12 oz bottle poured into the Bock Beer pils/flute, Yuengling Bock is a pale mahogany with a small off-white head leaving light lace.

Smell is sweet, a little caramel, nice fresh bread

Taste is nicely balanced, not as sweet as I expected, nice hop bitterness to temper without tipping to far in the other direction.

Mouthfeel light, dry.

Drinkability is good, tasty bock, full flavor but light and balanced enough to enjoy on a brisk spring day working the yard, or in my case, after.

Pours medium clear brown with a white head. Some lace, and ring of foam to the end.

Light malt nose, some sweetness. Wanted more here.

Light sweet malt, some grassy notes. Not as much depth as some bocks. Nice semi sweet malt finish with light bitterness.

A little thin, but it actually works. Good carbonation.

Decent for domestic bock. I'd have this again.

Poured into a tulip shaped pint glass, color is dark amber with a light tan head.

Smell is caramely but not too sweet, pretty flat in flavor and bland.

taste is better than scent, pretty decent bock style attempt, light caramel flavors hop bitterness is there but nothing coming through in flavor or scent.

Mouthfeel is a little sharp from the carbonation, but its tasty and I think the the addition of some more caramel malt than traditional lager helps this out.

Overall, pretty easy drinking, but still lingers in flavor pretty close to lager except for some mild caramel malt tones. I'll take this over lager but would like to see a version with a hop presence to chesterfield

Two finger offwhite head from a pour that was probably a little aggressive. Body is a clear red-brown. Some lace.

Initially I didn't like the smell, but actually it's not bad. Some malt (if a bit syrupy)-- slightly tangy.

Surprisingly hop-forward for a bock (though not hoppy overall) with a bitter, not quite metallic aftertaste that has some citrus that I really don't think belongs in a bock. The hops tend towards the piney side, also off for a German style. If I reconsider the beer as a lightly hopped American red ale, it starts to make more sense. This is actually a bit better than I remember it. Kinda typical of Yuengling brews, not great, but by no means bad. The malt used tastes kinda light.

Mouthfeel is pretty smooth, but carbonation is a bit too present and starts to cut into the flavor.

Decent for the price, but probably not something I'd seek out again.

Served from a bottle into a pint glass

Appearance: Earthy brown, with one finger of beige head that quickly dissipated. Light lacing while drinking.

Aroma: Good, but faint. Sweet malt and mild hops.

Taste: Sweet malts up front, with moderate hoppyness throughout. Nothing great, and left my mouth feeling dirty after drinking two of them.

Mouthfeel: Leans toward the lighter, smoother side, despite the hops.

Viking's Verdict: Yuengling's bock doesn't offer enough for me to keep coming back to. Everything - taste, smell, is pretty much mediocre, and it's real saving grace will be it's lower price.

12oz bottle poured into a pint glass.

Pours with a clear reddish brown body and a 1.5 finger off white head. Surprisingly decent head retention.

Smells of molasses and brown sugar and some caramel. A little hint of tobacco too.

Taste is much like the smell with a very candied, surypy flavor although it isn't actually real sweet. There is a little bit of roast leading to a very light bitterness. Mouthfeel is a little watery but is is quite refreshing.

Overall, this might not be the perfect example of a bock but it has good flavor and is quite refreshing. One of the better values out there.

Chill-hazed copper in color, with a nice, two-inch bone-white head of foam.
Aroma-Flowery, sweet malt
Taste-Watered-down sweet malt,faintly metallic finish. Taste did not match the looks or smell of this beer. Many better bock beers out there.

The color is a sort of mahogany, ruby red hues in a medium brown, clean and clear and barely dark enough to be very slightly opaque. The off-white head is about half a finger tall and spritzy but retention isn't bad. Lacing is spotty and consistent.
It's balanced like a Bock, pretty even between hops and malts. The primary balance is between caramel and toffee from the hops with a bit of raw fruits and floral with mildly leafy hops bitterness. It's light overall, keeping with Yuengling's status as gateway craft.
The feel is light as well, not quite the appropriate medium body or so of the style. Carbonation is moderate, lending itself to a continuous crispness and contributing to a good smoothness.
This isn't a bad Bock by any means.

