Burnt red, thin white head. Steely caramel with a hint roast like barely burned toast. Some coarse earthy bitterness livens it up just a bit. Mouthfeel falls off at the end leaving a thin impression. There are plenty of better beers, but this beer tends to show up in places with poor selection so I end up drinking a pint every once in awhile.

I drank this beer in a restaurant in the place where i live on tap. Not served in the proper glass but at least it looked like the Murphy glass!
Nice darkruby/red fluid with a small head. No carbonation.
Not much going on in the smell, some sourness which i also tasted when i took the first sip. A decent beer but not more than that. Next time better a Belgian beer on the tap!

Look: the beer pours a reddish color with a small head.
Smell: Sweet malts, bread, some hops and butter.
Taste: Malts, butter, nuts and a slightly bitter spicy aftertaste
Mouthfeel: medium-low carbonation and medium bodied.
Overall: Simple mass consumption beer, no taste layer, not complex at all, nice for pub quiz and (the real) football though.

Pint glass served from the tap.
A: Pours a dark amber color forming a one finger white to yellow creamy bubbled head. Low retention and few lacings left
T: Sweet. Mild smell of caramel malts. Bit grassy hops. Bit metallic
T: Follows the nose. Strong taste if sweet caramel malts followed by the taste of grassy hops. Good bitter end. Bit metallic too
D: Very light body. Low carbonation. Dry and bitter end. Good drinkability
O: Good session ale. To be enjoyed in a British / Irish pub

I had this one at Erin's Snug Irish Pub in Madison, WI.
Poured a very dark amber color with a good amount of head on it.
Didn't smell a whole lot besides malt.
The taste was pretty good, nothing spectacular but nice. Some bitterness in the finish.
Very smooth, good mouthfeel.
This is a very drinkable beer, nothing overly exciting but it was a good beer.

Reviewed from notes.
Poured into a pint glass. The color is a moderate amber with an off-white head. The nose brings some light biscuit and caramel malt along with a touch of earthy hops. A very slight floral character as well. Taste is mostly some light bread and toast with a bit of bitterness that comes through in the finish and helps add at least a touch of complexity to this. Otherwise, pretty plain.

An clear amber in the orange-red-brown area, very small beige head that leaves no lacing.
The smell is rather weak, some toffee, a hint of toast.
The taste has an early sweetness, toffee ans syrup, some malty tones in the bread crust area, then an alkaloid bitterness.
Medium carbonation, small aggressive bubbles but otherwise rather smooth, somewhat oily.
A very average beer, nothing really stands out, this alkaloid bitterness is not my favorite.

Amber Bronze color with aromas of nuts, bread and lightly roasted malt. The entry on the palate is creamy and well balanced, you can also see in it a presence in acid aftertaste like a red fruit that is not yet ripe. The finish offers a point where drought and a slight hop bitterness. An Irish Red, which offers a range of flavors and considerable power to quench interesting obviously gives a good beer.

A dark copper with a tiny light beige head that dissipates quite quickly. (I think I got a bad pour reading other reviews stating nice big heads on there beer)
Smells a bit malty and a bit hoppy and a lot watery.
Taste is malty, watery and finishes slightly hoppy. Pretty lackluster.
Very smooth and light.
You could probably put these down pretty quickly...if you really wanted to.

Poured from the tap into a pint glass.
The color is a reddish orange with some slight white head but no lacing.
The smell is a bit malty with a some slight hints of hops.
The taste is a little spicey with a bit of a toffee and caramel flavor.
This beer goes down easy but downs have a little bitterness in the aftertaste. Is a pretty easy drinking beer and is light in ABV making a for a good session beer.

A - A dark cooper body...I wouldn't say red...an off white head that disappeared quickly...no lacing
S - Some malts coming through...nothing special
T - The malts are there...but they aren't strong but yet they aren't lacking...a slight metallic taste...once again nothing special
M - Medium body...a tad thin
D - After all that's stated above...I could drink this beer as a session beer...it was a nice choice at the Irish pub

Picked it up on tap at the local pub. Little to no head, but that is basically how all pints are poured there. Arrived a darker, but very clear red. Very thin aroma, can't really characterize it. Taste is smooth and light, not nearly as full as I would have expected from an Irish red. Very drinkable though, due to its overall lightness.

This is the "glass of the month" at Winking Lizard in Mentor, Ohio. Poured from tap last night into a Murphy's pint glass for $5.75. Very cool.
A Nice suprise of a creamy head, 1 cm which stuck around for 2 minutes. Appropriate amber (red!) translucent body which defines the style.
S Classic amber smell, some toffee in the background possibly.
T Classic Irish Red taste. Obviously, this is to style and it may define the style for me. It certainly delivers on what is promised by the name, style.
M Some bite to the feel but it is mostly light mouthfeel, as anyone might expect.
D Great drinkability and I believe that this style lends itself to drinkability.

