Without a doubt one of the (if not THE) best beers Cascade produces. This was a 2010 barrel tasted in July 2011.

Pours a good orange hue with light head fading to a nice lace. Good carbonation despite being cask conditioned.

Amazingly aromatic with super sour apricot right off the bat with a hefty dose of sour funk. Amazingly rich nose, though rather simple and straightforward (not a bad thing).

Palate is super tart apricot with a sweet mango or peach kind of thing balancing out. Amazing flavors, just pure and expressive.

Lovely medium body with great intensity of flavors, mild alcohol presence, despite the 8.5%. Really nice balance.

Overall a stunning beer. Not the most crazy thing they make but consistent and very, very high quality.

A hazy golden orange with a few bubbles and a film for foam that leaves a few spots for lace

S big apricot nose with lots of wood and funk, a little vinegar and faint cheese, straight forward but great

T very similar to the nose but just toned down slightly, the intensity of the fruit just doesn’t quite match the nose but still tastes great

M light and sour but not puckering, turning my mouth inside out sort of thing, fairly dry and just a little grit left behind after the fact

O mellow on the sour and a very solid beer all around, worth looking for

Something I’d drink again but I know it’s not cheap, pretty stoked I have the blueberry version to look forward too

A: The beer pours out of the bottle cloudy yellow that is orange at its deepest points. The head isn't great, but the bubbles race up through the beer vigorously. 4

S: The oak and sour characters start the aroma out well. The apricots come next and are strong, but definitely hide underneath the sour. I'm really loving the blend of sweetness from the fruit, tripel and blond ales with the acidity of the sour notes. 4

T: The taste blows me away. In your face acidity that really rips the enamel off of your teeth. The apricots try to balance it out, and while they do a great job they just can't cut it completely. This is exactly how I like my American Wild Ales to be. 5

MF: Light body that is a bit overcarbonated. The tartness makes my mouth water and makes me continue to come back for more. This is very drinkable. 4

O: Home run. Really great first run at Cascade's sours. If you like apricots you will love this. 4.5

750ml corked and caged bottle that has two giant apricots on a stem with two leaves on the front. Directly under the ass shaped apricots is a vintage year. This bottle is from their 2011 project. To the far left are two short paragraphs describing the beer. Poured into a Peg's Catina Snifter.

This beer shares the same color as a golden apricot. It poured a very bubbly lightly hazy golden apricot orange color. Holding it up to the light will unleash the gold part of the beer. Not the best head of foam on a beer, but you usually don't get much foam on top this style of beer. The initial head of foam was about 1/4 of inch in height and bubbly. Bubbles usually don't have a color, but these bubbles made the beer look like there was a pearl white head of foam on this beer. Good retention that left behind a small island of bubbles and a medium sized string of rings along the side. The second and third pours resulted in a better head of foam.

Not only did it look like a golden apricot, but it smelled like one. A hugely sour and tart golden apricot, but an apricot nonetheless. True that the aroma is sour, but its not super sour that will make your head turn away in a flash. It was a very pleasant tart and sour aroma. Behind the golden apricot was a splash of green apple, a pinch of golden peach, and a subtle whiff of oak. At one time I swear that got the sweet aroma of Pixie Sticks. Very good sour and tart fruity aroma.

I'm sure you know what I'm going to say next. Did it taste like an apricot? Only if they make really sour and tart apricot flavored Warheads. The taste was more sour and tart than the aroma. Thats actually saying a lot. Behind the sour and tart apricot was a little green apple sourness, a few green grapes, and a splash of golden peach. After the fruits had their fun, this fruity sour beer then finishes up a subtle dry oak taste. No appearance of the Pixie Sticks in the taste. Sour and tart + fruits= Very good! That's simple math.

This was a light to medium bodied Wild Ale that had a nice amount of carbonation and a sour and tart fruit based aftertaste. Did you expect anything else? I got more golden apricot, green grapes, green apples, and a drop of oak in the aftertaste. The oak taste won't stick around, but the beer's sour and tartness will. If you don't want that sour taste stuck in your mouth, have a glass of water on standby.

