beer fresh and aged, I happen to prefer it better with a little bit of age on it. Definitely a big beer and a sipping beer but one I will have again if I come across it. Quite enjoyable.

Appearance: Big bubbly head. Finger worth of head. Dark amber head color. Not an overbearing thickness was noticed on the pour.

Smell: Thick chewy malt. Dark hops, black licorice, leafy greens, molasses, dark chocolate, and sweet maple syrup. Interesting how much brightness comes from the dark aromas in this brew.

Taste: The bubbly carbonation is huge on the front of this beer. A medium bodied malt presence carries this beer. A slightly metalic sweetness follows through in the aftertaste. Sticky toffee and coffee presences hang on the palette. Carbonation is too heavy, but does settle in the body well.

Mouthfeel: The carbonation really creates a soft bubbly feeling. Some lingering alcohol sting as well.

Overall: A unique feeling imperial stout. Definitely has a European feeling versus a traditional American imperial stout. Not something I would buy again at $9 a bottle but gives you perspective on the diversity of the style.

Dark roasted beer with far too little character or focus. I suppose the name says it all, a new york city hotel room is close to so much amazing stuff but it is hell to be there. It is small, cramped, and over priced as hell. This beer is the same. Sweet roasted and boring as hell. At 10% AND AT 10 bucks a bottle any sane person would want more.

First off - pretty stupid name for a beer.

any rate,

A - Very dark brown, pinky width of medium/light mocha head - dissipates quickly, leaving just a small amount around the rim of glass. not opaque what so ever.

S - Roasted coffee, dark chocolate, faints hops and very faint spice.

T - initial: Roasted coffee hits immediately- I don't think i'd say harshly or overwhelmingly but is up front and center. Dark chocolate eeks itself in a bit. Finish is more roast, bitter hops, and a little bit of booze. 10 ABVs are hidden for the most part.

M - Creamy, a little thin, not velvet. The roast flavor will stay with you for a few minutes. Viscosity is medium.

O - It's good. I liked most everything but nothing really stood out. Coffee/Chocolate/roast tones are balanced. More roasty then other stouts ive had- you will taste it for a while. It is a bit dry and bitter tho. I do wish the nose was more. Not real complex either. But, I payed $9.99 for this. I will never be purchasing this again.

Watch out for the pour, it's like a volcano after just a few drops. A good ounce or so is no on the floor because I wasn't expecting it. The beer is very dark black, which I like, but the pour is all about the explosion of bubbles. The head is enormous. A bit too much, though it's an attractive brown color. For every one inch of dark liquid, you get three inches of brown head.

The smell is slightly subdued, but what's there is all of the roasted variety. Roasted malt dominates, with licorice and alcohol in supporting roles. Has a bit of an expresso/coffee/bittersweet chocolate thing going on.

Caramel malt is on display for the taste buds. Early on it tastes like a Coke, only not as sweet, with some hints of smoke. As it warms, coffee notes begin to emerge, as well as the bittersweet chocolate that showed up in the nose. Little evidence is shown that this beer is so strong.

It's got a very pleasant feel for something so strong. Initially sweetness is the dominant characteristic. But almost immediately, the carbonation cleans your tongue and puffs out your cheeks. Bitterness gains strength as the beer works its way back, with a lingering bitterness in the finish. Medium bodied because you've got a heavy beer that's full of carbonation, making a nice balance. Finishes dry with that lingering bitter.

Overall, I liked this beer a lot. It went down a bit too easy for something so strong. Very smooth, somewhat unexpectedly given the smell and the high ABV. Expensive, but worth it. Sad it's been retired...glad I've got a second bottle in the cellar.

Bottle poured in to snifter.

A - Poured black with a thin layer of espresso coloured head.

S - A big roast aroma is met with sweet molasses and chocolate and some noticeable alcohol.

T - A big roast profile up front that becomes overpowered by a big sweetness and some molasses, sweet milk chocolate and brown sugar. After a few sips the sweetness becomes somewhat cloying, making this beer difficult to drink.

M - Medium body at times, but somewhat light and watery at other times. Light carbonation.

O - This was one rough. Couldn't even get through a 12 oz bottle.

Caramel character is great. Toast is good. Roast starts to polarize taste. But scorched is plain offensive. This nonsensically named ale flirts with the line that separates scorched character from roasted character and is highly divisive in its taste.

The pour erupts from the tulip up on its initial pour. The billowing head easily topples the rim with hardly and notice of actual beer beneath. Although the bottle didn't spew, the beer overtakes the glass with ease. After what seems to be an eternity to this thirsty beer drinker, the beer finally settles into an unmistakable black beer with tan-ish spiderwebbing lace that sticks to both the glass and the surface of the beer. Its champagne-like carbonation and the way it explodes in the glass is fairly obnoxious.

Sharp aromas of burnt wood, ash, and spice strike the nose with brunt force. With the most slight of molasses malt aroma, coffee grounds, and cocoa, the malt influence is heavily roasty and is exacerbated by spicy peppercorn, burnt fruit, and alcohol.

