750 ML Corked bottle / 2008 bottling
Thanks to dear ole' Mom, who lives down the road from the brewery, for picking this up for me on her last trip down to California. Luv ya!
A: Assertive "Pop" when removing the cork. Poured into a brandy snifter. Effervescent carbonation produced a small but decent head before dissipating quickly. Color is muddy cranberry brown and has a very attractive glow in the glass. I've had this sitting upright in the fridge for a month and was careful not to disturb any trub in the bottle...I would like to see the beer a bit cleaner.
S: All the expected components for this style are present in the aroma, but more on the subtle side. Tart, cherry fruitiness cuts through the mellow funk and caramel malt that lay down quietly in the background. Spicy red wine (think peppery Zinfandel in oak) in the background. Pleasant.
T: I am really enjoying this. The flavors have mellowed nicely over the years this has been aging in the bottle. Even the sour bite, while ever present, is rounded out by hints of caramel, baked bread, musty wet wood, and vanilla.
M: Prickly carbonation bounces off the tongue at first, but quickly gives way to a medium bodied blanket that lays down nicely. As expected, the carbonation sting dies down as the beer warms in the glass.
O: Sour, with subtle funk...fruit...and caramel with generous carbonation . Very drinkable for the style. I suspect that the time spent aging this one added quite a bit to the experience. I will go searching for a few more bottles of this 2008 before they are all gone. Cheers!

Sampled in a chalice from a 750ml bottle purchased at Triangle Wine. 2011 Project.
Reddish brown with a haze and minimal head. Fantastic aroma with sweet and sour cherries. Flavors follow closely with loads of sour cherries and a hint of sweetness while still remaining on the drier side. A nice sour bite without it being completely dominant. The fruit flavors also play a key role with their depth and complexity. The consistency and carbonation are moderate with a smooth and silky finish.
This is an outstanding beer with a great combination of sour bite and fruit flavors. I liked it more and more with each sip. But with a significantly higher price than Rodenbach Grand Cru, I wouldn't make it a regular thing.

A: pours a sinfully dark red that is almost brown with a finger of light tan head that slowly fades into a duvel tulip
S: smells of nice lactic sourness and sour cherries on the nose. slight sweet cherry aroma as well
T: tastes of sour cherry, biting acidity, vanilla and oak good lactic sourness with more cherry and a slight hint of funk. swallow is more sour cherry a bit more oak and a nice lactic sourness on the finish
M: medium in the mouth with soft but assertive carbonation. slightly drying on the finish but not overly so
O: a very good kriek/flanders red. qualities remind me of rodenbach with the oakyness and the sourness is excellent. It's quite good any way you slice it and it drinks pretty easy.
