Pours brown with good head/lacing.

Smell is massive, earthy instant coffee. Whiteboard marker, soil, some hop and sweetened milk. Jelly Belly jelly beans.

Taste is more green, not particularly high quality coffee. As it warms, the coffee seems to become a higher quality blend all round. Mouthfeel is a bit light and spritzy, with a nice wholesome coffee-like finish.

I was initially going to trash this beer, but it grew on me over the course of a bottle.

Loads and loads of coffee flavour here, and the brown ale base carries it well. Nonetheless remember this is more of a "coffee beer" than a beer in its own right. Similar to and on par with Frangelic Mountain Brown, but substantially drier.

A - Dark brown-black with a finger of frothy chocolate-khaki head. Fades fairly slowly.

S - Sweet caramel and toffee malts, roasted coffee, touch of chocolate and darker malts.

T - Sweet caramel and toffee malts, roasted coffee with some coffee bitterness, touch of darker caramel malts, and cocoa.

M - Medium bodied with moderate carbonation. Smooth with a sweet and roasted finish.

D - Nice coffee brown ale.

Deep red-tinged brown colour, fair glint of light through the body. Head is a little whispy on the side, but decent density and nice milky-brown colour. Lace is OK. Bit of a mixed bag, but good.

Lots of coffee on the nose. Dark, roasty with a touch of char, and plenty of peppery spice. Dry with a woody edge, touch of cayenne and a hit of rich chocolate. Nice edge to a pretty plain coffee aroma.

Coffee again on the palate. Roasty and slightly dusty, with a bit of sourness at the back where it's undercooked, but then the rich, dark chocolate notes come in midway to add flavour backbone as well as a sweetness to the finish. Maybe a touch too much; could use a bit more of that bitter, spicy coffee on there. It's detectable but quite subdued, and it finishes a little weak as a result.

Fluid; a little thin, though, on the mouthfeel. Kind of adds to the general meek feeling on the back.

Not a bad after-dinner drop, particularly if chocolate's your thing, but it reminds me why mocha isn't my thin. A little too sweet, and not enough coffee character.

A: Pours a clear dark amber in color with garnet red highlights and moderate amounts of visible carbonation. The beer has a finger tall fizzy beige head that slowly reduces to a mottled thin film covering the entire surface of the beer with a thicker ring at the edges of the glass. Significant amounts of lacing are observed.

S: Moderate to strong aromas of freshly brewed coffee with some lighter notes of dark malts and chocolate.

T: Upfront there are light flavors of roasted and dark malts with moderate flavors of freshly brewed coffee with some light notes of dark chocolate. Light amounts of bitterness that fades pretty quickly.

M: Medium bodied with slightly heavier than moderate amounts of carbonation. Smooth and slightly creamy.

O: Overall this is a very well balanced beer with nice coffee flavors and little bitterness. Pretty smooth and easy to drink - I found this one to be very enjoyable (though I am someone that loves the taste and smell of coffee...and have since my childhood).

A: The beer is clear but very dark reddish brown in color and has a light amount amount of visible carbonation. It poured with a quarter finger high beige head that died down a bit and consistently left a thin layer of bubbles covering the surface.
S: Light to moderate aromas of brown malts are present in the nose along with notes of whole roasted coffee beans.
T: The taste is similar to the smell except that the coffee flavors are stronger and more integrated with the malts. Only a light amount of bitterness is present.
M: It feels nearly medium-bodied on the palate and has a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: This beer won't blow you away but is a well crafted brown ale that is accentuated with a seemingly well balanced amount of coffee flavors. It is very drinkable.

Pours dark brown with a large, lasting head.
Nose shows heavy coffee and roasted malt. Little else, but it’s very enticing.
Dry flavours, lots of roast and fresh coffee. Falls a bit short.
Carbonation is too high.
A little light-on in the flavour department.

Picked this up at my favorite beer store in Belgium, Dranken Geers. Murky dark brown pour with a two finger beige head with good retention and great lacing. The nose is very odd up front with a wet coffee grind aroma. It eventually fades a bit and some subtle hints of mocha and coffee emerge. The taste is thankfully much better. It's a very different coffee flavor than I've ever had in a beer. Very intense and sweeter than most coffee brews along with hints of brown bread, mocha, ground nuts, and a bit of cinnamon toast on the finish. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with a subtle creaminess and a dry bitter finish. There's a lot of coffee beers out there, but this is unique and maybe not for everyone. To Øl advertises it as a substitute for morning coffee and they nailed that!

Pours a dark chestnut brown color with a 2.5 finger, frothy beige head that very slowly settles into a lasting cap/ring. The tulip is left coated with large streaks and chunks of soapy lacing.

