Appearance: Pours a brown-hazelnut; little head, what is there is thin and filmy; beer is clear and sparkly, with dark amber- reddish hints; lacing left on surface of beer is minimal but slightly sticky on the inside of the pint glass.

Smell: At first, nutty with roasted malt elements; subtle spiciness and a crisp hop aroma also present; toasted marshmallow and mild sweetness on the back end.

Taste: Similar if not same as smell; malt, floral hoppiness with spicy undertones.

Mouthfeel: Smooth, slightly crisp from carbonation; overall, a good mouthfeel.

Drinkability: Very, very, drinkable; have now finished three in about 25 minutes, and could easily drink more.

Poured from a 12 oz bottle into a nonic glass.

Appearance: Pours a hazlenut tawny brown color with a very small thin head. Crystal clear with reddish hues. Zero lacing and the head dissapated to a thin film and collar around the glass.

Smell: Smells a bit nutty and malty. A hint of spiciness and a crisp hoppy backnote. A hint of toasted marshmallow and mild sweetness on the back end.

Taste: Tastes malty and spicy with floral hop bit on the back end that just balances out the sweetness enough. very light and ephervescant. Very light on the palate and a good example of a light bock.

Mouthfeel: A little over carbonated and light for my palate. Crisp finish and overall its enjoyable.

Drinkability: Very high drinkability: medium malt background and a light crisp finish paired with a low abv makes this a great session beer.

Not ever much of a darker beer drinker, myself, but I'd wanted to find a dark beer I would be able to enjoy during the fall/winter season. So, I had heard about the limited release (first time ever bottled) of this beer from friends and decided to give it a go.
Maybe my taste buds just were overpowered by the many other dark beers I'd tried in the past. Straight up, I was pleasantly surprised that I really enjoyed this beer from start to finish. I wouldn't try to predict how those committed dark beer aficionados may or may not appreciate Yuengling's Bock, but from the standpoint of a now casual/seasonal dark drinker, this one may fit the bill for drinkers who were previously turned off by darker beers. The major challenge for me now, someone please correct me if I'm wrong, is that it's limited release is only for a few more weeks, then it won't be available again until next January.

Presented with a funky retro label featuring a ram sipping on some beer - with the precaution that it "tastes good."

A - Pours a dark brown copper with an off-white head that settles quickly. Decent retention with some nice lacing.

S - Smell is interesting - there's something there that is very familiar but I can't quite place. A bit of roasted and caramel malt with some bready undertones.

T - Taste is interesting as well - that same flavor that I can't quite place, followed by the caramel malt and some hop bitterness. Biscuity and roasted. Unique, and it's growing on me.

M - Mouthfeel is good. Decent carbonation, light to medium body.

D - Good. Easy drinking, overall.

This is a little hoppier than most bocks, but I certainly wouldn't say it was a hoppy beer. An interesting roasted flavor makes it worth trying, but it's not exactly outstanding by any means.

Pours a dark copper color, or maybe more of a light brown, with an inch of light tan head. Keeps a pretty full but thin lace and leaves a couple rings of stick on the sides.

Smell is pretty grainy but has some caramel in there, with a bready quality to it.

Taste is also pretty grainy with a bit of caramel but it has an astringent bite to it that is somewhat unpleasant. It's a husky, bitter sort of flavor. It also lingers into the finish.

Mouthfeel is a light-medium body and it feels thin. A bit on the watery side and the astringency doesn't help.

This is a mediocre bock at best, and I would actually classify it as a disappointment. Yuengling makes quality beer at a great pricepoint, and I buy Lager and Black and Tan with some regularity, but this one comes up a bit short. There are much better bocks out there even at this pricepoint - Stegmaier for example is quite a bit better.

I poured this pretty average brew into my glass at 45 degrees. The beer was a mahogany color and had a dirty white head. The smell was not hoppy but the taste was slightly. It did not taste much like a bock to me. It also had jut a wee bit of a metallic taste to it that was not very good.
I will not buy again.

deep auburn color with a non existent head and minimal lacing,
metallic hint, some bready malts with now hops present.
Taste is not as malty as expected. Thin in the mouth. Some metallic characteristics as well.

A crazy little beer that neither fits its style or any style for that matter, but is a pleasure to drink regardless of its class.

A sweet caramel, malt, and toffee aroma and flavor carries with it a bit of toast or light roast. Smooth malty mouthfeel is a pleasant welcome. American hops give some citrus (grapefruit, pine, and grass) give the beer a pro-bitter balance, pale ale flavor. Both type and intensity is not common for Bocks, neither is the roast. But the beer is flavorful and bold with good textures and an overall favorable beer drinking experience. Maybe an Amber Ale is a better descriptor.

Poured into my pint glass, a clear dark reddish copper with two fingers worth of light tan head.

Not a very strong scent. Smells like bready malt and some faint hop.

Tastes sweet then chocolate like, almost smokey with grassy hops from a Lord Chesterfield in the back. Doesn't linger much. A little dryness.

A medium slick feeling, and pretty fizzy. fairly drinkable.

I wanted more malt, but then, I always want more malt. This one is solid, and a great change of pace from the usual rotation of Yuengling brews. I hope they start doing more seasonal brews.

I was excited to see this new offering from Yuengling, whose traditional Lager I love.

Appearance - Poured into a Pint-sized beer glass produces a modest head that eventually dissipates. Laces nicely, more heavily than the traditional Lager. Lighter than cola in color.

Smell - Herbed caramel, present but not overpowering.

Taste - Perhaps more strongly hopped than most bocks, which traditionally are not strongly hopped. Pleasantly light malt flavor that is closest to maple and slightly cocoa. Taste lingers in mouth.