A barrel aged apricot Wild Ale? You know that won't come cheap. You have to open your wallet a little wider if you want to try a beer like this. Was it worth it? I'd say its the price. I'm saying that because I enjoy this style. In the end, this was a very good sour and tart fruit based Wild Ale. It was nice to see that the oak doesn't take over the taste. It was the apricot that ruled over this taste. The beer stays true to its name.

2011 project

A: Pours a yellow orange almost a an apricot color. hmm. with a loud white head that rapidly dissipates to nothing.

S: slightly sweet with hints of fruits. apricots of course

T: acidic with a nice sweet apricots with oak woodyness . as it warms up the apricots come out more and the oak is still there.

M: bright and vibrant. it almost dances on the tongue .

O: Sours are not my chalice of tea but I really enjoyed this beer. It took me a while to drink but still yummy. Cheers!

A - Super hazy golden-orange with a finger of frothy white head. Fades normal.

S - Funky brett and other yeasts, tart apricots, oak, vanilla, farmhouse character, lactic acid.

T - Tart apricots and other citrus fruits, lots of funkiness and Brett, oak, vanilla, lactic acid, a touch of sourness, lemon zest.

M - Medium bodied, moderate carbonation. Smooth with a tart and funky finish.

D - Great wild ale. The apricots are nice and tart and the overall beer well balanced.

Bottle labeled "2011 Project" poured into 50W tulip glass

A: Pours a cloudy bright orange tangerine color. Bubbly 2 finger head forms and fizzle quickly leaving little lacing. Appears to have a high carbonation level.

S: Tart funkiness. Belgian yeast. Oak. The apricot waft isn't strong, but it's there. A little hay and grass.

T: The apricots are much stronger in the taste than the nose suggests. The tartness is strong. Tons of funk. Oak is the underbelly of everything, balancing the sweetness well.

M: Dry. Light body. High carbonation. Sweet and a bit sticky. Prickly.

O: Once again, Cascade doesn't disappoint. My favorite offering from them to date. The Apricot in this one is perfect.

A: The beer is hazy yellow in color with some amber hues. It poured with a thin white head that died down a bit but consistently left a thin layer of bubbles covering the surface and a collar around the edge of the glass.
S: Light to moderate aromas of sourness are present in the nose.
T: Like the smell, the taste is a little sour but has oaky flavors from the barrel aging along with light notes of apricots.
M: It feels light- to medium-bodied and very tart on the palate with a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: This beer has very nice amounts of sourness and tartness, but neither of these are over the top and are somewhat balanced off by the apricots.

A: Pours a cloudy apricot in color with some light to moderate amounts of visible carbonation and some golden yellow + orange highlights. The beer has a finger tall dense foamy light beige head that slowly reduces to a very thin film covering about 75% of the surface of the beer and a medium thick ring at the edges of the glass. Significant amounts of lacing are observed.

S: Moderate to strong aromas of funky tartness with some lighter aromas of apricot and oak.

T: Upfront this beer is very tart/sour with some slightly lighter amounts of funkiness. Moderate flavors of oak with some lighter apricot fruit notes in the mid-palate. There is a pleasant lingering flavor of apricot in the finish without very much sweetness.

M: Just shy of medium bodied with light to moderate amounts of carbonation. Smooth, almost creamy, with a moderate amount of acidic prickliness.

O: The alcohol in this beer is very well hidden, almost dangerously so... This beer has a lot of sourness and tartness, so it is not a fast drinking or sessionable beer but is very enjoyable. I would be happy to find this one again.

First had: bottle from...er...not sure where I got it.

A slightly hazy golden-orange pour that got hazier towards the end of the bottle. A somewhat aggressive pour yielded a large foamy cap of white head that settled down to a thick collar, leaving quickly-receded lacing on the glass. Tart, lactic aroma, apricot and pear. This obviously followed through into the taste, with the tart apricot pretty much dominating all, with a biscuity malt base detectable. Pretty sour, I must say. This followed an Upland Blackberry, and pretty much nuked my palate even after that one. A woody, barrel profile emerged later, getting more pronounced near the middle/end of the bottle. Medium body, spritzy carbonation. Quite good overall, but not something I'd drink regularly. I definitely needed an antacid after this and the Upland.

