Poured from the bottle into a tulip glass. Project 2011.

Out of the bottle pours a real solid nice head. Reaches about 3 fingers but soaps up a bit, a pink off white color, and falls normally. Body is quite dark, a brown burgundy color, with nice rising carbonation, some of it actually pink in appearance. Pretty solid and tasty looking.

Nose hits with classic notes, but simple and straight forward. Light fruit cherries, a hint of sweetness and a big juicy component to it also. Oak notes really don't seem to come forward as much. Otherwise pretty solid.

At first the mouthfeel comes across with a bit of wet, but then the palate hits with a good density. Therefore it hits a 4. Deep cherry fruit notes, but a light and slightly carbonated body. Finish is quite salty and briney, with a lot of prickly heat on the lips, but luckily not the palate. Fun sensations, a real tolerable and noticeable mix of salt and sour.

Overall the surprise is the salt component on this, which is large, but tolerable. It's a nice contrast, and unlike any other Kriek or fruit sour ales I've had before. Unique beer. Fun. Would have again.

2011 Project

A: Plum red in color, the beer yields no head whatsoever. Bubbles do race through what otherwise looks to be a thick body. 3.5

S: The aroma is oaky and dank, but is bolster by an assault of sweet cherries. It certainly doesn't smell like it's going to produce the spine tingling acidity as the apricot version, but it does smell good. 4

T: This kriek tastes much more sweet than I thought it would, but the beer certainly brings it. A deeply enjoyable blend of oak, sweet cherries, slight tartness, but no hit of alcohol. The crisp, clean aftertaste is full of cherries, as well. 4.5

MF: Medium body with a lower than average carbonation. The beer makes my mouth water and keep me coming back for more, seemingly having a never-ending drinkability. 4

O: Really a phenomenally blended beer that lived up to the hype. I didn't give it as high a rating because I wanted it to be more sour, but the cherries stepped up in a big way. You won't go wrong here. 4
