Beer Heaven is on Columbus Blvd in the South of Philly.
Inside a very clean and the interior and floor is mostly white. Clean floors and the smell was nice, not dingy, Very organized selection here with prices displayed so you don't have to do the check and put back in the cooler a gillion times.
Service was attentive and she seemed like she cared. Quality could use a re-haul, I saw a bunch of out of date IPA's and the like just waiting to be carted off by stone or whoever distributes them in Philly. If I was a bottle shop owner, Old IPA's would not be tolerated. Can't these people just order what is needed and not sit on multiple cases of old dwindling beer. Needless to say, some beer is old and that pisses me off.
Anyway selection is banging, pretty much everything you can get in Philly without Cantillon. Prices were very high and I know this is Philly, but they seemed very steep, for everything, even the little guys. Some small tables in the front for a bite and a sit down drink if you want it, that's always a nice touch. If I was in a jam I would go here and for every Thread I see on the mid-atlantic forums, this will be the spot I suggest. Just check your dates, you will be surprised. Only knocking the quality here on this review because of that.

A: A really good place to buy some bottles of beer. Shelves on one side, and coolers on the other. Nothing over 5' tall, so you don't have to struggle to see and/or reach anything.
Q: Nice and clean. Lots of room. PLENTY OF FREE PARKING.
Ser: They know nothing of beer (and they come off as if they probably don't care too; which is sad)! But very very nice & pleasant people that run the store. And also, they need to put some prices out that line up with the beer.
Sel: Some hiddem gems, new brews, and old favorites! I haven't seen Hoptimus Prime in a long long time.
V: lil bit, lil bit pricy.
One of my hot spots when driving in center city, and/or South Philly. And I def recommend the Pho next door!

I stopped in a few weeks back. The woman working there was very friendly and was able to answer the questions I had about the availability of a few beers. Their selection is good, not quite as good as The Foodery but still pretty good. Most of the beers available here are domestic microbrews, with a good selection of the local breweries(Yards, PBC, Troegs, Victory etc) and they had the usual suspects from Europe. They also have a pretty good selection of big bottles. I think their prices are better than The Foodery and if you mix a six pack you get 10% off on each bottle. Not too shabby. I will definitely be heading back to Beer Heaven.

I read about this joint here on BA and decided to give it a try. It's not far from the Bella Vista/South Street area the wife and I frequent, although it sits on an odd location between the Interstate and the river with lots of strip malls and difficult traffic patterns.
Beer Heaven it is indeed! A small store packed with beer. A huge cooler wrapping around the store, with single bottles and bombers, plus some shelves in the middle with room-temp stuff and more bombers by the register.
I was enticed by all the beer I can't get in New York City, including Williamsburg Alewerks, Caldera (Old Growth), Lost Abbey and Russian River (of which they have pretty much the entire lineup). A ton of different barreled Eclipse Imperial Stout, at $35 each.
Prices are HUGE. Maybe not as bad as The Foodery, but pretty bad. Victory Dark Intrigue was $17.99 ($11.99 in NYC), Older Viscosity marked at $22 ($15 in NJ) and Firestone XV for $28.79 ($19.99 in NJ).
If you got the cash to burn, why not. I just bought two bottles of Russian River Salvation at $9 each.

The prices were the highest I've seen but the selection is worth the visit alone and I order a majority of my collection offline and the prices were quite comparable to having to pay to have the same beer shipped. I bought the rest of their alesmith speedway stout at 17$ a pop which is about what it would cost to have the items delivered to my front door.
Service was non-existent, however the store was very well organized and the clerk new exactly the quantities in stock but I had to find the bottles myself. They had some of my favorite breweries all in the same place, gotta love that.

Stopped by to pick up a bottle as a source of some good brett/bacteria for some homebrewed sours. Not the first time I had been in but, there selection has improved dramatically.
Atmosphere is exactly what you want if you want to browse for 20 minutes, no hassling but lots of room to maneuver and look around.
Service is acceptable, these guys get a good mix of brews, this has a much better selection than Hawthorne's and maybe the Foodery. It is run by the same people as Society Hill just up the street on Washington Ave, but they definitely have a few here I did not notice there.
Selection is probably the best I have seen, they had multiple picks from some good west coast brews that I had not seen in Philly yet (at least at distributors). I was looking for 1 or 2 sours for a source of bottle dregs, picked up and Oud Beersel, but nearly got a Jolly Pumpkin or Russian River as well. I'll definitely be back to try one of those.
Value is on the reasonable side for most things, I'd have to stop by the foodery to compare for sure, but it seemed a bit more fair with a much better selection and ease of maneuvering.

I finally stopped by this place earlier tonight on the way to ikea in South Philly. Oddly located off of I-95 in a strip mall that's not really close to other beer destinations.
It's basically a medium sized retail shop with a very impressive selection of craft beers. Very clean and bright with little to no decor. There are a ton of coolers that surround the back and right walls as well as a long aisle of room temperature bottles. Additionally, there are even more bottles at the counter.
There is tons of shelf space that's filled with probably the best selection in the area. They carry everything here including things I've never seen before. Tons of rare beers as well but be prepared to pay. Selection is better than Foodery with crazy volume that's on par with the quality of Capones. Some highlights were bourbon BA shipwrecked porter, Drie Fonteinen, rare lost abbey beers, eclipse variations, Stillwater, girardin, Cigar City, Cafe Royal and on and on. The only thing missing was Cantillon. That being said, the prices were outrageous! Some things were reasonable but some of the rarer bottles were $10-15 more than most stores(yet still cheaper than Foodery). I guess that's the price you pay if you want access to a particular beer without hassle or a waiting list. I could have gone broke here but left with only three bottles. I'll definitely be back soon!

Went here tonight to check it out...curiosity got the best this time. It is incredible how accustomed Philadelphian's have become to great beer culture. This place would take the cake in any other town, but in Philly, it just gets muted. However, I will say this: Beer Heaven has some awesome beer selection. The fact that I found a few beers here that I have NEVER even seen for sale mean a lot!
Excellent cooler displays that are well-organized and maintained. The place is clean, and my only suggestions would be to have more beer and make sure that everything is labeled properly with the price. Speaking of the price, some were definitely a bit oo much. As awesome as it is that they have a 2000 bottle of Thomas Hardy's or JW Lees or whatever it is, I don't think that 10 bucks is reasonable. MAybe that is just my ignorance...
Also, it was clean and the people that were working there seemed nice. Though they should say hello to people when they come in...it makes you feel more welcome.

I was suprised at the amount and variety of beers available here. The building seems small from the outside, but it is quite impressive within. I found several beers I have never tasted before.I spent quite a bit of time trying to decide which ones to purchase because so many of them appealed to me. I also appreciate the ability to create your own variety packs. The lady at the counter was quite knowledgeable about the various types and quality of their selections. It is a little more expensive than my normal craft beer store, but when in South Philly it is a stop of mine. I would definitely recommend this place.