A - pours a hazy golden-light orange with a white head and some lace. No bubbles.

S - soft and pleasant aroma of apricot and faint vinegar. Not much more.

T - is like the aroma, except much more impressive. Delicious. Apricot with a moderately sour finish.

M - light-medium body with a nice bubbly feel. Mouth watering after a few sips. It does very nice things to my tongue in several locations. Semi-dry and unmistakably sour with a long sour sustain.

O - another well crafted fruit sour from Cascade. It's a pleasure to drink and should satisfy anyone who likes sour fruit ales. This one doesn't have much contribution from the barrel, but I don't care, because it tastes great.

Seven-fifty into a Tired Hands wine-style glass, about 7 months after purchase of the 2012 bottle. Paired with some inspirational Wolfpack film.

The pour produces a finger of bone-white head atop a hazy, sunset golden ale. The nose packs a big, lemon-lime and passionfruit acid punch with a good deal of apricot, green apple, tangerine, pineapple, white grape, and honeysuckle. Lighter and refreshing with a full carbonation. Oaked, crisp white wine all over this one. Flavors of apricot, tangerine, and green apple with a big crabapple sour that sticks to the roof of your mouth. Aged hops. Dry oaky, vinegar-sour finish. Sour may have moved in a little more than in my August sample. The bacteria is complex, the fruits enticing, and the oak perfect. Fantastic.

A:orangey dark honey like color that is pretty cloudy with some random floaters in it

S:okay so it actually does smell like fresh apricot but not dead on there are also but not much else

T: wow so this is super sour and sweet at the same time but still crisp and bubbly. It is definitely very fruity and juicy one of the best fruit sours I've had

M: the feel is oily light and bubbly like champaign and goes down extremely easily while complimenting the flavors better then any beer I've seen.

O: another phenomenal beer from cascade I am extremely impressed. It is sweet, sour, fruity and great feel. I highly recommend this beer if you can get it

2011 Project

Hazy, glowing, straw-peach colored. The liquid was topped by a three-finger, tight, bubbly, bright white head that slowly faded to a thin, lasting film. Streaks of drippy lacing trickled down the sides of the glass.

The nose was intense and quite complex. Belgian yeast notes came through strong. Dry and spicy with indications of clove and coriander. Good dose of Bretty tartness. Intense white wine (Chardonnay) notes. Touch of must and horse blanket. A hint of fruity sweetness lent some balance.

The flavor profile was similar to the aroma and but less funky. Quite dry and tart, yet balanced and remarkably complex. Subtle, fruity peach and/or apricot-like notes appeared on the front end and offered a fleeting semi-sweetness. Tart flavors took over in the center. Lemon peel. Strong Brett notes. Lots of white wine. The beer was incredibly vinous. Spicy with notes of clove and coriander. The crisp, snappy finish was super tart and dry. Noticeably acidic and somewhat comparable to apple cider vinegar.

The beer was medium-light bodied for the style with a fine yet spritzy effervescence. A soft and fluffy burst of carbonation hit my palate on the first few sips. The carbonation subsided with time, resulting in a softer and smoother mouthfeel.

The combination of twelve months in oak followed by ten months on apricots did wonders for this fruit flavored sour ale. Not only was it complex and remarkably unique, but also incredibly refreshing and drinkable. This was well worth the steep price of admission and would make a fantastic warm weather treat. If I have the opportunity to sample this again, I would love to try a fresher bottle to see if the apricot flavor is more apparent.

S: Bright, clean, apricot tartness, medium oak, ripe apricots

L: Hazy, burnt yellow, carbonated white head with amazing retention. Solid lacing.

T: Clean tartness with a rich, malty backbone. Medium apricot flavor throughout, predominately in the middle. Has a very sour candy like finish, semi-sweet.

M: Medium-full body, high, effervescent carbonation. Tart, but quenching.

A fantastic, clean, sour beer. Love the subtle apricots with the sweet candy tartness. Surprisingly amount of malt that really works with the sour.

