750ml, 2012 Project
Lost Abbey tulip
A: Pours a murky deep dark red color. Thin collar of tight bubbles of slightly pink head. Seems to be lightly carbonated. Some alcohol feet showing up on the glass.
S: Smells of tart cherries. Oak. Vinous. Maybe some malt sweetness. Not overly sour aggressive or anything.
T: You get tart cherry up front, but like others have said its not as sour as other Cascades. You can tell its more of that red ale base. Maybe the bugs didn't get to it as much. Very pleasantly lightly tart and not overly aggressive. As it warms, it get more of that Flanders style here. Some vanilla from wood too. Some dryness on back end but bit bone dry.
M: Medium bodied. Not as carbonated as other Cascades.

A - Pours a deep burgundy-red with a fizzy tan-purple head that quickly moves to the edges.
S - Tart cherry and oak woodiness.
T - Tart cherry with a touch of sweetness, some barrel characteristics - wood and funk.
D - Good carbonation with a medium body.
O - Tart cherry and barrel. Nothing really surprising here.

750ml bottle, split, hill farmstead stemware
from notes
"This NW style sour ale is the Cerise Nouveau of cherry beers. It's a blend of red ales aged in oak barrels for up to eight months, then aged on fresh Bing cherries for an additional three months. "
Dark. More sweet than sour, really. Balsamic. Layers and layers of cherries - nowhere near as complex as sang noir/rouge/royal. In the endless array of fruit-forward Cascade beers, this wasnt one of the better ones.

thanks joe
the beer pours a deep, dark, cloudy, slightly rusty maroon with a head that disappears in a blink. the nose is cherry forward and sweet with a slight tartness. the taste is definitely slightly danker, but hugely tart cherries forward. it drinks with a lot more character compared to the kriek. it's medium bodied, drinkable, dank, tart, semi-dry, and distinctly cherry. the beer definitely lives up to my cascade standard, great cherry, worth trying.

Darker red-red-amber pour with a bead of bubbles around the perimeter of the surface. Tart aroma, cherries, some vinous, acetic, and lactic qualities. More of this in the taste, sour/tart cherry, red wine, earthy barrel wood, leather, and some acetic acid, with some spicy yeast elements coming through. Pretty nice stuff from Cascade, as usual. Medium body, lower carbonation, and quite enjoyable for the style.

750 ml bottle shared with a friend. Poured into a red solo cup (was the only thing at hand).
A: Dark red/brownish color. Tiny white head as we poured.
S: Tons of sour cherries, oak, some grape and funk. Smells great.
T: Quite sour but probably lower than other Cascade beers. Wood tannins, wine-like flavors, sour cherries, slight vinegar-like flavor.
M: Medium bodied with low carbonation. Carbonation was not bad but I would have liked a bit more.
O: Great beer but definitely not Cascade's best. Still worth trying in my opinion.
