Slick Nick Winter Ale is our most popular seasonal ale. The caramel and black malts we use to brew Slick Nick gives it the deep amber color. This insidious brew is best enjoyed during New England's freezing winter months. Slick Nick himself is pictured on our label casing out the Victoria Mansion in Portland Maine on a blustery night. Warm up with one of Maine's best winter offerings.

12 oz shiny purple can from Sierranevallagash dated 12-4-18, poured into New Belgium snifter.
Has a plummy color with slight orange hues and shades of root beer. The head is butter colored and two fingers to start, and then recedes to half a finger leaving lace.
Aroma is of warm pie crust, fireplace, syruped figs, rich toasted grains, glazed pecan, banana walnut bread, and pie spice with Belgian yeasty phenolics. The fact that this takes me back to my childhood - instant five.
Flavor opens hoppy with hints of dead grass and pine and woody evergreen, then a malty rush with special B, caramel malt, pie spice, dirt, and mint.
Feel is very creamy, with mild carbonation and lingering oils and resins.
Overall, this reminds me a lot of an Oregon wintertime beer, but done better. They've successfully canned a winter's night in a warm cabin on Christmas Eve.

Poured into a clear glass mug, the appearance was a semi-dark brown close to black color with a finger and a half's worth of foamy rocky eggshell white head that slid off at a mild pace. Moderate trickling lace ran here and there, slightly speckled.
The aroma wove a nice arrangement of sweet to roasted malts with a subtle earthy clean spice. Some nuttiness - somewhat like cashews and walnuts. Then the caramel/toffee maltiness came in to mesh with a little bit of milk chocolate.
The flavor leaned slightly to the sweet side but encompassed a fairly decent level of roast and spice. Slight tickle of the milk chocolate and roast in the aftertaste.
The mouthfeel was almost medium bodied with a clean sessionability about it. Carbonation felt good. ABV felt on par, slightly warming yet nice. Finish was malty smooth with a semi-soothing roast and pulled spiciness (harshness wasn't very apparent).
Overall, it's exactly what Sebago wishes it to be, that rich smooth warming Winter goodness. One definitely to enjoy around the fireplace with a hockey or a football game on in the background of the evening.

Can dated 12/09/15:
Pour is quite nice. A decently clear deep amber, perhaps even ruby. Head is tight and sits atop the brew for a ling time providing significant lacing.
Nose seems more like a hoppy amber, with a little bit of amber malt countered by a decent dose of piney bitterness.
The taste starts off hop-forward in the initial sips. the malt just about catches the bitter before a piney, slightly resinous bitterness finishes the beer. The amber malty notes strengthen early as the beer warms, but the beer stays overall fairly bitter. I am not getting too much alcohol warmth or and type of spice in this beer.
A decent hoppy amber, a style that is not my favorite. I'm not sure it quite makes it to my ideal of a winter warmer, although I am also pushing the edge of the winter season.

Given a couple to try. A decent winter ale, not heavily spiced and hoppy. Goes down easy. Might buy a rack if I see it.
