Notes:
This year’s version (in our opinion) blows the first batch out of the water. The malt bill is simplified, resulting in a lighter, drier beer – which allows the massive hop additions to shine through. A mix of fresh grapefruit, lemons, limes, and oranges was added to the boil, and this batch also features a blend of several different American and New Zealand hop varieties, instead of just Cascade. At 9.5% ABV, this beer means business.

Thanks to dogdoc for this one. Reviewed from notes. Poured from bomber into a TCCB pint glass.
A: Pours a cloudy deep gold with a one-finger white head and moderate visible carbonation.
S: Big caramel notes from malt, a citrus background with some grassy hop notes in there too.
T: Sweet caramel, then pine resin and some orange rind from the hops. This is coming across overly sweet and underly complex.
M: A bit heavy bodied, sticky sweet mouthfeel, decent carbonation sensation, alcohol fairly well hidden.
O: Did i say sweet? Almost like an orange dreamsicle sweetness. It isn't a bad beer, but I went into it with hopes of being blown away. More citrus in the nose than the palate, but not huge amounts in either. I'm just not a huge fan of this beer, but it's not bad.

Poured the murky, orange-amber beer from a 22 oz bottle dated 19 June 2012 into a snifter with nary a head. Nonetheless, some lacing was left on the glass,
The fruity nose foreshadows a flavor [3.75] in which grapefruit, lemon and other vague citrus fruit flavors dominate, with a bit of pine resin too. Plenty bitter, as expected, but the bitterness and harshness of a high ABV DIPA are both tempered by a detectable sweetness and light maltiness.
O: Certainly not a bad beer, but disappointing overall, excepting mouthfeel where it does relatively well for a high ABV DIPA. Also, overpriced; this local (same state: SC) beer cost ($8-$9) as much or more than fine beers coming all the way from the West coast (e.g., many from Stone and Rogue).

On tap @ The Lodge in Hilton Head SC.
I've been sipping the regular Westbrook IPA all week, and now on our last night here I find this beer on tap and HAD to try it.
Me likey.
Clear light golden body... Small head, rather weak lacing, but decent retention.
Smells hugely of citrus fruits with a light dry booziness coming through.
The flavor has a little sweet bread (think Hawaiin bread) kind of note before the citrus hops just fucking kill it. Large grapefruit, orange, pineapple, and lemon notes with a nice New Zealand hop kick I can pick out.
Good bitterness, not too overwhelming, but firm and strong-- you KNOW you're drinking a hopped up beer for sure. Kind of light body, but good carbonation and a nice dry finish.
Overall-- delicious. It isn't a world class DIPA, but it certainly rocked my world after this past week. Totally worth a try.

Pours a cloudy orange-amber. Minimal lacing with slight foam ring around the edge of the glass, but then I didn't really give it an aggressive pour.
Nose is fruity with orange and lemon citrus notes.
Taste is really hoppy with slight sweet malt in the background. Flavors of bitter orange peel, some spice hints. Hop finish is quite strong with a little alcohol heat. Mouthfeel is thick and has nice prickly carbonation.
Really nice citrusy, hoppy DIPA. Would love to try this on tap. Yummy.

Honey gold pour with a forced 1/8th of a finger of deep cream head. No retention. Active carbonation with a good amount of fine bubbles. Very light lace.
Nose is an explosion of citrus, more from the fruit add-ins. Getting lots of grapefruit, tangerine, orange. Very earthy, dusty, estery hop mix on top of that - all combining for a sweet flavor. Very nicely done.
Taste brings even more citrus fruit and dusty, earthy hops. Tangerine, orange, grapefruit, and hop esters all combine for a great taste. Like the hop oil and earthy flavor. Enough malt behind this to give appropriate backbone without overpowering the hops. Fairly significant hop and alcohol burn.
Extremely thick feel for the style. Very oily. Thick and slick.
Really glad I got to try this.