Pours a filtered clear dark amber with a slightly off white head that leave some lacing. Aromas are typical of a lager: apple along with some dark fruit character from the caramel malts. The taste is bready up front with a slight herbal hop balance but dies a bit in the finish. The mouthfeel is not what I expect from a bock, but it is still decent for what it is. All in all nothing is surprising about this beer, but it is still a solid brew.

A very good American Bock from a consistently good regional brewery. I used to enjoy the bock beers that most big American breweries made years ago (Pabst Bock was one that I looked forward to every year until the formula changed in the late 70's...after which the beer disappeared altogether).

Yuengling Bock is reminiscent of those beers and is a really fine example of the style. Very tasty and drinkable....and quite flavorful without massive alcohol or a total assault of the tastebuds. Very retro, like it's great packaging, this has a balance that a lot of contemporary beers sadly lack.
VERY glad to see this one back after so many years!

12 oz bottle poured into reaper pilsner glass

A: Pours a fairly clear copper brown color with two and a half fingers of light brown head that dissipates rather quickly with no lacing

S: A lot of malt smell with some syrupy sweet notes and also a bit of a metallic smell behind it as well

T: Toasty, biscuity malt backed with some kind of dark fruit undertones. Theres also a bit of that yuengling funk that you find in their lager as well. A little hop bitterness comes in after this with a little bit of a metallic taste at the end.

M: A medium mouthfeel with quite a bit of carbonation. Finishes rather dry

D: Not overly heavy, this is probably something I could drink all night. Not the best beer ive ever tasted, but its fairly good overall.

Overall, this is a good offering from yuengling. Definitely better than their traditional lager this is not the best beer ive ever had but it is definitely enjoyable and easy to drink

A: Pours a medium copper-brown color with decent clarity. The tall head has a light tan tint and a densely frothy texture. Retention is pretty good, with solid lacing.

S: Some toasty grain and caramel in the nose. An interesting slightly tart fruitiness - kind of a raisin/cherry vibe. A bit of leafy hop aroma is also present.

T: Toasty, bready malt up front, with caramel flavors. Definitely a bit fruity, again with faintly tart cherry/raisin notes. Bitterness is moderate, with some leafy/spicy flavors providing a lightly hoppy finish. A bit of a metallic/mineral character is evident into the finish.

M: Medium body. Carbonation is above average. The finish is slightly off balance in its dryness, but it's a minor issue.

D: I'm fairly impressed by this offering from Yuengling. I was a little concerned this would just be a darker version of their traditional lager, but this has a little character.

Yuengling Bock pours a dark clear brown with a tan head from a brown twelve ounce bottle. There's a malty aroma that's fairly nice. THe flavor is malty at first, then some hops and grain flavors come to the surface. A decent beer, but really nothing special.

Pours a brown amber color, has a nice head initially, then fades to no head no lace.

The brew smells of malts and hops; sweet malts, grain hops.

Has a light thin mouthfeel, tastes nice and pleasant to drink. Has a smooth finish. Can taste more hop then malt.

Pours reddish/copperish dark amber with a thin head that becomes wispy. Minimal dotted lacing slides down the glass.

The smell is grainy with toffee - slight hint towards chocolate, with an underlying bready and cherry-ish fruity character.

The taste is of caramel/toffee and grainy with bready and cherry-like fruitiness. Sweetish, but not too, with a minerally finish.

It has a medium body with medium, yet sharp (a bit too) carbonation.

An easy-drinking bock with a nice character and relatively mild abv for style.

Pours a dark translucent mahogany with a decent beige head. What I got was not thick, but that is probably an artifact of preparing the pint. Aroma is malty and slightly spicy, not too strong. Flavor is rich, malty and yeasty with woody and toffee hints. Fizzy and lively texture leaves a nice tingle behind.

a: This was a dark, sparkling chestnut brown color. It poured with a thick, chunky head that faded to sheets of lace.

s: Wow, there is a lot going on here. I wasn't expecting anything like this! Sweet breadiness takes a back seat to the surprisingly assertive noble, spicy hop aromas.

t: This was incredibly fresh tasting overall. Those spicy, almost mineraly, noble hops almost dominate. Some sweet bread flavors do sneak through on occasion. The finishing hop tingle lingers for a long time.

m: Gently fizzy carbonation and that long aftertaste work very well.

d: I'm absolutely stunned by how good this is. I'm definitely getting more of this.

A- Dark brown with an off white head

S- The aroma is kind of funky, very sweet and malty

T- Sweet with a hint of the caramel malts

M- Medium-Light Bodied, a little thinker than their Lager

D- Highly drinkable

I've only had this brew once, I'm not sure how much it cost. If it's the same price as Traditional Lager I would pick up a case. Not the most impressive dark lager but not bad. Decent for a macro brew.

Appearance- amber brown with crisp clarity, a white foam head the almost immediately quickly disappeared leaving fading bubbles up on top,

Smell- unique smell on this beer, a mix of a spicy kind of odor and malt, almost has some sort of sour smell to it, hmm weird

Taste- strong taste of hops and very slight malt flavor in the background, surprised for a yuengling beer at the amount of hops you get in the finish on this beer, there is still something strange about the flavor of this beer that I can not say I really love,

Mouthfeel- light with moderate carbonation

Drinkability- I will have to try this again but I have to say as of now I found this particular bottle to be pretty much down right bad, didnt taste like anything i would have expected for the style of a bock, just missed the mark on all points and I usually find yuengling stuff to be a nice deal, hmm give another try but not good
