22oz. bottle poured into an imperial pint. Many thanks to my friend Bob for sending this my way!

(A)- Pours a cloudy orange color. Produced a large and fluffy white head. Great retention and lacing.

(S)- A nice dry profile. Bits of lemongrass, clay, mild earth, and a pleasant orange peel citrus at the end.

(T)- A bit heavier in the yeast department, but has the same dry/grassy lemon and earthy clay profile. Plenty of pine at the end reminding you of the IPA namesake.

(M)- A nice carbonation level. Has a good balance too, though is quite heavy in the yeast and bitter pine areas, but otherwise quite nice.

(D)- Overall, the saison/IPA combo is a success in this one. Has the earthy dryness of the saison and the bitter pine and citrus of an IPA.

Thanks to dogdoc for this one! Reviewed from notes. Poured from bomber into CCB pint glass.

A: Hazy, light apricot color with a medium amount of visible carbonation and a one and a half finger white foamy head.

S: Caramel malts, Belgian fruity yeasts, and hoppiness (pine, citrus pith).

T: Belgian yeast (fruity esters and a bit of banana) and some barnyard, then comes the caramel malt, then some pine hoppy bitterness that lingers just a bit.

M: Medium body, a good amount of carbonation sensation, and a bitter sticky mouthfeel. Minimal alcohol presence, and I get a tingly bitter sensation in the front of my mouth.

O: Well, this was interesting, and was pretty good. It defied categorization. Unlike many intermediate styles of beers that I've had, this pulled off what it set out to, a hoppy farmhouse ale. And it did so very well, each flavor distinct from the others. The thing is, I'm just not sure that the hoppy bitterness mixing with the Belgian fruity sweetness works well for me.

22 oz. bottle served in a Firestone Walker tulip. Bottled February 3, 2012.

A: Pours a solid golden color with some slight haze. A thick and airy white head forms on the pour. It recedes slowly to a frothy and bubbly ring. Sticky lace is left down the glass.

S: Yeasty body with a ton of fruity esters and some funk. Green hops, orange pith with some mild peach flavors. It's wrapped around some funk and light cracker malts.

T: The yeast is a little more subdued on the palate and the IPA side sort of takes over. Even for being 5 months old there still is some nice grassy hop flavors with pale and biscuit malts. There is some mild funk to it as well.

M: Medium to light bodied with nice carbonation. The finish is slightly grassy in nature.

O: Nice balance of yeast and base IPA. The hops still held up after this time and it played nicely with the bretty funk.

Builds a huge, pastel yellow, rocky foam that lives long, leaving thick patches of lace over a honey-amber beer. The head turns to a thick pillow, never actually dissipating within the Dogfish Head Fisheye Pint glass.

An intriguing funkiness of brett with fresh tangerine zest and lemon, the herbal notes are equally prominent.

Bitter and sour flavors duel for prominence, with bitterness ultimately winning out. This one opens with orange rind and quickly turns to a strong grapefruit. The long, bitter finish starts to numb the tongue later in the session.

A medium body with the texture of jersey cotton and soft carbonation. The alcohol is as expected and the beer is otherwise dry, particularly in the finish.

An enjoyable early evening beer to be consumed slowly. As with most Saisons, this one warms well, however, the bitterness is a bit high.

Not really to any style as far as I can tell, but this is not a detriment, it rather lends to the interest. The high bitterness, while enjoyable, does ultimately overwhelm the subtle flavors. Another good trade.

Appearance: Amber pour, a bit cloudy, decent head and lacing
Smell: weird ipa/saison combo, slightly sweet
Taste: Slightly earthy, with some tangerine and citrus. Seems like a common saison strain I can't quite pinpoint
Overall: Interesting beer, would drink it locally but not seek it out

22 oz bottle poured into a tulip at cellar temperature.

L - Deep gold color with a huge 4-finger white, bubbly, creamy head. Nice retention, great lacing. Nice amount of carbonation. It’s interesting how it’s a few shades lighter than the original Westbrook IPA.

S - Very complex aroma. Caramel and honey, malt sweetness with orange, lemon, and floral hop aromas. Also a subtle but noticeable mustiness from the Brettanomyces and a hint of cloves and vinegar from other yeasts.

T - A hint of caramel sweetness but mostly spice and tartness to open up the taste. The hops appear toward the end with a nice bitter finish with grapefruit and floral notes.

F - Medium-bodied, nice tingling carbonation, chewy and mouth-coating feel, and a less bitter but drier finish than the original. Mustiness from the Brett lingers for a few seconds until the bitter finish takes over and lingers for longer.

O - I loved this beer. It has the aromas and flavors of the original Westbrook IPA, but they are slightly subdued to allow room for musty, tart, and spicy notes to appear. It’s definitely not the best IPA or the best saison, but Westbrook has blended the styles nicely. Very unique but also very drinkable. I’m glad I picked this one up.

Bottle to Bruery Tulip

App- Deep deep orange with a solid center. Has a mix of yellows and golds mixed in. A small 1/2 finger head with decent cling and lace.

Smell- A big dose of earthy, grassy notes on this one. On another smell comes the yeast and a bit of citrus.

Taste- A nice mix of styles. The yeast balances this out but not like Stones Cali. This was more thick and earthy vs a big citrus punch. A nice beer but nothing that was earthy shattering.

Mouth- A good light medium with a medium carbonation level. The yeast comes out nicely and creates a earthy, mini spicy pocket of flavor.

Drink- Tasty, but was hoping for something closer to Stone Cali-Belg. Nice layers but just didnt pop like I was hoping.
