A rather marginal porter. Mouthfeel thinish, black with a little sizzling carbonation led head. Neutral aroma. A little coffee in there and burnt taste, akin to tabacco ash, slightly bitter, underscored by corn sweetness. More shwartzbier than porter. Not very drinkable.

Deep, dark brown with dark cherry highlights. I can't quite see light all the way through the glass even when I hold it up to my front window. Of course it's nighttime (just kidding). The head is light chocolate brown and looks insubstantial. It fizzed pretty aggressively and dropped to a thin film within minutes. Lace? Nope.
The first question that comes to mind as I smell the beer is: 'this is a porter?' There's very little oomph behind the nose and what's there isn't making me think porter. Weak dark lager at best. The flavor isn't much better. This may be the worst porter that I've had yet. For starters, it has almost no chocolate or coffee notes whatsoever. Mildly roasted dark malt with a sour 'bite' is about it. It's also way too thin and fizzy.
I'm not impressed by Yuengling Porter. No sir, not at all. This brewery seems to have somewhat of a loyal, cult following, but after sampling two of their offerings, I fail to see the attraction.

Appearance: Pours a dark brown body with a frothy, though quickly diminishing beige head.
Smell: Simple, sweetish aroma of chocolate and caramel cubes.
Taste: Caramel and chocolate-flavored candy with a sugary sweetness. Hops, along with any corresponding flavors and bitterness seem entirely absent. Overall, there's a displeasing artificiality to the taste that leaves you looking around for a glass of water to rinse your mouth out.
Mouthfeel: Thin-bodied. Starts off with a moderate carbonation, but it soon settles. A tad watery.
Drinkability: A beer that's forever stuck on the thin bridge between Craftsville and Swill Town.

Appearance: Pours a dark chocolate color with ruby highlights capped by a thick mocha head; some lace
Smell: A hint of roast, but rather neutral
Taste: Dark bread moving in an almost sour charred direction by mid-palate; roasty and charred after the swallow
Mouthfeel: Medium body with moderate carbonation
Drinkability: Rather easy to drink if you don't mind the extreme char element, but lacks the flavor profile of the better porters

Pours an almost opaque super dark brown with a foamy dark khaki head that settles to an oily film on top of the beer. Foamy streaks of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of dark roasted malt, cocoa, and some dark fruit aromas. There is also a vanilla and molasses aroma that comes out as the beer warms. Taste is much the same with a slight tartness and a mild roasty bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is a pretty average beer that smells better than it tastes in my opinion.

Enjoyed as part of a professional tasting. Thanks Gary.
The beer begins with a thinly colored and textured pour. Solid brown but with good clarity and carbonation- think colas. A timid head forms on the beer and disappears quite quickly. Doesn't show a lot of maltiness.
Sharp aromas of toast, cocoa, and acidity that burns the nose a bit. Lightly sulfery and smells of wet grains and cereal. Low on hop character and allows graininess to dominate the nose.
Flavors fare much the same. Caught somewhere between grainy and malty, the beer doesn't show the rich malt flavor that the style demands. Grain astringency takes the place of hops for bitterness and bite. Still, a persistant acidity puts the nail in the coffin. Very distracting taste and feel.
A pretty weak Porter in the end. Too much grain character and not enough malt. Could use better yeast character for fruitiness or smoothness. Ooh, and don't forget the needed hops.

Deep brown color, invaded by streaks of reddish tints peeking through, slight, nop, non-existent head...I look away for a second and it's gone...
Aroma is port wine, plus cherry brandy, mix with rubbing alcohol... a little syrupy, some maple, sugar, huge dark rum character..soy sauce...not what I look for in a porter, but interesting...
Taste: spritzy, carbonated, Big Time, cola-ish, cocoa-tinged, but largely painted by a brush that never really met the true porter style. Flat, dry, and rigorously ordinary... this is a porter of the lowest rung. Too sweet, too coy, not enough spark...and too much so for the style, indeed.
A dud. Just a little bit tasty, but doesn't compare to even what we expect from even the most average of porters.

The beer pours a deep dark brown color with a thick frothy tan head that slowly fades to lacing. The aroma is average. It has a very dry and musty scent that boasts of pale and patent malts. There is no hop aroma at all. The taste is average also. It has a very bland black patent malt flavor along with a dry and musty finish. The mouthfeel is decent. It is a full bodied beer with good carbonation. This is an awful beer. The aroma and flavor are horrible. This is a real disappointment.

