I am drinking this beer right after a High Life, and the distinctions between the two are clear. I have become a fan of Yuengling, as it is a much richer, more complex Lager than any of the American adjuncts. The High Life almost tastes like water compared to this beer. I prefer Sam Adams Boston Lager over this beer, but I can't think of many other Lagers that I have had that top it for the price. I think it deserves a good rating for it's unique qualities and original taste. It's a real good Lager.

I drink this beer a lot, mostly because it's widely available on tap in my area. & most places it's that or bud/miller so It's a no brainer. I needed a new growler & decided to grab a full Yuengling from my distributer because they have a nice metal handle & a ceramic top.

Now to the Beer.
A nice light amber color with a small head & a sweet natural earthy smell. The taste is a nice light, crisp sweet beer with a malty/hoppy taste. This is a very drinkable beer due to it's lightness.

This beer is like sitting in the cheap seats at World Series game 7. It is what it is. You get to be there but part of you wishes you had just watched it from your old recliner. Ok taste, real easy to drink, but no "character". Will I drink it again, ya I love beer. Am I counting the hours down until then, nope.

Dark for any lager it's has a nice brown to amber coloring with thick head that had decent retention.

The scent is rather stale, not offensive but nothing special. Sweet caramel maltiness, with touches of dry cracker to metallic malt.

I like Yuengling, perhaps for posterity, but it has excellent qualities. The taste is a touch roasted, with caramel malt sweetness. There's some cracker or toasted bread and an ever so light hop finish.

I'll be the first to admit that old habits are hard to break but I feel like Yuengling has some real craft beer qualities despite the price.

A: very attractive amber color, thin head barely retains a ring around the edge. active carbonation

S: tangy sweetness

T: I have a hard time distinguishing the taste. maybe it's because, for me, it tastes like beer. I have had so much Lager over the years that this is really the standard upon which all other beers are compared. But it has been quite some time since I've had one so I decided to come back and rate it. I expected to be disappointed after spending a lot of time the last few months with expensive microbrews. But I wasn't.

grains, a very generic sweetness (not honey or anything like that) and some very faint hops come through on the back end. The only thing disagreeable about this brew is a little funk to the aftertaste (nothing compared to other low cost alternatives

M: carbonation is perky up front and the smooth taste comes flowing out as the tingle goes away. nothing really stands out about this beer but the delicate balance is really phenomenal. Leaves just the right amount of coating in the mouth without being overwhelming

O: Can not be beat for what it is.

I like this beer I drink it as my everyday stand by beer. American owned and always consistent taste and quality for a big brewery.

Good tasting everyday beer I like to stay away from the big beer companies.

American owned means a lot to me and the big beer companies are no longer take pride in their beer unlike Yuengling which does...

A - on tap in a plastic cup at an outdoor hotel bar at Disney. The beer had very little visible carbonation, no head retention, and no lacing. People call it amber, but I think it looks more like rust.

S - very subtle toasted malt smell.

T - maybe it is the plastic cup talking, but I'm not a fan of this one
Yes it has some flavor to it, but bad flavor in my opinion.

M - watery up front with a kind of gritty sensation. The finish is not clean and leaves me with a residual funkiness.

O - not a fan, and I think this beer would be rated much lower without all the rampant homerism from the PA residents.

You may be wondering why I gave a 4 overall and I'll explain:

Yuengling is miles ahead of every other inexpensive beer here in PA. It is a solid lager with a very distinctive taste that in my mind is synonymous with a go-to beer. At every decent party I've ever been to Yuengling was there. It is not something I would buy to drink at home, but it is something I will pound down at a tailgate, bbq, family event, work function etc etc. It is refreshing, crisp, clean, and satisfying. This is what all the cheap beer companies wish they were producing but don't.

I've had it in a bottle, on tap, warm, cold, frozen... everything. It is a staple here and I'm so glad to have it.

I do want to review this beer but would rather inform others about it.

Growing up 30 miles outside of Pottsville Pa Lager is my first beer of choice.

Most people will consider this beer to be a domestic, but it is actually a craft beer.

Lager is sold to a limited market. Yuengling is currently distributed in Pennsylvania, Ohio, New Jersey, New York, Delaware, Maryland, Washington DC, Virginia, West Virginia, Tennessee, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Florida and Alabama.

Yuengling is a private company and does not offer stock to the public, nor does it issue financial and annual reports. It is 5th generation owned and operated.

If your from Pa and go to a bar and say you want a "lager" expect to get Yuengling Traditional.

