Great local place to find beers other places do not have or carry at substantially higher prices. Glad I found this gem and glad it is so close to my work!

Shenanigan's isn't a large store. But it's a great spot to find something that vanished from the shelves of the larger local liquor stores. The beer selection can be described as quality over quantity. There might not be a lot, but if you are looking for a new special release, you can find it here. Plus, they have about 8 taps for tastings, pints, or growler fills (when allowed).

The store is located on the retail side of a college apartment complex, so they also cater to what is around them, for smart business reasons.

Shenanigan's is a dark horse in the Lexington bottle shop market. They seem to get regular shipments of great IPAs, which is always nice. (Bells, 3 Floyds, Mikkeller, etc.) I can almost always find something that I'm interested in trying. Their prices are a little higher so it seems, but the staff is extremely knowledgeable. They have about 8 taps and their taplist is comparable to other bottle shops like Liquor Barn Hamburg, etc. This seemingly small liquor store actually has a large cooler where most of the craft beer is kept. It is super cold so bring a jacket!

Stopped by Shenanigan's after visiting the Alltech Lexington Brewery and Town Branch Distillery (which by the way is a decent tour if you're in Lexington). They were doing renovations on the tap room at the brewery and had made arrangements with Shenanigan's to do beer tastings with your tour ticket.

The young man doing the tastings was a very nice guy as well as being helpful. There were two guys working in the store and they both seemed to be pretty knowledgeable about beers. They do have growlers and had several beers on tap including, of course, the whole Lexington Brewing Company portfolio. The store doesn't look like much from the outside but once inside you are greeted by a rather large and airy store with the walk in cooler being a treasure trove for any craft lover. I saw tons of familiar names and several I really wasn't familiar with. Huge selection of craft bombers. I took home a four pack of both Kentucky Bourbon Barrel Ale and Kentucky IPA.

The place is also a liquor store and has some C-Store food items that were of no interest to me. The liquor selection looks ok.

The location is definitely one you'd have to know about since pulling into the parking lot I thought we made a wrong turn in spite of the GPS telling me I was at my destination. If you are in Lexington the place is certainly worth a visit.

Shenanigan's is a liquor store with a healthy selection of craft beer. Most of their beer is located in a walk-in cooler with a few warm singles and large format bottles on a nearby shelf. There are a couple guys that know their beer, but most of the staff are just college kids earning a paycheck. They have a windowed portion of their beer cooler dedicated to new beers that week, which helps you find stuff if you stop in regularly, but they have a pretty diverse selection otherwise. FYI, their beer delivers on Friday afternoons.

Shenanigan's has a about 10 taps where they offer growler service and will even let you have a beer while you shop or hang out. They make a dedicated effort to obtain some hard to get beers, even if they are usually outbid by other beer joints. It's easy to find a good beer here and sometimes you can pick up a Cantillon or two, if you're lucky. They'll usually update their Facebook page with new stuff on Friday, if anything worthwhile comes in. Their prices are usually a dollar or two higher than other beer stores in town, but it's a small price to pay if they're the only place you can find an Imperial Biscotti Break or Zombie Dust. I regularly check out Shenanigan's each week, but if I can find the beer at The Beer Trappe or Liquor Barn, I'll usually get it there instead. Shenanigan's is a great place to find hidden gems.

I completely disagree with kaips1 and the evaluation. However, it could have been the timing that kaips1 was in there. On rare occasion I have been in there and the personnel did not and have a high knowledge of beer. It is a neighborhood liquor store that has beer, wine and liquor. It is a full liquor store not a beer specialist. With that being said, it has one of the best selections for beer as it relates to a neighborhood liquor store. Shenanigans was one of the biggest reasons that I got more involved in craft beer. They pointed me to Hop Slam last year when i was a newbie into craft beer. Every time I go in there I learn about different types of beer and what to expect with each selection that I do make. Shenanigans introduced me to TIPA, BORIS, DORIS, Dreadnaught, Zombie Dust, Hop Slam, Devil Dancer, as well as some other styles outside of my comfort zone. My lovely wife went in a few weeks ago and described what I like (IPA) and wanted to get me a growler. They did not have a good selection of IPAs on tap. Instead, they pointed her to Bow and Luke, which in turn has turned me on to Imperial Stouts. Shenanigans has one of the best selections of beer and has a knowledgeable staff and I would recommend it over most places in town to buy beer.

Stopped by there this weekend. New to the area and was checking selections and prices. I noticed real quick that this is the only store worth going to in Downtown Lexington. I was impressed! From outside the place doesn't look that big, but is huge. The selection was one of the best that i've seen in a long time. I would suggest stopping by if your around, you may find a gem hiding in that walk-in . Prices were fair and it had a little for everyone. Growlers to go and pints at the location. Smart move people

Newly opened in the fall of 2010, Shenanigan's strives to be the new way that beer, wine, liquor, and party supplies share the same space without feeling like an impersonal warehouse. Bright, shiney, and clean; the space is open planned with low clutter and with a layout that allows for proper flow.

Located on the side of a massive, newly constructed multi-use complex, the storefront can be tough to capture the eye from the busy Broadway Street near the UK campus. Appearing as a smallish shotgun store, the space is much more expansive inside than the is indicated by the exterior. Walking inside, you are met by a floating circular desk that is much more friendly and inviting than the standard grocery store design of most alcohol retailers. Matt, who was working at the time, manned the desk and spent a good portion of time giving the grand tour and talking about the types of beers that they carry and want to carry in the near future.

....about those beers, the craft/import section seems about 50/50 and together runs about 100 brands including Left Hand, Sierra Nevada, Stone, Rogue, Dogfish Head, Guinness, Stella, Smithwicks, Lion, and a few Trappist ales... and more of the like. There's no real general surprises that this store's beers offer that isn't found at numerous other retailers in town. The brightest spots were the bottles of Sam Adam's Utopias on display and for sell, as well as the Infinium that was being unpacked at the time of my visit.

A growler station is situated half way down the beer cooler section and numbers about eight or so. Blue Moon, Sam Adams, Sierra Nevada, and Franziskaner were a few of the beers that were spotted. According to the chalk board, tastings for the tap beers are available upon request and for a modest fee. They are obviously trying to make the store relaxed and flexible for the beer buyer.

But if you're around the college area, the selection here certainly does well in a pinch. Shenanigan's certainly caters to the college scene and makes no appologies about it. They have a small section of the store that acts like a convenient store with munchies, microwavable foods, and party mixers. Also available are a small section of cigars, flasks, glassware, and keg taps. But as a beer destination for the serious beer geeks, I don't expect this store to be at the top of the list. But if your buds are doing a beer run, any beer geek will find a few tasty treats that are sure to satisfy.

Though the extent of their portfolio isn't as grand or comprehensive as several others in town, I'll stop in from time to time to offer my support as I think that they understand where the tomorrow of liquor/beer/wine stores are going.
