This NW style sour red ale is blend of red ales aged in oak barrels for up to eight months, then aged on fresh Bing and sour pie cherries for an additional eight months. Aromas of rich, dark cherries, oak and slight hints of cinnamon are noticed up front. Dark, tart cherries and light spice notes dance on the palate and lead to a rich, dark, tart sparkling finish of dark cherries and oak.

750 mL bottle poured into a snifter. 2011 project.
Appearance - Deep red. No real life to it. A bit of a collar but not much else.
Smell - Musty and acetic acidity. Cherries throughout but the acidity is more prevalent. Clean aroma.
Taste - Puckering sour. Cherries and a ton of sourness. Malty for sure, but no sweetness at all. Musty to a less extent than the smell. Straightforward simple sour cherry flavor.
Mouthfeel - Very sour. Good carbonation. Medium bodied. Malt gives it some heft.
Overall - Definitely one for the sourheads out there. Not a complex flavor, but it's clean and has a nice cherry flavor.

Dark, ruby color. Thin, pinkish head. Tart cherries and oak in the funky aroma. Fruity sourness in taste. Some astringency at the end. Very sad that the brewery is closed now.

Purchased at Plonk in Fyshwick in January 2024 and drunk in September that year.
This is the 2021 vintage.
L: The beer pours a crystal clear, ruby red. The off-white head is the slightest rim along the edge of the glass. Lots of bubbles rush up the centre of the beer.
S: The nose is sour cherries, crabapples and acetic vinegar. It's not a pleasant smell for me, but it nails the brief on the beer.
T: The taste mirrors the nose, with sour, tart cherries, fermenting hay, and pucker-inducing crabapples. A soft note also conjures almonds, probably from any pits left in the cherries that the beer sat on for two years. Some heat from the alcohol is also noticeable on the swallow.
M: The mouthfeel is sharp and kicks on the way down. It matches the tart profile of the beer, but I'm not enjoying it.
O: I say this every time: I'm not too fond of sour beers, but I try to rate them based on their style rather than my enjoyment. Based on the average score from over 300 reviews, I'm the outlier in perceptions of the beer. As always, however, I'm glad to have tried the beer, so let's call it an educational experience!
Cheers!

2021 version. Has been Refridgerated since new.
7.8%.
Just a totally beautiful beer from the deep garnet red colour to the amazing funky/sour nose, to the lovely flavor profile. Sour but so under control.
Great carbonation and great dying mouth feel.
I think age has done this one wonders.