Yuengling Tradional Amber Lager is easily one of the best beers I've ever had...let alone American beers. I first recall having it on tap on my 4th of July vacation back in 2011 to Ticonderoga, New York. The Best Western my brothers and I were staying at had a hotel bar with Yuengling on tap. Never saw the name before and gave it a shot. I was pleasantly surprised. Very full, tasty, with a bit of bite. Along with at $3.25 a beer you couldn't go wrong. Since then I've gone out of my way to get some Yuengling Amber Lager any way I could. Through friends and even driving to the nearest Walmart in New York for a Yuengling run.
Anyways when poured it comes out in my glass with an amber brownish color. Following a nice head. Even the head tastes good without it being overpowering in the glass. But it definitely lets you know its there. The smell is reminiscent of a good lager. Hints of barley, malts, and something I can't really put my finger on. Tastewise...I may get some ball busting for this but to me it tastes like if Sam Adams Boston Lager had a baby with Miller Genuine Draft. Very well brewed with some bite to it. Through the bottles there isn't too much carbonation so it works well in the mouth. Overall Yuengling Traditional Amber Lager is one of the best beers out there. There aren't any other beers I would drive 200mi+ there and back to buy or pay extra for someone else to get for me. Easily one of the best lagers I've ever drank. If given the chance I do reccomend trying Yuengling Lager. You won't regret it.

I've been drinking this beer for 20 years and it was pretty much all we drank in college, and I can't believe I've never reviewed it. But hey, I'll take the opportunity now. Review is from notes taken on 5/22/2013 and poured from can to a pint glass.

Appearance: Fairly dark coppery color as expected, near perfect clarity, moderately strong carbonation bubbling up to a thin wispy and incomplete skim of a head. Head died down really quickly and leaves now trace of lacing, and I know my glass is clean, so that's one of the only faults I can find with the appearance. Solid and looks like it should.

Smell: Grainy and a little toasty, slightly sweet corn. I mean, there's not a lot going on here, but it's clean and simple, and there's nothing wrong with that.

Taste: See smell. Pretty much matches it to a T. It's nothing that's ever going to blow anyone's mind, and it's probably best enjoyed while riding around on a lawn mower, but when the 12 pack is less than 10 bucks, you can't go wrong.

Mouthfeel: Pretty good, really. Body is light (compared to most beers I drink) and it's crisp and refreshing. Doesn't linger, doesn't coat, doesn't leave any nasty aftertastes.

Overall: Like mentioned earlier, it's never going to rock anyone's world or make any top beer lists, but sometimes simple and cheap is all that's necessary for a night of enjoyment. Take something for what it is and be realistic, and you too can enjoy the simple things in life.

Surprised by the red color of this one. Caught my offguard as i didn't realize it was an amber. Nice look though. Clear walnut with 1 finger offwhite head. Not much retention, but decent lacing for the style.

Sweet notes to the smell, sugar, molasis, grain and pale lager malts.

Taste seems to follow nose with some added citrus and earthy hops. Husks of the grain. No astringency detected as can be the norm at times with the style.

Light body and fairly drinkable. Crisp and refreshing.

Nothing wrong with this beer as my expectations weren't all that high. An enjoyable lager that I woudln't mind having again.

Poured from a bottle into a mug. Ill try and keep my PA and bias out of this review. I used to drink this throughout college and growing up. Now as a real review, the beer is pretty average and good overall brew to have for a party. One finger head that quickly expires after a few minutes. Almost zero head retention. No real noticeable smell, a little malt, some floral notes I guess. Almost a chemical type nose and mouthfeel. I get large carbonation feel and aftertaste. Almost seems to transition to a watery taste. Maybe my tolerance is now sky high but it tastes more like 2%. I get a little bit of sweetness and some dryness. It's very drinkable, like I said, a good party beer. Decent and inexpensive, brings me back to my college years.

Yuengling Traditional could be accurately characterized as a Vienna style beer, I think - an amber hue, a bit heavier than a lager, but still refreshing and suitable for my own house beer. It was once available only within a limited area from Pottsville, PA. Now, I am finding it all over the country. Where you find this beer at normal premium beer prices like Bud and other typical American lagers, it is an excellent bargain. I find it selling at import prices in some parts of the country, but it is considered "local beer" around Baltimore, making it pretty irresistable as an all-rounder daily brew.

A - big off-white head over a transparent body of amber, lots of visible carbonation at first

S - herbal and grassy, toasty malt

T - toasty/grainy malt with light sweetness, grassy, herbal hops, citrus; dry finish

M - slick medium body, high carbonation

O - Nothing special going on in the nose or feel, but decent flavor if you're in the mood for something simple and inexpensive.