A: The beer is very dark amber (near black) in color and has a light amount of visible carbonation. It poured with a thin creamy tan head that quickly died down but never completely faded away.
S: There are light aromas of chocolate and roasted malts in the nose.
T: The taste is similar to the smell but the flavors are a bit stronger. There are some hints of bitterness in the finish.
M: It feels light-bodied and somewhat thin and watery on the palate with a low to moderate amount of carbonation.
D: Drinking this beer is a breeze and the low alcohol content makes it very sessionable. It's a good selection if you are looking for a beer that's not filling yet is quite flavorful.

A - Poured out a dark black color with a two finger, light brown color with a thick, foamy head. It left minimal lace.
S - It smelled roasty with notes of chocolate, caramel, toffee and coffee.
T - This porter has a strong roasted malt flavor with a good dose of dark chocolate and sweet caramel. There is a very mild coffee taste, too.
M - It was fairly crisp and smooth. A medium bodied porter that is very sessionable.
D - So far this is the best Yuengling product that I have had. It is a good porter at a great price.

Poured from a 12oz bottle into a US tumbler pint glass.
A: The beer is a deep dark reddish brown color with a short off-white head that fades slowly and leaves a very thick lace on the glass.
S: The aroma is of dark roasted malts, coffee, caramel and maple with a touch of hops.
T: The taste is malty with flavors of black coffee, dark fruit, caramel and maple, but for all of the robustness you get in the smell, the taste seems kind of bland. There's a mild hops presence that brings little balance. The after-taste is slightly sweet.
M: Smooth and a little crisp, medium body, medium carbonation, finish is slightly sticky.
D: A little tasty, goes down ok, not too filling, mild kick, decent representation of style, it's not too bad but there are definitely several other porters that I would choose over this one.

There isn't really too much of a difference between this and the Black & Tan. Personally I'd pick the Black & Tan, I'm not really sure why but I would. This beer pours out as a fairly rich looking porter. The color is a very dark brown with a tan head. The aroma is also roasted and tasty for the most part. The mouthfeel isn't bad either, It's got a medium body to it and not overly thick for a porter style.

Pours a dark brown color with a 1" tan head. Aroma is very faint, but some caramel and bitter chocolate can be found. The flavors come across as mellow but nicely balanced. Bitter chocolate, espresso and some caramel are there with a touch of bitterness. Probably a representation of a typical porter enjoyed by our grandparents - not overly meaty but a lighter brew with roasted tones.
Mouthfeel is thin and smooth on the tongue. Dry finish. Decent drinkability. This brew is a light bodied and mellower flavored porter, so don't expect your tatesbuds to be blown away with this.

Pours dark brown with ruby highlights. The thick, foamy head quickly descends to leave a thin cover.
The smell is of mild roasted grains with hints of coffee and chocolate.
The taste is of sweet dark malt with just a touch ofroasted grains. A vague bitterness balances out the sweetness. Plenty of, almost too much, carbonation gives it an airy character. The taste, however, is fleeting and leaves an undesirable aftertaste.
The feel is fizzy and watery thin. It falls apart when going down.
Well, it's only $5 a 6-pack (still), but it's better to spend a couple bucks more (at most) and get a better porter. It's rather unexciting and the aftertaste and feel do nothing for it.

A 12 oz twist off bottle from America's oldest brewery.
A: The porter has since settled down but it initially poured with a thick 1.5 finger foamy head. The billowy bubbles has long since receded. The porter's body is dark, almost brown but looks are deceiving. The color is much more of a ruby red color, brilliant especially as light shines through.
S: The nose is roasted, dark with caramel sweet grain notes. There are no hops anywhere within the aroma.
T: Chocolate and caramel malts dominate and define the beer. Both darker malts create a dry, toasted sweet flavor. As the sweeter flavors fade, some graininess emerges that seems raw and unrefined, detracting from the darker sweetness.
M: The sweetness is far more reminiscent of a Baltic porter than an American one. Regardless of styles, this beer has a solid taste and leaves the tastebuds contented.
D: This is a solid session beer, a great choice for a longer session. This is also 1/2 of Yuengling's Black & Tan.