Elevated roast flavors flirt with the taste of burnt carbon-rich ash from the very first sip and extends well into the finish- carrying with it very little supporting malt sweetness. Its dry, powdery taste exposes high yeast spices, tart vine-dried fruit, medicine, and grain tannin. An ill-conceived balance to promote roast flavors show flaws in the beer's recipe formulation and its acrid dry taste is problematic in brewer execution.

It's enormous carbonation engulfs the mouth, turns to ash, and dries the mouth unnecessarily. This happens on the early, middle, and late palate. Sharply astringent and acidic to palate sensations show a messy mouthfeel that may signal infection to come. Powdery dry and terribly ashy, the beer is problematic on all fronts of drinkability.

But even with all that, I finished the beer (albeit with slight pain) and find that there's some dry roast flavors to celebrate behind all that ash and pang.

Poured into a snifter glass. The beer pours black with a thick, creamy tan head that dissipates slowly. The head is rather large for a beer with 10% ABV. Some lacing is left on the side of the glass during consumption. There are aromas of dark roasted malt, prunes, molasses, coffee, booze, and some chocolate. The alcohol smell is definitely not hidden in the aroma. The flavors of the beer do follow the nose. The chocolate, prune, alcohol, and molasses flavors hit up front and the roastiness from the malt comes in the back. There's some hop bitterness on the back end as well. This is a thick, creamy, full-bodied stout with moderate carbonation. The alcohol brings a nice warming quality and the beer itself drinks very easy despite being so big. This is an excellent beer that hits the spot on a cold day.

A - Dark brown-black with a big finger of frothy chocolate colored head. Fades slowly.

T - Dark chocolate malts, molasses, black licorice, roasted coffee, a bit of dark fruit, vanilla, some earthy hops and a bit of bitterness, and a bit of booze.

D - Nice smooth imperial stout. Great mouthfeel and overall balance.

12 oz. bottle my brother gave me as a Law School graduation gift. What a great name for a beer. Hopefully the neer tastes as good as the name is. Poured into a snifter...

A - This beer pours a deep black color with a surprisingly large, 3 finger head that is a tan/khaki color. The head retains quite well and leaves some nice lacing as it recedes.

S - The aroma starts with some bitter chocolate and coffee notes followed by some super roasty malt aromas. There are some earthy hops present giving it a nice full quality. There also seems to be some smoke-like aromas there too.

T - Roasted, dark malts and bitter chocolate come out in the profile first. There is a bit of bitter coffee mixing in there are well. There are some flavors of caramel and dark fruits coming through as well. Earthy, piney hops come next giving a slightly fruity addition as well.

M - Medium to full bodied beer with moderate carbonation. More carbonation is present than I would've expected for a 10% ABV imperial stout. But at times it is quite smooth.

O - Not a bad beer, but not the best imperial stout I've ever come across. It was nice to try something new from this brewery and I look forward to trying the barrel aged version sometime soon.

A - Pitch black, tons of carbonation bubbles pushing up an ever-growing 4 finger khaki head, which I had to lick multiple times so it wouldn't overflow (tastes pretty good!), light lacing.

S - Smoked malts, milk chocolate, espresso beans, brown sugar.

T - Smoked malts, dark chocolate, slight bitter/burnt finish. Gets sweeter as it warms.

M - Medium body, moderate-high carbonation.

O - Not his best, but tasty enough, still want to try Room 603.

330ml bottle poured into tulip 20/9/12

A I'm sure glad I didn't open this over my laptop because I'd be down a computer as this one barfed foam as soon as I popped the cap. Very dark liquid after the glass of foam settles down with just a thin cola edge when held to the light, zero lace and I mean zero, strange that that much foam leaves no evidence at all

S peat and coco with some cold coffee, faint booze and some sour fruit

T even darker roast with just a little licorice and the cold coffees replaced with espresso and charred wood, not as much sour fruit and fairly well hidden booze

M don't really get a chance to feel the weight because it instantly turns to foam, big foam, not much heat and a nice aftertaste of ultra dark malts but way to much carbonation

O I'm confused by this one as everything's telling me there's an infection setting in but it still somehow tastes pretty good? I'm not sure if this is what the brewer intended but flavor can go a long way

I have a feeling this will taste very different in a year, I can see this one going South in a funky way quite quickly. I'm going to go read some reviews to see if I'm the only one who thinks this way

Appearance – Pitch black with a dark chocolaty foamy head. The head slowly dissipates to a thin layer, with a nice lacing.

Smell – Chocolate, caramel, vanilla, a sweet liqueur, and a touch of coffee. I love the smell!

Taste – Not as sweet as it smells. Chocolate, coffee, and roasted malt.

Mouthfeel – Creamy and well carbonated. Alcohol is very well hidden. Slightly bitter aftertaste.

Drinkability – An excellent beer. Goes down easy, as the alcohol is so well hidden.
