We had an odd trip to Funkwerks. We had a Groupon, which fro $25 got both my girlfriend and I a full flight of all six beers they had on tap, a really great looking tulip glass with the FW logo on it and a couple of bombers to go. Overall, a great deal.
However, about 30 minutes after we arrived a large bus pulled up and dropped off a bachelor party, so it immediately went from quiet, comfortable afternoon to wild and crazy mid-bachelor party. Granted, this is not the breweries fault, but when one middle-aged, overweight guy decided to take his shirt off, and three other dudes followed his lead it really killed the atmosphere. Again, not the fault of the brewery, however, nothing was done about it. The bar and wait staff just looked disgusted and allowed it to continue, which was quite irritating.
The quality of the beer was good, although, with only Belgian-style brews, I was not sampling my favorite types of beer. The portions, however, were very generous and a few of the beers I will seek out to try again upon moving to Boulder in the summer. The Saison in particular was good.
Our table service was outstanding, minus the lack of control that our waitress and the bartenders had over the pack of over-the-hill former frat boys. Otherwise, she was attentive and informative, something I appreciate in a brewery's waitstaff. I can not stand going to a brewery and having some cute college chick deliver a tray full of beer samples and then not have any ability to discuss any of it. I am here to LEARN and experience, not to look. There are Hooters and strip clubs everywhere, I don't need that at my brewery.
The selection was somewhat minimal, which is to be expected from a new, small brewery. The line up that they do offer, however, was clearly crafted with care.
No Food.

This is easily one of the most funkiest colored and warm looking breweries I've been to.
In a small industrial section, behind service roads for auto parts shops, is a very green and purple and yellow looking building.
Once inside the place is filled with warmth and lots of bright sun. It is small, but there is attention to detail here. Vintage replica bar counter is 50s boomerang, the chairs are nicely shapped, and the wall is painted a soothing green with circular bright tap handles that showcase their beer.
I haven't tried every single breweries beers in Colorado, but this one was certainly my favorite. Their takes on saisons are really nice and balanced, many bursting with aromas (Passion Fruit Montagne was particularly wonderful on the nose).
The service is very cherrful and solid, and the front staff know their product. Selection is about 10 on tap beers and bottles, with maybe 2 guest taps, but I wouldn't come here to drink anything else but Funkwerks.
Easily my favorite brewery to go drink a beer in, worth a return visit if in the area.

Visited on 10/10/12. GABF Week. (Stop #6 of the day)
A: The atmosphere is okay, not a huge place as the bar can hold about 8 patrons and the tasting room has enough upright tables that could hold about another 20-25 people.
Q: The quality of the beers were decent as they focused on lighter style beers and all were very good. The big stand out for me was the Green Tea Saison.
S: The service was decent, the bartender knew enough about their beers but beyond that wasn't very talkative, especially given the fact that our group were the only ones there for half the time.
S: The selection was decent as they had 7 different beers on tap, most focused on lighter style beers, saisons, berliner weiss, and golden ales.
V: A flight of 5 plus additional samples of the last 2 beers cost $14 for 6oz samples.
Overall, a small place that I wouldn't want to be at when crowded but the beers make a stop worth it.

A cool little place that is very laid back and chill. A handful of beers on tap; the only two staples being their Saison and Tropic King. The rest rotate, some stay longer than others with their weekly special kegs being around the shortest (duh!). Service is decent; prompt and helpful. The quality of the beer is great, like I have come to expect from FW. If you want a local Belgian styled beer no place in Colorado does it better than these guys. My biggest gripe was that they didn't offer growlers. That said, probably my favorite taproom to hit up here in Fort Collins.

my favorite of the fort collins stops so far. tiny multicolored tap room with a great outdoor patio. very cozy feel going on. maybe 7 beers on tap, all of them outstanding, and the head brewer on hand to share his latest creation from the back room, which i wont give away, but you will like it. some local cheeses on offer to compliment the beers. sampler was an amazing deal, 7 2/3 full tulips for maybe 9 bucks, sensational. ive always like their beers, and i like them even more after this visit. not to be missed!