Great everyday go-to beer. The new but old Budweiser! At least they didn't sell out to a foreign company. It has a full bodied taste without being over powering. Goes down smooth, and clean. We used to be Bud light folks, but now we are true blue Yuengling fans.

Pours a dark amber/gold color with a frothy white head. Smells mostly of grain. Not much else. Taste is what you'd expect from a beer like this. Mostly a grainy type flavor with a bit of sweetness. A bit of maltyness as well. Not much else. Mouthfeel is very nice. It's light and crisp and easy to drink. Not my favorite cheap go-to beer, but not bad.

12oz can poured into pint glass.

When poured hard, you get a thick khaki head with a very nice amber color. Your smells here are the typical lager notes, I have yet to find a lager that deviates strongly from this aroma profile.

The taste is sweet and the feel is rather creamy. Small bitter hop notes but mostly sweet. I wouldn't say this is the best beer, or even top 25% beer. But for your dollar I wouldn't put much ahead of this. A 12 pack for 10 bucks... All day long.

This is the beer I "grew up on", having went to college in PA. It's been 18 years since I was in college, and I still have this beer constantly in my beer fridge. It's a really fantastic lager that can beat or match any other lager out there, including Sam Adams, New Albion, and any others. Really a nice, albeit cheap, lager. But then, there's a reason why they're the oldest continuous brewery in the U.S.

It's a very copper looking beer. A light amber, that has this look that automatically makes you wonder "could there be flavor there?" The head appears, but its thin, and disappears before I even finished this sentence.

You definitely can pull out caramel and very light hops, but overall, what you would expect from this style, nothing mind blowing smell wise.

This beer is refreshing. It reminds me of playing pool at Froggy Bottom Pub. The caramel definitely comes with a malty backbone.

The beer is very light, with a higher level of carbonation that lingers in your mouth. Dry finish, crisp, best on a warm-summer/spring day.

Overall, the traditional lager from Yuengling is a solid beer. It delivers on exactly what it promises, a simple refreshing lager.

Okay, there are hundreds of excellent reviews here that describe this beer in detail, so this is a rather subjective review.

A Yuengling is what you get if you just order a "lager" in Philadelphia. It's the standard, here, and it's definitely not a bad one. The had could be more stable, but besides that, there is simply nothing wrong with that beer. It's well-balanced, lightly (but not impalpably) hopped, with a beautiful amber color. It's not made for beer-snobs that only judge a beer by the amount of hops, but it's an unobtrusive, characterful companion that can be drunk "every day".

A- Coppery amber color, short-lived head, slight lacing on the sides

S- slight caramel, some hops, smells clean

T- Refreshing, a touch of hops and caramel, nothing special though

Serving glass: Poured from tap into large glass.

Appearance: Clear amber with decent off-white head.

Smell: Caramel, grain, spicy hops, slight citrus.

Taste: Malty with a caramel focus. Light spiciness along with a hint of citrus.

Feel: Light to medium body with moderately high carbonation. Semi-dry finish that is crisp despite the low hops.

Overall: Pretty good traditional Pre-Prohibition Style Lager. While nothing particularly rememberable, it is perfect for when you just want a "beer".

Poured from 12oz green bottle into a tumbler.

Appearance: medium caramel-brown hue with a haze free body and a mild effervescence. Head poured a thin layer of white foam and dissipated quickly. Good color, but the head is a bit dissapointing.

Smell: neutral lager aroma; lightly malty with a hint of plastic. Not great, but inoffensive and not bad for the style.

Taste: much like the aroma, the flavor is pretty neutral right up front, followed by a light, grainy maltiness. The plasticy hint in the aroma is thankfully absent in the flavor. Not too bad, especially for the style!

Mouthfeel: light body with a prickly effervescence. Not creamy, but bright and refreshing. I like it.

Overall: this beer is OK, but it is indeed highly drinkable. If Yuengling were available in my neck of the woods, it would probably be my go-to American lager; it would make a great beer for band practice.

Bottle into glass

A - Deep amber color. Pours a medium bubbly head that quickly dissipates to leave a ring of bubbles around the edge, leaves minimal lacing

S - Caramel malt, weak hops

T - Malt, grain, earth, toffee. A good mix a sweet and bitter, can taste a touch of hops, finishes with a bready/metallic/bitter taste

M - A bit creamy with light body, moderate-high carbonation

O - Nothig spectacular, but a good option when looking to save money