A- Pours a dark amber color, with a thin white head that fades very quickly and leaves almost no lace on the glass.
S- Aroma is mild and slightly malty. Kind of bland not a whole lot going on here.
T- Overall, I was pretty disappointed by this brew. Toffee and caramel maltiness with a sweet, grainy flavor in the middle with a bit of hop bitterness in the end.
M- Felt a little watery, medium body and carbonation.
D- Ok to drink there's just better out there.

Reviewed 1/3/2009 (Tap @ Flying Saucer, Houston, TX):
Pours a golden amber brownish color body, clear filtered. Average creamy white head lasting. Very malty aroma, some nuttiness. English beer aroma, clean and watery. Crisp grain taste, very English malt tasting. Clean taste, not heavy. Has the qualities of a session ale. Some light fruity aftertaste.

Served on tap in a pint glass.
A- Deep red coloring with a yellow hint to it.
S- Faint malty smell. Not a whole lot there.
T- Good taste to it, but nothing special. Doesn't really stand out from other Irish Red's.
M- A little bitter, but not too bad. Goes down easy.
D- Definitely a drinkable beer several times during a sitting.

Had this (several times) on tap on a cruise ship. Nothing really outstanding in the nose or flavor, but nothing wrong with it either. Bright copper color with a medium off-white head and decent lacing, this beer went down smooth and had a nice rounded finish.
Definitely a good session beer!

A - Reddish amber in color with a think khaki head. Little retebtion or lacing.
S - Very faint aroma of sweet dark malts. The nose just wasnt there.
T - Very sweet up front with a caramel and toasted sugar taste. A very faint spicy hoppiness came through quickly but did not linger. Just not much substance to the taste.
M/D - Thin to medium feel and decent carboantion. A little on the sticky side. Nothing I would seek out again but also not a beer I would pass on if offered.

Served a crisp light copper with a thin frothy head that lasts as a thin layer and leaves slight lacing. Aroma is a bit of caramel and very slight hops. The taste is much fuller and well balanced, crisp caramel malt and earthy hops with a slight dryness. The beer is medium bodied and dry with slight carbonation. This is a great example of the style and at least on draft, seems much better than the reviews show.

Drank this beer when I was in Orlando on a business trip. Wanted to try something new from the Irish... decided to go with the Red instead of the Stout! yeah, I was crazy.
I have to say, this beer is hard to define with the smell and does not taste as usual for a red beer. Nevertheless, it was a good beer to drink but on glass was enough.

Had this beer on tap at the Nine Druken Irishmen in Sin City. The appearance is nice deep red with a creamy lace head. The nose has slight hoppy spiciness, not much else. The same for the taste better than you average american macro, but lacking. The taste was watery, refreshing, slight hops. The mouthfeel fairly carbonated and refreshing. Could be an OK session brew.

Had this beer on tap at an Irish Bar called Molly's in Gramercy Park in Manhattan.
Average beer, looked like a flat cola with a beige 1/2 inch head that settled about half way through with moderate lacing.
It had a pretty strong metallic like flavor with hops up front and a malty finish. Pretty typical for this style of beer.
Probably wouldn't have it again, but I'm glad I tried it.
This could definitely be a session beer if you're in to this style.

A - Medium brown with a quickly fading head. I was disappointed that not much red was visible.
S - Malts with a pinch of hops and a sweetness I can't put my finger on. Plums or apricots maybe.
T - Malty with a hop aftertaste. The alcohol liked to fade in and out as well.
M - Light and slick with slight carbonation.
D - Good to experience probably wouldn't have again.

The colour is clear red-brown. The low head is airy and off white. Almost no lacing.
The smell is very neutral. Some sour notes, some malt and a hint of bitterness.
The taste is a bit roasted. Malty flavours of sweet bread and almonds. Some sour notes. The bitterness is discreet, but it is present in the background. The aftertaste got some sweet malt, yeast and a sour hint of vinegar.
The carbonation is strong and lager-like; the liquid is a little watery.
Well. To quote singer Björk: Theres more to life than this!

I was a big fan of this beer a few years ago and had not drank it in a while I saw it on tap at a bar in the Detroit Airport and thought it was time that I rated it.
Appearance- It poured more of a caramel color than a red. It had just the right amount of foam and left a good lace on the glass.
Smell- A little bit of hops but more malt and yeast.
Taste- Not very bitter and a little more sweet almost balanced. There was slight metallic aftertaste
Mouthfeel- Very balanced.
Drinkability- A good versatile beer for just drinking, eating or darn near anything.
