Got this at a block party, on tap into a plastic cup. This so far has been my favorite offering by Yeungling. As in their other beers it's far from perfect but it's adeep dark brew, not much going on in the smell, but some malt, same with the taste had an odd bite to it, nothing really off or unpleasant. I like darker beers, even on a hot day and this hit the spot though. Average, not to style IMO but plenty drinkable.

On tap at Goodnight Irene's in North Wildwood...
Appears a transparent, copper toned amber with a small, off white head that leaves whispey traces of lacing left around the glass.
Smell is of sourdough bread, caramel, toffee, toasted nuts, and molasses.
Taste is of the mentioned aromas...dare I say, "too much sourdough tartness?" It reminds me a bit of an Oktoberfest that has had some lactic acid blended before bottling.
Mouthfeel is medium bodied, creamy, sweet, a bit tart.
I actually like the idea of Yuengling doing a seasonal selection. It's much overdue. I think this one was a bit off kilter but I think there is a good chance that improvements could be made with this one. I also like the/my idea of a possible "Festbier" from the folks at Yuengling. I believe they could capitalize on that one during the Fall season with their signature lager yeast.

Served from tap into a standard pint glass.

A: dark brown, tan colored head, a little lacing

S: faint malt aroma. not much else stands out

T: malty and bready. slightly sweet. hop bitterness is masked by the malt character.

MF: medium bodied, moderate carbonation

Drinkability: this beer is decent. nothing unique about it, just a standard, everyday bock.

A - A clear dark brown body...lots of carbonation running to the top...a solid one finger tan head...decent lacing

S - Nothing special...a little malty

T - This bock is strong on the caramel malts...and I like it...they are too sweet and they aren't heavily roasted...nothing complex

M - Medium bodied...just a tad thin

D - It's nice to try something new from Yuengling...I'm glad they came out with this Bock...nothing special but it was pretty tasty

Baby growler fill of this kid bock over at New Beer. Poured into a generic tumbler.

Lots of activity. Bottom up, it has as much activity as a glass of Coke. Tawny in color, with a quarter inch of thinning-out fizz.

Smell is a little weird at first. A little vegetable-y with a convincing whiff of sour cream. The end of it gets a little cola, but just not enough. Warming up, more of a numbing/spicy bitterness that's all too out of place.

Carbonation is great, but it's simply just cutting through water. Taste is of light wheat bread, in second place: charred malt, a much lesser amount of mixed vegetables, with mineral runoff & bitter tea on the somewhat lingering finish.

There's a desperate need of alcohol here, as it tastes a good bit like Goya Malta, or some other similar travesty. No phenols, no doughy feel, very noticeable corners cut. A very piss poor attempt. :|

a: nice off white/tan color head, crystal clear brown body with red hues, nicely carbonated

s: malt up front, with adjuncts in background, smells like corn, and little grassy

t: nice flavor, caramel notes are present and little butter, but not very deep or complex

m: light feel, smooth with some richness but not enough

d: very drinkable, great session bock

presented with a dark brown slightly copper pint with a big light tan head that faded quickly to a film but left some small lacing
smell was very light and hard to pick up anything more than a bit of malt
taste was slightly malty with a burnt cereal grain background and finished with a surprising light German hop presence
mouthfeel was light to medium, very balanced
drinkability was good sessionable but the hop tasting burp got a bit tiring

On tap at Coopers in Scranton at the front bar. Presented in a shaker "pint" glass, this bock appears a clear, rich deep chestnut color with about half an inch of creamy light tan foam. Smells and tastes of sweet caramelized malt, biscuits, and a hint of molasses and an even smaller hint of brown sugar. This beer is all about the malt. Medium in both body and carbonation. It's nice to try something new from Yuengling. I'm sure I'll be seeing plenty of this around, and that's a good thing. Especially at a place with limited choices.

Yuengling- Bock

On tap at the Hulmeville Inn.

A- Deep cola brown with a small soapy head. Light lacing.
S- Light caramelized malt, molasses, and borwn sugar.
T- Sweet brown sugar, molasses, and malt make up the bulk with a light cola corn syrup touch.
M- Sweet and malty strong molasses finish.

