Angry black with a stark mocha head settling to a persistently thick quarter pipe all the way around the glass.
The base shines with a nutty, mild smokiness at the same exact time that the barrel brings an unbelievably unique berry character without any tartness, or booziness. The smooth, cleanly expressive roast gives this a really fresh character, after 4 and a half years that's saying something. The medium body has a firm carbonation and a dry finish.
This MC variant seems less spicy than others I've had, and the barrel is so damn prominent without being overpoweringly hot like I'd expected it to be. There is a mild green apple nose, but that's the only flaw I can find here, and we're unsure if that's not just further influence from the barrel to be honest. Either way, this is a beautiful barrel treatment.

This beer was close to undrinkable. Mexican cake is one of my favorite beers and I always chase the variants. Super disappointing. Drain pour

This poured out as a rich oily black color with a strong brown head on top. The smell of the beer has some good sweetness on the nose, plenty of coffee and spice on the nose. The taste of the beer has some very subtle barrel qualities to it along with the coffee and spice in the finish. The feel of the beer is full bodied. Overall this beer is very good, was fun to try it.