2011 Project 7.76% ABV. 750ml bottle served in a Russian River stemmed glass. Cork removed with a loud pop.

Appearance: Golden honey in color. Slightly hazy. A ton of visible carbonation streaming throughout the glass. Poured with about 1 finger of a slightly off white head (nice retention and lacing too)

Smell: Lots of lactic sourness upfront, apricot, white grape, peach, slight oak and funk.

Taste: Big sour punch right at the front of the tongue that sticks around through the finish. More flavors of white grape, oak, apricot, vinegar. Acidic but not overwhelming.

Mouthfeel: Medium/light bodied. Medium carbonation. Soft creamy mouthfeel. Sour dry finish. Very slight alcohol warmth.

Overall: Another great sour from Cascade. The apricot was a bit more toned down than I was hoping for, but this is still an excellent beer. I'd probably put this one slightly below some their others I've had though.

Poured from a 2011 Project 750 ml corked and caged bottle into a Cascade Brewing Barrel House branded short stemmed tulip glass

Pours a hazy gold with amber accents. A big fluffy two and half finger bright white head adorns the glass, fantastic retention and gobs of lacing are left clinging to the sides. Floral and grassy notes, apricot, bready, slightly funky yeast, vinegar, and hints of oak on the nose. Oak, juicy apricot, Juicy Fruit bubblegum notes, yeasty esters, light barnyard funk, that finishes with lactic acid and white wine vinegar sour and tartness. Light medium bodied, moderate effervescent carbonation. Smooth and silky mouthfeel with syrupy accents. One deliciously complex American sour. Definitely one that shouldn't be missed.

14/01/13. 750ml bottle; caged and corked.

Poured into a Kate the Great snifter, it pours a hazy golden orange with a finger of white head.

S: ripe apricots, spice, apple pie, and some cinnamon in the nose.

T: upfront ripe, juicy apricots come in droves. In the mid-palate lactic acid sourness begins and continues throughout. Apricot skins and spice are also present in the mid-palate. In the back it is dry, then vinous and then extremely sour. Carbonation is spot on and makes it dangerously drinkable.

A phenomenal lambic. it was not as musty as I expected (I was expecting Cantillon like must and earthiness) but this does not detract from it at all. Amazing stuff.

750ml brown glass bottle with hood and wire cap over a cork served into a New Belgium stem-goblet in me gaff in low altitude Los Feliz, Los Angeles, California. Expectations are extremely high; I had Cascade's Kriek and loved it. 7.76% ABV according my bottle; also marked "2011 Project." Reviewed live.

Normally I'd let this warm a bit, but the bottle advises serving at 40 degrees so I'll open it cold. Side-poured with standard vigor as no carbonation issues are anticipated.

I have too much respect for the Kriek to even consider pairing this with food.

Acquired locally for around $18 if I remember right.

A: Pours a one finger white colour head of nice cream, disappointing thickness (not that it's thin; it just isn't all that thick), and average retention (~2 minutes). Body colour is a muted dull apricot orange. Translucent but nontransparent and hazy. No yeast particles are visible. No bubble show. Little lacing as the head recedes. It's not much to look at, admittedly.

Sm: Wild yeast/bacteria, sourness, lactose, fermented peach, tart fruit, apricot, pale malts, and crystal malts. An appealing sour aroma. I can't wait to try it, though the apricot is a bit restrained; the fruit I do get is more peach.

T: Sour, but not necessarily puckerworthy. It's far less sour than the kriek, anyway. Apricot and peach fruit feels deep and complex, with excellent layering between pale and crystal malts. Tart, especially on the backend. Incredibly well balanced and very nicely built, but it does lack the degree of subtlety I expect in a world class sour. It's incredibly well executed, with wonderful bacterial and wild yeast notes. I do wish it was more sour, but it's got plenty of sourness as is. Not too much lactic yeast either; most of the sourness is tart and fruit-derived rather than funky or lactic. Very tasty and not at all too sweet. Oak sits in the background lending a pleasant guiding tone.