Overall- A bit light on the flavors but well balanced and definitely sessionable. I would say this is better than their lager!

A-Clear, deep copper with a thin tan head that hung on well that left decent lace.

S-Sweet caramel and biscuit malt with maybe just the slightest hint of turbinado. A very mild aroma overall.

T-Sweet caramel and biscuit malt with a nice touch of ending bitterness. Nothing crazy for sure....but simple and easy going.

M-Medium-light bodied and very smooth with a mild lingering sweetness.

D-Hey, a "new" beer from Yuengling! While this one wont blow you away it certainly has enough flavour and smoothness to make it worthy of a pint or two, The price point is right to make it even more interesting...a decent beer for the price.

On tap at Brass Rail Deli on 4/6/09.

A - Clear deep amber/copper-colored body with minimal carbonation and one-finger creamy beige head that settled to a thin ring of retention and left a decent amount of lace around the glass.

S - Sweet caramel malt and light bready notes with a hint of brown sugar and molasses. Not much of a hop presence at all. Pretty muted aroma overall.

T - Sweet and malty with caramel and bready notes. A grainy malt character emerges in the backend that segues into a slight earthy bitter aspect in the finish.

M - Medium body with moderate carbonation and a light syrupy texture. Mouthfeel is a bit watery overall with a mild chewiness. Finishes sweet on the palate with a very subtle hop bitterness.

D - Decent enough bock and a good, inexpensive session beer with enough flavor to warrant more than one in a single sitting. It's nice to see something other than Lager on tap at the local establishments.

Had this on tap at a bar in Edinboro, PA.

From what I can remember, it had a dark brown/amber color, very thin head, minimal lacing.

Its smell was weak but good. Light fruit, malts and that general grain-Yuengling smell.

Its taste was pretty decent. Malt character up front with a slight bite of hops in the finish. A very "clean" tasting beer with a good balance. Still, not a POWERFUL flavor, but a good flavor nonetheless.

Mouthfeel - Very clean and crisp. Smooth at first, but it goes right down.

Very high drinkability. This is a "good beer for the masses." It'll be hard to NOT like it. Crowd-pleaser.

On tap in a pint glass.

A- Yuengling bock had an off white head that faded by the time I sat down. Dark chustnut brown color with no lacing.

S- Smells like a yuengling with more toasted malts added giving off semi caramel scent. Really nothing else to add here

T- I never said this in a review but it tastes like it smells, which basically is a slightly ramped up yuengling with a more bready quality. Any hops that may have been added are drowned out by the caramel taste.

M- Light bodied with light carbonation and almost water like but not quite. This area could use work.

D- 5.10% is low but I would only go for two before moving on. Either way it's a nice to have a alternative to the regular yuengling when your at a average run of the mill bar. There is a place for this but could use some more ABV for the style and a bigger body.

On tap at Mr. Beerys in Bethpage, NY.

Poured a medium amber hue with a one finger foamy white head. There was good retention and lacing.

The smell featured a subtly sweet malt and a spicy herbal hop.

The taste consisted of an upfront spicy, almost citric hop, followed by a very nice moderate malt. Very well balanced.

The mouthfeel was toward the cleaner side of the style.

Overall a very tasty and well made bock. Bravo. I look forward to many more of these.

A. Poured ontap. The tap handle had an old school Yuengling logo and a goatshead, which is traditionally associated with the bock style. Fluffy pillowy off white head on a brownish malty looking body.

S. Smell is of malts and is inviting but not really strong, I was outside though.

T. Where have you been all my life, BockBier? This is great. Toasted malt sweetness, a bit sugary and bready. Just a touch of hops to balance. Nothing out of place. This is a beer you can live off of.

M. Full bodied and very smooth drinking.

D. Yuengling dials in a winner here. Excellent brew, and better than the rest of the Yuengling line, which is not too shabby. Would buy cases of this.

On-tap at Liberty St. Tavern for $3. Paired it with the mac & cheese pizza. Yum.