Talk about stiff competition, Funkwerks set up shop in the same town as Odell and New Belgium. But good beer breeds more good beer so let's have a go. Visited on a beautiful sunny weekday afternoon. Small tasting room, but the atmosphere was clean and energetic. The beer was poured by two friendly ladies that were well educated on the beer they were pouring. Friendly and laid back. The flagship Saison and White were nice. Pour was generous into appropriate glassware and prices were fair. A few other sour/funky oddities were also on offer. A nice addition to a great beer town. Sorry Portland and San Diego, Ft. Collins is my beer destination.

im new to belgians, or really just havent found any im crazy about, but this place was pretty cool. glad i stopped in. relaxed atmosphere. maybe a little too quiet. i dont think they had any music playing or anything. the girl behind the bar provided a little info, but wasnt too interested in talking beer w us. she spent most of the time on the computer at the oter end of the bar. anyway, i had the funkworks flight. i liked 4 of the 5 really well, but dont think i would want a full pour of any of them. crooked stave only had 2 or 3 available, and the flight was kind of pricey....but i wish i had tried, considering im interested in brett beers. so if youre in FC, def. stop in.

Nice little bar attached to the brewery. Usually not crowded so it is a nice relaxed feeling. The beer selection include funkwerks and crooked stave beers and you can get a flight for each brewery, although sometimes the crooked stave selection is limited. If you're not a fan of saisons or wild beers, stay away because that's all they brew. The service was very good while we were there, but there was only one bartender/waitress running the whole place, so if there are more people, it might be a little slow. You can buy the beer on sight from a cooler if you so desire. The food selection is a little sad and overpriced... crackers, nuts and a cheese plate mostly.

Stopped by on my latest trip to Fort Collins. If I was going to only hit one beer place in Ft. Collins this was going to be it. Saisons and sours are my favorite styles of beer and I had heard good things. High expectations.
Took me a bit to realize its located in the old Fort Collins Brewery, which I always thought was a bit of a bear to find. We walked in and every table along with all the seats at the bar will filled. Guess they do a fairly kicking after work business. Luckily, a table soon opened up and we order both flights (Funkwerks and Crooked Stave) along with the 3 or so specialty beers that weren't included in the flights (Cherry Saison and Citra Saison were two of them). Every single beer on the flight I thought were top notch. Really, top notch. Its amazing, when you go to a brewery where you like everything they do. Tropic King, Saison and Witt were all great. The Citra and Cherry Saisons were some of the best I've ever had. My only complaint was they wouldn't fill growlers for me of either. The service was good, promptly got new beers when we needed them. This was a blast. I ended up going back a couple times. This is definitely going to be my second place to go, everytime I'm back.

Stop #250 on my world brewery tour.
Visited on a Friday around 12:30 the week of GABF. Got the only open table in the small tasting room moments before the Ale Street News bus tour arrived filling the room to capacity.
There were nine beers available. I believe all of them use their house saison yeast with varying malt, hops, adjuncts, and wild yeast.
You have the option of flight 1 or flight 2 in terms of pre built samplers....
Flight 1
Key Lime Rye - rye & barley malt with key lime juice
Saison - flagship saison
Motif - high gravity saison
Hiiscus Resistance - hibiscus added to Resistance
Flight 2
Cochon - Cascade & Centennial, house saison meets APA
Southern Tropic - imperial saison w/ Rakau hops
Chardonnay Barrel Blonde - brett beer
Belgian Resistance - German Munich and Noble Hops
We went with flight 2. While the descriptions are vivid, the actual flavors were very subtle and some of the beers we had difficulty determining the written descriptions.
They had quite a few barrels in the back room and I hope that leads to some Belgian style's with bugs and critters a year or so down the road.
A small, cozy brewery tap room that is right up my alley specializing in Belgians.
