Notes:
For our Second Anniversary beer, we tapped into the legendary fictional adventures of the mythical Cap'n Skoon to bring you this monster Baltic Stout. It's big and roasty like an imperial stout but fermented with a German lager yeast. Ideal for sipping now, or be like the Cap'n and stash some away in your cargo hold for the years to come. Cheers!

22 oz. bottle served in a Westbrook Tulip. Bottled 12/18/12.
A: Pours a pitch black color with a thick, dark mocha head forming on the pour. The retention is top notch. Sticky sheets of lace are left down the glass.
S: This is big beer. Super roasty with some fruity yeast in the periphery. Alcohol notes are present, but it doesn't detract from the roasted malts and big dark chocolate notes. Some cocoa powder is there as well.
T: A ton of roasted malts, some char and a touch of cocoa bean. Bitter dark chocolate with some light fruity yeast in the background. Definitely seems like an amped up Baltic porter due to the yeast strain. Enjoyable.
M: Low carbonation. Silky smooth across the palate. Medium bodied. Finish is chocolate and big roast.
O: This a big and roasty beer, but the yeast strain drops subtle hints that it's still got some Baltic porter bloodlines at heart. It's pretty ready to go now with the booze well hidden. Don't really see this benefiting from any extended aging. Maybe a year if you want the robust roasted malts to die down a bit.

Thanks to treebs for this and the properglassware assist. Enjoyed from my new westbrook snifter!
a - wow. Pours a rich stunning black with a generous dark tan creamy head that fizzled down to a thin skin. Really attractive.
s - milk chocolate and roast. Really well balanced. Has some charry briskness.
t - wow, big rich bold chocolate and roast. This beer is amazing! Extremely well balanced with just a touch of char to give it some brisk characteristics.
m - medium tomfull bodied, big and bold.
o - i am very impressed, this beer is a home run.

Happy Father’s Day. Bottle courtesy of Brad. Served in Westbrook glassware, also courtesy of Brad. The beer is black with an inch of beige head. The aroma brings chocolate, molasses, dark fruit. Beautiful balance and delicious flavor. Alcohol is evident but gracefully masked. Rich and full bodied. Abundant chocolate, both dark and milk. Palate coating and viscous. Delicious.

Poured from the bottle into a snifter glass.
Boy is this a super dark head although barely a pencil tall, it is a super dark mocha brown chocolate, and settles to a nice small collar. Body and nearly black, with some red hues and totally opaque.
Bouquet is both fascinating, odd, and weird and sort of wonderful. A sticky chocolate sense, and hints of berried red fruit. Lots of sweet pipe tobacco on this, mixing with a strange brine sort of salinity. It's bizarre but really unique, I kind of like it but I am scared to figure out what is next.
Oh this is really nice on the palate. Sharp lingering hop and roast, and wonderful aromatic tobacco notes and dark chocolate. Creamy palate with a little tinge of carbonation. Wonderful nice bitterness on the finish which matches bittersweet dark chocolate nicely, and deep red berried fruit. Coffee roasty as well while finishing with a great hint of cream. Lots of different flavors in this that really gel nicely, and mixing hop and bitter chocolate nicely, and hints of black licorice.
This is a wonderful brew, great to have tried it!

22oz bottle from Hop City (Atlanta, GA). 8.99. Bottled 12/18/12. Served in a Three Floyds teku.
Pours a near black dark chocolate with a finger and a half of dense mocha head that leaves a smattering of small, lacey dots.
Smells of chocolate, roast grains, creamed coffee and mild plums.
Taste is very bold with bitter dark chocolate, roasty coffee, earthy bark, a little smoke, licorice, anise and cherry skins. The booze is noticeable towards the finish but well integrated and doesn't distract from the roasty goodness.
Creamy, medium thick feel with fairly mild carbonation. Lingering bitter roasty aftertaste.
Another very strong offering from Westbrook. I've had several Baltic porters but I think this is my first Baltic stout- and it stands head and shoulders above pretty much all of the porters. I'll definitely pick up another couple bottles if I see it again and I'd love to try a barrel aged version of this gem.