Mf: Smooth, wet, crisp. Refreshing. Perfect carbonation and thickness. Complements the flavour profile very well.

Dr: An incredibly drinkable, wonderful apricot sour from Cascade. I walked into it expecting it to fill the shoes of the Kriek, which was wrong of me - but it remains a fantastic wild ale that will please sour fans. I'll have no trouble killing the bottle by myself; I wouldn't want to share it out of pure greed. I'd definitely pick this one up for aging or just for more consumption. Cascade continues to impress; I definitely have to visit them at some point. This is a highly recommended sour, and may be the best apricot beer I've ever had period.

Appearance – A hazy golden orange with a very nice head that dissipates into a thin layer that sticks around. A nice thin lacing.

Smell – This has a very nice “sour ale” smell. With vinegar, white wine, oak, and just a hint of apricot (surprisingly little).

Taste – White wine, funk, apricots, and vinegar.

Mouthfeel – Tart and dry with medium carbonation. A lingering sour aftertaste.

Drinkability – A generally don’t like apricot, but apricot wasn’t the dominating taste at all. I really liked this!

Bottle thanks to brewbetter, poured into a Hill Farmstead stem.

Pour: Completely hazy yellow orange with two fingers of off white, thick head. Head recedes, and leaves medium lacing. Body is really nice a radiant. Great looking beer.

Smell: Big apricots and lactic sourness up front. A nice funk I was not expecting, as well as some lemon pith and pear skins. A light white vinegar, but most of the sour is characterized by the lacticity.

Taste: Follows the nose with big apricot skin and must, as well as sharp lactic sourness. Sourness isn’t overpowering, but quite nice. A light bready sweetnes comes in. Finishes sour with pear skins.

Mouthfeel: Really quite sour. A nice puckering aspect. Funk is clean. Great carb.

Overall: Wonderful beer. Like Fou Foune sans the classic Cantillon funk. I loved this and will be seeking it out again. Thanks Neel!

A hazy orange appears, delicate gold lacing around the acerbic aroma. Head drops fast, what was once volumous is now minute. Aroma of citrus, oranges and tangerines, apricots and tannins, hints of oak and cane sugar.

My mouth is blasted by fruit, tart apricots that skin the teeth, a dentist is angry somewhere. Gaia has never seen an apricot like this. Tannins and oak keep the intense lactic sourness from feeling absurd white fruity aromatics keep the glee alive. Damn, just damn.

Cascade, you are doing it right.

Hazy light golden pour, thinner crop of white head fades into a small collar of filmy retention.

Fruit forward in the nose, juicy apricots with lactic sour scents. Funky yeast, white wine, oak. Inviting, slightly warm - I can't wait to try this.

Boom - apricots, ripe fruit, biting sourness. Lactic, slightly acidic but not overboard. Tempered amount of oak, hints of wine and white grape skin. More juicy apricots and funky, bretty sourness. Finishes with lingering fruit tartness and slight alcohol warmth.

Medium body, decent carbonation, dry and lasting on the tongue. This might be my favorite wild ale from Cascade yet, next to Vlad.

Cascade Brewing Aprciot Ale
2011 Project

Poured into my Blvd. Brewing tulip from a 750ml bottle.

Pours a hazy yet beautiful, well, peach color. Perfectly peachy. Nice orange hues and some mild honey golden hues as well. There is a nice 1 inch head that forms that is a bit dense but recedes quickly to a nice thick mat. (5.0)

Aroma starts off with fresh tart and slightly citrusy apricots. There is a very fruity tartness up front. There is some slight sweetness in there, as well as some slight yeasty phenols and funk. (4.0)

Flavor starts off as expected, tart apricot notes with then some nice mild sweetness to balance it out. Nice vinous character as well. There is woody notes that mix in with the yeasty funk that finishes the brew dry and clean. As the brew warms there are some nice spice and pepper notes that give the brew some more pop and offset slightly the intense tart notes. Very delicious brew with a nice dry finish and awesome sourness.(4.5)(4.5)

This is an excellent, flavorful brew with great tartness and slight apricot sweetness that plays well with some spice notes and woody wild funk. (4.5)
