Draft at the Barrel House in a stubby chalice. Pater is ruby in color, opaque, with a thin white layer of carbonation. Lots of sweet/sour cherry play, well oaked with complex vinegar. Touches of spice. Medium bodied with a snappy carbonation. Delicious movement between sweet and tart. Really liked this one.

On tap for the 2012 Peter Reeves Memorial Sourfest at Churchill’s Pub & Grille in San Marcos, CA.

Pours a clear orange-brown with a foamy off-white head that settles to wisps of film on top of the beer. Foamy patches of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is sour, tart, and funky with some vinegar and sour cherry aromas. Taste is much the same with an acidic sour cherry finish. This beer has a good level of carbonation with a crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is a very good beer that is really tasty and easy to drink.

On-tap at Stone Sour Fest

Pours a bright red color with little to no head. Very strong cherry aroma, almost a bit of a cherry pie character to it. A moderate tartness, some oak, and maybe a hint of straw. The flavor is similarly simple, but enjoyable. Lots and lots of cherries with a lactic, lemony sourness. Good straw, grass, and wood notes as well.

On tap at the barrel house today. Apparently they're pouring their last keg of this excellent beer, which is a shame.

The beer pours a cherry apple cider color with good head retention and decent lacing. The nose is pretty incredible and exotic, as I pick up considerable black cherry, light cranberry, red wine, vanilla, a hint of vinegar and some light sour funk. The flavor profile is no less impressive, and generally replicates the nose, with the wine, cherry and light sour dominating. There is sort of spritzy, slightly tannic finish in this beer, which only adds to the complexity. Mouthfeel is light to medium bodied, and as is typical with Cascade, the alcohol is nearly undetectable. Finish is fairly long in this beer, with the wine and sour flavor coming on strong at the end.

While the perfect score from Josh (barleywinefiend) seems a bit generous, there's no denying that this is an exceptionally fine, well made beer from Cascade. Very glad I was able to try this one.

A: Was extremely happy to be amongst the first to sample this at Parkway Tavern-Cascade night in January 2012. Poured a deep red color with crimson hues and a nice white cap

S: You can smell and even feel the acidity on this. Loads of cherries and Earthiness.

T: Big, immediate tartness with sharp acidicty and some unripened cherries, red cherries and a a light addage of a random dark cherry. Big lacto, vinegar and sweetness with some wood and Earthy notes.

M: Medium body, well carbonated and tart as hell

O: If Cascade wanted to create a lockjaw capable brew then they succeeded. Perhaps one of the most acidic and tart Sours by these guys yet.

"This beer shares a name with Peter Bouclaert, a friend and fellow sour beer appreciator. This is our inflection of a beer he used to make. This red ale was aged in oak barrels with cherries 12 to 18 months."

on-tap, urban family public house

from notes

appearance: served in a branded snifter, murky ruby body, light white film

smell: nice blend of sour cherry and sweet cherry, oak, sugar

taste: enjoyed this one while waiting for some take-out thai food from next door. tart and sugary - sour pie cherries used in this one, nice texture from the oak, pinch of cinnamon, a drop of balsamic. Great stuff.

mouthfeel: tart and acidic, drinks well for the higher abv

overall: great stuff