Frankly I'm not surprised, but this turned out to be a very bland beer. It was clean both in that there were clearly no flaws, but that the flavor profile is similar to that of water. There is a pleasant kiss of spicy hops in the aftertaste, but consider that's all my tongue could pick up, the hops are really the only taste. The beer reminds me a bit of bland "spring ales" or a watery copper ale.

I had this at Manny Brown's in Newtown ( I believe the mailing address is considered Langhorne)
Anyway poured a clear amberish red color with very thick white heading very unlikely for a Yuengling.

Smell had very nice roasted malt smells to it very subtle. Maybe a touch of hops on the backend nothing serious.

Taste is all malt nothing overwhelming just an all around decently balanced taste.

Mouthfeel is very smooth,wet, and thick,lightly carbonated nothing really jumping out at me and goes down really easy.

This is a very good session beer. Unlike the Lager this is unlike any of the Yuengling's I've had in the past.You can easily have a six pack and not have a bad taste.

Had this on tap while waiting to get into a movie on Friday. Was disappointed in my decision to try this brew (tap list included many great craft selections)

The beer was deep brown, with a reddish hue. Thick 1" white head. Tough to get any sort of aroma on this one, certainly nothing stands out.

Taste is more of the same, very unoffensive beer, but nothing shines either. Light toasted malt flavor, but light is the keyword here. No real hop presence, but in a bock, the malts should definitely stand out more than they do here. This beer reminds me of brewing in the macro style - don't do anything to turn off the masses.

Mouthfeel was medium body with only a little more presence than Yuengling's lager offering. Drinkability is good, a few of these would go down easy, not sure that I'd stick with this one however.

I was able to give this brew a try last evening while at Mahars. Had a darker amber color to it with some reddish highlights, good sized head that had nice long retention and lacing. The aromas where good, they highlighted a nice roasted and caramel scent. The flavor brought this beer up a notch as I felt that the malts where better here than even the profile from the nose. Also a nice hop flavor presence is there, muted in the background but plays nicely. Overall this is a very good brew, I would have to say by far the best that I have had from Yuengling and hope that this will not just be a one and done style from them.

Had a draft at Max's Tuesday the 3rd. This was not an impressive beer. Not much of a nose and the flavor was fair with little finish. It does go down pretty easy, though. It's hard to believe that it's a blend of two decent beers, the Chesterfield and the Porter, according to Don Russell. It would seem like more Chet than Porter; maybe 2 to 1. I have the feeling that this will go better with the regular Lager crowd.

Enjoyed this on draught at the 12th Street Taphouse in Charlottesville.

A: Deep amber, more bronzish with a red hue. Head is about a finger tall in a 20 oz. pint glass, with good retention, but rather light lacing

S: Some nice toasted malts, rather light, but easily approachable. There's almost a 'sap-like' scent that comes out as it warms which provides a good dynamic to the aroma.

T: Sweet maltiness, and a bit of a syrupy hint to it which does it well. A light bitterness, just right for the flavour intensity.

M + D: Moderate carbonation over a medium body... it's got a little bit of 'delayed weightiness' towards the finish. All in all, a pretyh tasty and easy going beer. I'm quite pleased with this, and have to give kudos to Yuengling. Worth checking out.

I had the pleasure of trying Yuengling Bock on-tap at local Chambersburg watering hole The Cottage.

The draft was served in a "true" pint; the beer was darker than expected and not very foamy. The dark, murky beer was an unexpected surprise from Yuengling.

The beer was thick and malty, like any good bock, and had a very strong caramel flavor. It was smooth and didn't seem anything like a typical Yuengling; it had depth and character. I hope that folks who enjoy the Yuengling Lager will try it and discover the bock style in the way its meant to be enjoyed.

The last quarter of my pint was a bit heavy but I was drinking lighter beer earlier in the evening. All of the guests at my table tried a pint, and many ordered a second (and a third). It seemed to be universally enjoyable.

A recommended try on a new style from an established brewer; America's oldest. Chalk this one up along with Yuengling's other under-rated styles: Black & Tan and Porter.
