Bottle (2011 vintage) to ommegang wine flute
A: very dark ruby red almost brown it is very cloudy and near completely opaque. It had little to no head and a very thin white lacing around the top
S: unfortunately there is a smell of alcohol is fairly strong that being said you can definitely smell the earthy wood from the oak barrels. There is however some fruity smells in there but they are definitely I the background.
T:tart upfront but not in a powerful way it fades fast and goes more into a fruit juicy. there is some sour tart sweetness in the finish, but it is mild compared to others I have had. It is not necessarily bad, just not great.
M:the tartness really does not have any real effect on the feel. It is more juicy like and goes down extremely easily and smooth. There is next to no carbonation so I have to knock off points for that.
O: honestly I was kinda disappointed I don't know if I just expected too much but this is a fairly mild juicy kriek, maybe with some years on it could develop more but overall impression this is good but not great it's worth a try for sure.

Sampled in a chalice from a 750ml bottle purchased at Triangle Wine. 2011 Project.
Reddish brown with a haze and minimal head. Fantastic aroma with sweet and sour cherries. Flavors follow closely with loads of sour cherries and a hint of sweetness while still remaining on the drier side. A nice sour bite without it being completely dominant. The fruit flavors also play a key role with their depth and complexity. The consistency and carbonation are moderate with a smooth and silky finish.
This is an outstanding beer with a great combination of sour bite and fruit flavors. I liked it more and more with each sip. But with a significantly higher price than Rodenbach Grand Cru, I wouldn't make it a regular thing.