To be perfect honest, I never thought this beer would be as good as it was a year ago when I first really started drinking different beers. However, the Yuengling porter comes through as one of the best overall basic good drinkable porters I have come by. It pours a very dark ruby amber with a beige moccha colored foaming head with little or no lace. Contains a deep roasted barley aroma with hints of chocolate and some rather mild coffe-esque fragances. The flavors are a great combination of smoothy creamy dark roasted barley wrapped with chocolate and strong coffe tones, very nicely balanced overall crisp drinkable taste. A fuller creamy mouthfeel that I enjoyed fully, and this beer is so smooth and drinkable and maybe just a tad lighter in body than the typical porter. Still, I am glad Yuengling is upkeeping this fine brew.

Ruby mahogany color where a touch of light makes it through. The beige head is small but it leaves some streaky lace after each sip.
Mild aroma of chalk, malted milk balls and semi-sweet chocolate.
The flavor is of darker malts, but the body is thin. No complexity. Very light hop to give a touch of pepper. The finish has a brief sour touch to it. No hits, no runs, no errors.

Pours with a four-finger tan head that fades slowly leaving an even lace. Black - totally opaque. Good carbonation, heavy bodied. Nose is a smokey roast. Starts with a roasted sweetness and but finishes with a slight bitter aftertaste. $3.59 for a 12 oz bottle found at Mr. Dunderbak's, Crabtree Mall, Raleigh, NC.

(Served in an American pint glass)
A- This beer has an opaque dark brown body with a light beige heat that last for a good bit. The body is too dense to see any carbonation and I am pleasantly surprised at the opaqueness of the body.
S- This beer has a soft aroma of dark roasted malt with a slight nougat note. The dark malt smells more like a little black roasted malt than lots of toasted malt.
T- This beer has a very tangy dark malt note with a light pt caramel hint and a very faint almost alder smoke to it. There was some soft coffee bitterness in the finishi
M- This beer has a medium mouthfeel with a fizzy finish that lightens it up even more.
D-This beer has some pretty light flavors for as dark as the body is when I first poured it. It taste like this beer has been lagered a bit because I don't get the depth of flavor that a porter typically has although it did have a few dark malt hints.

I used to be able to find this on draft from time to time but I haven't seen it on draft in years. It was actually well done from the keg if I remember correctly.
Appears a dark brownish black with a small tan head that fizzles away quickly. Not a whole lot of lacing going on in there either.
Smell is of light caramel, chocolate, and coffee aromas with a slight burnt aroma.
Taste is ok. A tad thinner than I remember. Mild chocolate and caramel malts with a slight fruitiness seem to stand out amongst the average mix.
Mouthfeel is slighly watery but is still medium bodied. A bit fizzy and over carbonated in the mouth draws the burnt sweetness to a halt.
It's ok, dog.

Sampled through ClockworkOrange and CA - PA BIF.
Clear very dark brown colored beer that I can barely pass light through. One inch light brown head that falls to a mat of bubbles.
Smell is strongly of chocolate and wheat bread. Sweet with a chocolate candy smell. Little bit of coffee but a lot of toasted grain scent.
The taste starts out dry and spritzy with a bakers chocolate aroma, sort of like a chocolate flavored soda. Bitter roast comes on strongly but this quickly becomes a coffee soda. There is a little sour taste here that tastes like chocolate malt. Little bit of caramel taste after a while but this is not a sweet beer.
Mouthfeel is light.
An OK beer but I don't think I would seek it out again. It just seems to be a bit light to me.

This one poured dark brown with a thin, tan cap that was kind of short lived. There was a cola sweetness in the aroma, along with notes of dry cocoa and roast/burnt malt. Mild bitterness, hints of chocolate, dark grain, malt sweetness and faint fruit/cherry. Light bodied with moderate carbonation, some dryness. A decent beer and a serviceable porter.

This produced a big, deep brown head that disappeared as quickly as i could pour it into a glass. It was very black in color with little to no carbonation in evidence. I smelled licorice faintly on the nose. The mouthfeel was somewhat thin, especially for the style. The finish was also light, which is not really what I want in a porter. I tasted (faintly) licorice on the finish, which was kind of neat.
