Poured into a National Beer pilsener glass.
A: At first glance, pours an almost jet black color, but hold it up to a light, and it has a very dark red look. The light brown head starts off strong, but quickly goes away.
S: Notes of caramel and coffee, along with both biscuity and roasted malt aromas...and, unfortunately, a bit of metallicness. Oh well.
T: This is in no way on par with a proper Guinness/Bass black and tan you can get on tap at an Irish pub, but for what it is, it's still pretty good. Starts off with some toffee, caramel, and roasted malt flavors along with a hint of chocolate, then gradually transitions to a more bready pale lager flavor, with just a slight hint of hoppiness.
M: This is where the pale lager part of this beer takes over. Strongly carbonated, and could be a little creamier on the palate.
O: On its own, it's not a great beer. But take off the 'beer snob' goggles and put on the 'Mid-Atlantic college student who can't really afford much else' goggles, and all of a sudden, you've got a winner on your hands.
$7.00 for a 6-pack = win. (Keep in mind, the average craft beer where I live is $9-$10 a sixer)

12oz bottle poured into a pint glass.
A: Very deep brown in color, but with some red hues. Good clarity. Two fingers of thick creamy beige head retain extremely well. Lacing decorates the glass as if it were a veil.
S: Corny scent. Grassy hops. Muted aroma of brown cocoa and brown bread. That is all. Very bland and nondescript.
T: Sweet corn and grain husk. Grassy hops. Vague suggestions of brown cocoa, cola, molasses, and bread crust. Corn comes back and stomps out all else. Sweet finish of corn and muted grassy hop.
M: Light-medium body. Somewhat creamy with an active carbonation. It seriously lacks substance and comes off overly foamy.
O: Just not very good. Overly sweet, lacking substance. Too much adjunct lager, not nearly enough porter. Not worth a second look.