An interesting concept to bring an age-old beer back onto the taps of Pennsylvania.

When poured it looks like a very dark, reddish amber beer. You definitely know that its a Yuengling by the tint of the beer and the smell. It has a very sweet smell, roasted nut, with a little bit of dark fruit in there. There seems to be a hint of molasses.

Taste wise, it feels and tastes like a Yuengling. It has that dry, light feel with a not so sweet "bock" taste that I am accustomed to in European bocks. It tastes much more like their Black & Tan. It lacked the real roastiness of the finer bocks, and lacked some spicing. I'd say with time this one will sort itself out.

Pours a dark amber with a quarter of an inch of soft, off white head that fizzles away after a few seconds. The nose offers some faint caramel, some yeast, and some mild adjuncts. The flavor is caramelly up front with some very faint apple notes and finishes with some faint, bitter hops. The mouthfeel is a little too crisp for me, but has a medium body and is smooth.

This has good balance and is drinkable and enjoyable, but ultimately it doesn't have as much flavor or complexity as some other bocks out there.

Appearance: Pours brown like Coca-Cola with a nice thick tan head that has good lacing. It's hard to see the carbonation in the dark brew.

Smell: Very faint but I think it smells like plums, sweet and fruity. Toasted malt. I smell a little hops also.

Taste: Starts out malty sweet, but not too sweet, just right. Then it turns a little hoppy with a hint of metal. Throughout there's kind of a wood (cedar/redwood) taste that's good.

Mouthfeel: light bodied, good carbonation, nice bite.

This beer is easy to enjoy. Although thirst quenching, it has nice and assertive character.

Review from notes. So there I am in the store with a 12 of Genesee Bock beer under my arm, looking for something else at the top of the food chain when I see Yuengling's Bock beer in a sixer, what, in Ohio before their porter? I took a flier on it, give Genny's lil goat a run for the $$$, Pepsi challenge style fight between the two. Poured a dark amber with little head into dimpled mug. Smells of malt and hops. Slightly bitter taste from the hops in the front that is quickly evened and sweetened up by the maltiness and then finishes rather cleanly with good mix of hop, malt and carbonation. Much like Genny a good bock that's reasonably priced, though this has a bit of hop presence to it. Much like their Black & Tan, this too seems like a bit of a mix of their lager with it's mild malt and the slight hop bite of their Lord Chesterfield Ale. Overall, very good for a decent price as far as bock goes.

I am not sure if I am drinking a bad bock or a bad Yuengling lager. Not good. The goat...this is it. Outside of the inventive labeling there is nothing good going on here. I am actually very surprised they rolled this out as the first seasonal in Ohio. I would not want to buy another seasonal if I did not have a general respect for Yuengling as is. I will chalk this one up as a bad taste in an otherwise good brand. Sadly...a direct competitor to MGD.

Poured from bottle into pint glass

Appearance – Pours a light brown color with a white head. The head fades very fast leaving just the slightest bit of lacing.

Smell – Bready malt mixed with a bit of caramel. Nothing too potent, but not lacking either.

Taste – Bready sweetness of some roasted malts mixed in with a bit of caramel are the initial tastes present. These last through the taste experience, but fade in intensity as time progresses. Toward the very end of the taste there is an ever so light amount of bitterness which finishes off the sweet flavors and round out the taste quite nicely actually.

Mouthfeel – Moderate body and moderate carbonation. Very average. For the bock style it may have a bit too much carbonation; but really not too bad.

Overall – For the price, Yuengling comes though again. While not the best bock you will have, they make a pretty decent brew at a good price.

Bottle. No idea where or when I acquired this gem. Pours a clear, medium colored copper color with a thick fluffy light tan head. Vegetable mixed with caramel nose. Medium mouthfeel. The vegetable I smell and taste is tomato. I sorta has a stewed tomato taste...weird. The aroma and taste are not good but the look is awesome, great lacing and head retention just too bad the rest of this didn’t come together.