Robust coffee bean aroma with sweet and roasted malts balancing each other out. Roasted espresso/coffee bean along with dark chocolate and lactic sugar. It's nice to come across a coffee beer that doesn't smell like a week old used coffee filter. Some caramel, toffee and lighter chocolate balancing out the roast.

Medium bodied with tight carbonation and a stronger roast presence than the aroma suggests. Lots of dry, roasted coffee bean flavor but it never becomes acrid or overbearing. Espresso like flavor with chocolate/mocha sweetness along with toast, toffee and oatmeal. Some lactic sugar sweetness but not as much as expected. Could use a bit more of that, in my opinion, to balance things out. Overall, this beer is decently balanced and easy to drink with nice coffee flavor but I didn't find anything that elevates it above an average coffee beer.

Split a 750 ml poured into a duvel glass.

A: pours a nice slightly hazelnutyy brown. With two fingers of puffy coffee colored head... Even after a gentle pour... That leavs a bit of lacing.

S: a bit of coffee and chocolate right up front... Not really getting much other then that... A good smelling beer, just wish the aroma was a bit more pronounced. Some toasty brown Malts start to appear as the brew warms some.

T: much like the nose at first I get a good does of coffee and chocolate.... Followed by some slightly toasty/Burnt nutty brown Malts.... Theres is an unexpected floss of hops on the finish here.... A tasty brew.

M: medium creamy body, with medium crisp carbonation that borderlines on being a touch to high and a slightly bitter hop finish.

O: this is a good beer, with a nice coffe mocha flavor and a bit of hops on the finish... A bit pricey, but worth giving a whirl.

A dark brown brew with hints of red, a tan high head, little lacing but good curtains.

Complex smell, cold old grounded coffee beans, ash tray, honey, chocolate and peas. First off-putting, then interesting ...

Brown bread is predominant, then coffee, old cold coffee, milk chocolate.

Medium carbonation, small bubbles, oily and sticky, a good body.

Very much coffee, actually a bit too much.

I've liked everything from To Ol so far so I figured what the hell. This beer pours a medium bodied hazelnut brown in color with a large, frothy three finger, tope colored head. The nose isn't as pungent as I expected. It has a moderate amount of coffee bean as well as a good amount of powdered cocoa and is a little chalky. The way that the coffee is presented is near identical to their Sleep Over DIPA. The flavors are dry and malty. Luckily the coffee is a little more prevalent than in the nose but it still isn't overpowering. It works with the sweet dark malts and cocoa pretty well. It would definitely score hire if the cocoa seemed more authentic instead of powdered. It drinks medium in body with moderate coffee bitterness. The 7% alcohol isn't present at all. Overall this is a nice beer but I don't know if it's worth it at $15 per bottle. This would be better suited at a lower price tag but it's a nice beer nonetheless.

A: Poured from a bottle to a pint glass. Had a dark brown color and a cloudy consistency. There was a two inch, rocky, fairly-lasting head. Good lacing.

S: Not an overpowering aroma, but there were hints of coffee, chocolate, and malt in it.

T: Tasted of coffee (a pretty large shot of it), dark chocolate, malt, a little cherry flavor and hops (more than I expected from a brown ale). An unusual flavor for the style, but pretty complex and tasty.

M: A highly carbonated beer with a smooth, crisp finish. Medium-bodied.

O: Not your typical brown ale - a fact that will displease some - but well worth your time.

Got this one at Geers in Ghent. First had a taste courtesy of rvdoorn a while back. Cheers man!

From a bottle into a snifter

APPEARANCE: Pours a medium sized, medium looking, off-white head with decent retention. Sienna brown with lots of carbonation up the middle of the glass. Good full cap remains until the end leaving some dots of lacing down the glass.

SMELL: Green peas.

TASTE: A touch of roasted and smoky malts, then some coffee, mocha, and some chcolate in there. A mild yet lingering aftertaste of bitter mocha, coffee, and a touch of dark chocolate and smoky malts, Only a slight hint of the green peas here, which was a huge, huge relief.

PALATE: Medium body and medium carbonation. Creamy smooth on the palate, goes down smooth and finishes relatively dry. Pretty decent.

OVERALL: A decent beer, but nothing special. The nose absolutely destroyed any chance this one had of being anything better than it is. A lack luster offering from an otherwise excellent brewery.

Appearance: deep brown with a billowy creamy, head.
Smell: pungent roasted coffee, I mean like dark Italian roast. Some dark chocolate.
Taste: Much more mellow than the nose but the same flavors. Coffee up front, some dark chocolate.
