Notes:
Happy birthday to us! To celebrate our first year as a brewery we brewed a serious imperial stout and aged it on cocoa nibs, vanilla beans, cinnamon sticks, and fresh habanero peppers. This is the first offering in our annual Anniversary series. Here’s to many more!

A - Pours nearly black into my Charleston Beer Exchange tulip glass with 1.5 fingers of rich chocolate colored head. Retnetion is solid - a think layer remains across the top and a thick outer ring leads the lacing up the glass (~8 minutes after pour)
S - Lots of sweet and roasty chocolate, oak and vanilla and with a sweet pepper burn in the nose (maybe that's the cinnamon?).
T - Super smooth and delicious. Roasty slightly smokey, bitter cocoa and vanilla transitions to a slightl alcohol burn and cinnamon. The delay aftertaste is heavy on spicey (but slightly sweet) peppers. Pretty sure this is going have more of a burning effect as it goes!
M - Full bodied and minimally carbonated - incredibly smooth, fantastic to drink.
O - Didn't disappoint. Perfect mouthfeel, really nice taste, perfect amount of habenero (which is so key). Otherwise tastes like a delicious chocolate/vanilla/oak stout (my favorite). I'd love to try this without the habeneros as well - I'm sure this is better, but that would be pretty damn good too!

2013 release; reviewing growler from Westbrook served in tulip @ 45deg.
A: Pitch black with a thin, dirty brown head.
S: Rich milk chocolate aroma.
T: Rich chocolate, biscuit-y, finishes with a subtle dark chocolate bitterness. The heat from the pepper lingers nicely.
M: Sumptuous, rich, thick and heavy. A nice medium pepper heat that coats the mouth.
O: Heat from the peppers more distinct than I recall from the anniversary release, resulting in an even more complex version than the original. Rich chocolate nearly on par with ST Chocolat, but with a perfect pepper heat. This beer changes so much depending on the temperature it is served at. Peppers come out once it warms to mid/high 50's. All around wonderfully complex beer that is surprisingly drinkable; I used this as a test ground for observing how temperature can transform a beer.

Thanks to... I think Andy, at my 30th birthday whale tasting.
Pours a big fizzy fluffy dark head, decent lacing and nice legs.
Nose has cocoa nibs, dusty oak barrel and wooden shelf, light cinnamon, woody esters, hint of dark chocolate and vanilla.
Taste brings sweet chocolate, caramel, dusty oak and wooden shelf, nice light chili pepper heat, little cinnamon again, little soy though too, light bready malts, thick and lush, hot pepper and booze there, syrupy.
Mouth is thick and syrupy, decent carb, some booze and pepper heat.
Overall not bad, decent characters, nice pepper and chocolate, bit of soy though.

Shared by I think Andy at the JLindros Birthday Whale Tasting. Reviewed from notes. Pretty amped I got to try this one. So many trades for one of these have fallen through.
A - Poured into a Kate the Great tulip a dark brownish black hue with a one finger khaki head that fades to leave light lacing. Pretty solid.
S - Nice vanilla, chocolate, super light heat. Very, very faint cinnamon and sweeter malts.
T - Taste is more of the light faint head, tons of chocolate. Very nice vanilla, slight chipotle smoke. Fairly malty and sweet. Not getting much cinnamon.
M - Super carbonated, almost distractingly so. Yet some how it is thick and chewy...makes no sense, but it is what it is.
O - Overall glad I got to try this one, finally. Its a damn solid mexican style stout. Would like a bit more spice and cinnamon though.