Not a bad beer, tastes pretty similar to Yuengling's other offerings. Smooth and refreshing. In my honest opinion it tastes identical to Black and Tan, maybe with a few little differences. It is definetely a refreshing beer and could possibly work as a session drinker. If I wasn't born and raised a PA Coal Crack I would probably not even review yuengling, but since I grew up with these guys I have no other choice than to let me pride show.

Pours a chocolate in color with about an inch of tan head and a bit of lacing. Smells slightly smoky, nutty, and malty.

Taste is malty and nutty, sim at to the smell. Finishes slightly bitter. Mouthfeel is good and well balanced. Overall, a decent brew. Nothing outstanding but it's solid.

Poured into my pilsner glass resulting in a good two finger head of dense foam and wonderful clinging lace. Some of the best lace I have seen in a long time. The color is a 29 in the SRM beer color chart. Smell is that of roasted barley, burnt corn husks, peat moss, rich coca, and dark brewed coffee. The initial taste is slightly sweet with a lingering of honey. Rich roasted barley follows and the finish is a tinge of hops. Mouthfeel is grand and full, lots of creamy coating and fullness. Overall it is a beer I would buy again, and drink while watching a good movie.

The color is a clear deep aged copper with a off white bubbly head building about one and a half fingers high. It dissipates fast and leaves some lacing on the glass.
The smell is a mild caramel and bread flavor. Not to much there.
Tasting the beer, up front there is a fruity character, like pea, mixed with a lot of malty flavors. In the middle there are some earthy hops, which bring grassy nutty notes into the beer. The finish is all caramel.
A medium to light bodied beer, very drinkable, but rather plain.

Picked this up in Totowa since I have never reviewed a beer from Yuengling on here. Of course, the bottle shows a goat drinking this beer, which means that it must be good enough for humans to drink, right?

Sure enough, it is...but that's still not saying much. Yes, it has the dark pour and thin mouthfeel that Bock's are known for. There were notes of caramel, nut, and pumpernickel here that faded into a slightly metallic and nutty backside that was just a bit hoppy. That's about all this beer offered. It wasn't perfectly clear as there was a bit of haze when this was held up to the light but this was so thin that the head and lacing were practically nowhere to be seen.

Session beers don't get much more obvious than this. There's a mild roasted presence to this with just a hint of alcohol in the taste but like the flagship beer in this brewer's lineup, this is mediocre at best. Only seek this out if you're desperate for a Bock and it's not the sign of the goat on your astrological calender.

12 oz twist off.

It pours a rootbeer brown/amber with a really gawky looking head.

Smells like water with some caramel and a smack of nuts.

Mouthfeel is really watery, taste is of metal. There is some sweetness too. It has an okay bitterness on the back end.

It doesn't taste like a bock though.

This is like a malt liquor.

I found individual bottles on sale for $2 apiece, so I figured it was worth giving this a try.

It's a pretty beer, with a dark orange-red color that almost appears to be brown. The aroma is interesting as I smell generic macro (OK, I admit Yuengling isn't a "macro" brewery) graininess but I also smell some hops. I'm interested to find out what the beer actually tastes like.

I soon discover I don't taste a lot of graininess or hoppiness. Instead, I get some fruitiness, perhaps some apple or pear. It vaguely, VAGUELY reminds me of Anchor Steam Beer, except it's rougher, without a balancing hoppy finish.

This is yet another Yuengling offering I wouldn't seek out again but wouldn't decline of offered.

Yuengling Bock pours a clear dark copper with a small head on top. The foam dissolves quickly to a thin ring around the surface leaving behind only a few spots of lace on the glass.

The aroma is malty with caramel, nuts and bready notes.

Each sip of this light to medium bodied beer is slick and dry with moderate carbonation. The taste is malty with flavors of caramel and bread. Mixed in are nuts and grassy hops. Finishes mildly bitter with a lingering caramel flavor.

An easy drinking bock that's well balanced.
