A - Pours a very cloudy tan orange color, no head, barely any lacing.

S - Aroma makes up for the scary color. Dank fruity and piney hops - grapefruit, and light orange. Caramel doughy malt.

T - Follows the nose. Light doughy caramel sweetness underneath from start to finish with a very assertive hop presence: grapefruit and pine bitterness, light bubblegum, slight earth, and a very noticeable alcohol warming on the way down, especially after that first sip. Ends with a layer of wet, sweet malt and a lingering coating of peppery grapefruit and pine.

M - Medium body, slightly and still dry, bitterness is aggressive and lingering leaving the mouth with a coating of peppery grapefruit, oranges, and pine. The alcohol effervescence creates a layer of dryness over top of a wet palette.

O - Another high octane IBU palette trasher with Mikkeller's hand in the brew kettle. Plan on everything tasting like water after this beer. Powerful and aggressive.

Pours deep amber with a fading head.
Masses of pine and resinous hops on the nose along with a massive hit of clean malt and caramel.
Super full-on flavours, heaps of pine and resinous, spicy and earthy hops along with loads more clean malt underneath. Finishes with an aggressive but balanced bitterness.
Carbonation could be a bit higher.

A: The beer is very hazy dark yellowish amber in color. It poured with a half finger high off white head that died down, leaving a thin layer of bubbles covering the surface and a thick collar around the edge of the glass.
S: There are moderate to strong aromas of a mixture of hops (pine resin, tropical fruits, citrus) and caramel malts in the nose.
T: The taste is similar to the smell and has a moderate amount of bitterness. There are balanced flavors of mats and hops in the initial taste and bitterness lingers through the finish.
M: It feels medium-bodied and rather crisp on the palate with a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: This beer is very well balanced between the malts and hops and any traces of alcohol are non-existent.

330ml bottle. I know that it's To Øl, but I still very much want to crank some Tool while I do this...

This beer pours a dark, hazy golden apricot hue, with two fingers of dense, foamy off-white head, which leaves a decent array of coral reef lace around the glass as it slowly ebbs away.

It smells of sweet toffee/caramel malt, moderately bitter grapefruit and citrus flesh, a musty pale breadiness, some piney forest goodness, and a pungent, but still reserved, booziness. The taste is sweet caramel and toffee malt, a soft untethered mustiness, sassy grapefruit pith and squeezed orange juiciness, all under the spell of a subtly obscured alcohol burbling.

The bubbles are rather well understated, the body a pretty full weight, all comers welcome to protest, and smooth in a hedonist's sense of the word - i.e. overdone, just a smidge. It finishes sweet, but not overly so, the multi-toned malt doing well to keep things well in concert with the still puff-chested bitter-ass citrus hops.

A decent, no holds-barred DIPA, fo sho. Nothing really stopping this from delving into Barleywine territory, I suppose, given a year or two to pat down the still peppy hops, but hey, choose your own adventure, eh?

330ml bottle poured into tulip 13/10/12

A very hazy light amber with lots of slow tiny bubbles steaming up the side, dense cream colored foam hangs around long enough to leave a few rings of lace followed by random patches, pretty solid looking DIPA

S piney rind hit me right away followed by caramel malt and dry cereal, a little booze but 10.5% I'd never guess, some sweet tropical notes are working well

T all sorts of citric rind and loads of pine resin, mimics the smell well but the piney rind takes over from the other aspects and some balance is lost, don't get me wrong I don't mind some overkill

M its a bit of a palate wrecker but not quite enamel stripping, fairly full bodied and only after the liquids in my stomach do I feel the booze. long finish of rind and pine with a faint herbal aspect, sticky on the lips and a little gritty in the mouth

O solid example of a DIPA, balance in the nose but becoming a runaway in the mouth, well concealed booze and no shortage of hops

pretty big DIPA that I'd drink again no questions asked, price is reasonable and I could see this one turning into a nice Barley Wine if you sat on it for a year or two

Poured from a 33cL bottle into a brandy snifter. My bottle reads "OV-RAL IIPA" but I'm reviewing here rather than the Ov-Ral listing to the 10.5% ABV. The cap is stamped 9271204.

