A: Poured out a super thick, viscous, oil black with an extremely small, dark red head yielded from an aggressive pour. The head dissipates very quickly leaving no trace of carbonation
S: Get the peppers almost immediately with tons and tons of roastiness. I picked up lots of rich chocolates and molasses. Also, floating around in the background, I got some vanilla as well as the coffee.
T: A lot more coffee-forward than I expected judging by the smell. Immediately I got the dark coffee and molasses, then the peppers suddenly hit. It's not an overwhelming heat that it produces, but more of a smokey, slightly spicy note.
M: A little weak here. It was very thick and smooth, which I liked, but it had very little carbonation. There's enough of a spicy tingle from the chipotle to almost make up for it, but not quite
Overall, I liked this one a lot. I'm very curious to get another bottle to see if the carbonation issue is the beer itself, or maybe an improper seal on the bottle. I will re-edit this review if it is the latter

not sure what else you could really do to make this beer better, its near perfect, although I haven't had the whiskey version, so I may someday stand corrected. this pours an inky dark color, not quite black, with dark brown bubbles along the edges of the glass and not much else for head. the nose is real complex, smoked malt, or maybe just smoke from the peppers, hot pepper, black coffee, and raw dark chocolate. its a grand symphony in the nose really. the flavor is equally vibrant and orchestral. it starts with the coffee and the smoke, a nice and new combination, then the chipotles come in, not super spicy, but very flavorful. like Mexican hot chocolate, it leaves a mild warmth in my throat that is cured only by the sweetness in the finish. bitter cocoa and nearly burnt malts weave in and out as well, there is just so much going on here. the body is impossibly full, with very little carbonation. its a bottle to share for sure, although definitely tasty enough to consume alone. im amazed how well hidden the alcohol is, and how nice the peppers fit in. the finish is probably the most bizarre part of this, it taste like the end of a cigar, when your mouth is all coated from the smoke, and it almost hurts. its got that same deep set flavor penetration and smoke property. ive never experience anything like it in a beer before. some say I am too in love with mikkeller to objectively review the beers, but this is living proof that im not crazy. this beer is world class.

Poured from a bottle in line at DLD '13. Thank you, kind sir for being so generous.
Very impressed, roasty aroma, oily and dark, full bodied, creamy mouthfeel. Couldn't stop sipping this. That's all I have to say. Find this, and drink it. Share it. Enjoy it.

750ml bottle, pfriem chalice
thanks @suncrust
Jet black body - creamy chocolaty head but minimal lace. Aroma is dominated by charred malt and dry cocoa. Finally there is a (another) beer that marries three of my favorite things : beer, coffee and cat shit. I recall liking the Mikkeller version of this a bit more - you can definitely pick up the chipotle in the finish which is a nice touch, but this is far from exceptional as it relates to integrating coffee into a stout. Bitter dry finish, lots of dark fruit and char.

Served in a Lagunitas mason jar.
Thanks to twiggamortis420 for this bottle!
I dunno why, but this sounds like a Zappa album to me... Anyway, this stuff pours a deep, brackish black-brown topped by a finger of golden brown foam. The nose comprises rich cocoa, light booze, blackly-roasted malts, char, and dry, fruity coffee. It's everything a smoked coffee stout oughta be, though the slight absence of pepper character is somewhat disappointing, even if only minorly so. The taste rectifies this, reprising all of the elements of the smell and including a generous amount of pepper, both flesh and a mild bit of heat, for our collective tasting pleasure. The body is a solid medium, with a very light moderate carbonation and a lightly chewy feel. Overall, a damn fine imperial stout, one whose various components somehow find a way to cooperate and not bicker and clash at all hours of the night. I need to get more of this...