A: Fluffy (short-lived) head and murky amber-brown body that is translucent but not trasparent. Noticeable effervescence. Looks like a hefty ale.

S: Brettanomyces. Grapefruit. Passionfruit. Sugars.

T: Hmhmm. I'm pretty sure I like it. The sugar was correct -- it is rather sweet, sugary even, especially right up front. Then citrusy-bitter hops intrude, rather rudely, but not ineffectively. Towards the end of the taste, the funky yeast plays out, leaving you with a tangy finish. The alcohol is apparent, but usually only when you're looking for it. Still, there's something not quite great about it.

M: And that something might be the mouthfeel. It's occasionally sticky and rarely carbonated. Generally, it's largely malty, but rather than being chewy or smackworthy, it's just vaguely lumpy.

O: I mostly enjoyed it, but I probably wouldn't have another. There are a lot of great aspects, but also some significant flaws.

A: Pours a murky dark golden orange in color (almost like an apple cider) with moderate amounts of visible carbonation. The beer has a half finger tall creamy beige head that slowly reduces to an extremely thin film covering the entire surface of the beer with a thick ring at the edges of the glass. Moderate amounts of lacing are observed.

S: Strong aromas of citrus/grapefruit and tropical/pineapple hops with some moderate aromas pine/resin hops. Very light amounts of caramel malts in the background.

T: There is a light amount of caramel malts with just a touch of sweetness in the background behind a huge flavor of hops - primarily citrus/grapefruit with lighter notes of tropical/pineapple and pine/resin. Just a light amount of bitterness that quickly fades.

M: Moderate to heavy bodied with light to moderate amounts of carbonation. Chewy.

O: This is a really big beer and drinks like it - intense hop flavors and aromas and packs a punch with the high ABV so is best sipped slowly. Enjoyable with a moderate amount of complexity.

A - Pured with one finger of white from on top of a hazy, dark golden body. The head collapses fairly quickly and leaves light traces of lace on the glass.

S - an earthy aroma of hops with notes of pine and sweat.

T - Toffee and red apple up front with some caramel creeping out. A touch of black licorice in the middle and some orange hop notes. Finishes with caramel apple and herbal hops as well as sights bitterness.

M - A moderately thick body, moderate carbonation, and a somewhat sweet finish.

D - Not bad, but not quite a world class dips. More English in character than I would have expected. Not one of the better hoppy beat from mikkelller.

A: single finger off white head on a very murky golden amber body.

S: tart fruits, mostly red apple and pineapple with some herbal notes. little on the malt side.

T: very tart and fruity, almost like one of those multi-fruit not from concentrate juices with red apple, pineapple and orange. Bittering and floral hops in the finish. Has almost a root beer or cola note to it as well.

M: medium body and moderate carbonation.

Overall: the hops arent very strong. Nice fruit cocktail flavors and the right amount of bitter balance.

Pours out a nice hazy gold/orange, nice creamy white head. Leaves some decent lace behind.

Grapefruit and bready malt make up most of the smell. Light for such a heavy brew.

Daaaang! This is one nice IIPA. Grapefruit, cumquat and country white bread start this beast off. Some mineral and pine notes follow, with a smooth, slightly hot finish. Well balanced, but better hop profile than most of the other IPA or IIPA's Mikkeller is involved in.

I loved this beer. 'Nuff said.

A collaborative brew from Mikkeller and ToØl, but brewed at De Proef Brouwerij in Belgium. Minimalist label on the bottle.

Thick, frothy head that leaves a blanket of lace after each sip. Cloudy orange-amber color.

Superbly fresh smelling hop, very floral and soft with a touch grapefruit. Notable alcohol in the background.

Soft malt start which continues as long as I hold the liquid in my mouth. The swallow, though, is a lip puckering experience of peppery hop. Smooth but harsh at the same time. Full bodied with a low but appropriate level of carbonation.
