Diagonal from the Green Dragon in East Portland...or whatever you call it. Large open doors connect the outside seating to the inside. Row of booths along the inside left side. Small bar.
Good selection for sour beers, all have a different twist and are pretty darn good. I had several, but too much sour for and I'm not feeling well. So i stopped.
Service isn't not good, but a bit "quippy". No worries, but some people could be persuaded to leave b/c of this. Not me. I had beer to drink.
Nice prices, although the samples were petite for the price. If you're there to sample all of their beers, better split it between days. It's either a pint or a thimble. Food? Not sure...

Was in portland and needed to get my sour beer fix and some lunch.
The food was fresh, and of good quality.
The sour beers where very intresting. The routating barrels they but up every tuesday are a nice touch.
The front doors open wide on nice days to let a breeze into the bar.
It has a nice bright and open feel.
The bathroom was very clean always a good sign.
Our bartender/server was helpful in pairing beer with food.
If your in portland and need a intresting place for lunch, i would give this ago.

Wow. This is a brewery that is serious about their beers, particularly sour beers. A fairly small place, the bar hold about 10 people with tables and chairs for several more. Basic no-nonsense decor, with tap handles jutting out from large barrels in the wall. Service was friendly and generally attentive. Lots of good beer to choose from with an emphasis on aged/vintage sour ales. There were two "live" ales on tap when I visited, and they were great as well. A few pale ale and porter selections for the more tender-palated. Food was decent, but definitely overpriced. I would definitely call this a must-hit place when visiting the area.

Stop #3 in Portland with the Grandparents and girlfriend.
Cascade was the number one place that I wanted to hit in Portland, so off we went to find it. I wanted to take a cab from downtown but my grandparents insisted on walking, after a longer than expected trek over the Morrison bridge and right past the closed HOTD we arrived.
Once inside it was obvious that this place was a newer establishment, everything seemed new, shiny, and clean. Our server was extremely nice and helpful. We all got beers that we enjoyed very much. Aside from their world class sour beers they also had some really tasty hoppy beers that i would love to see bottled someday.
They were starting to close up and our server called us a cab. I could have stayed there the whole evening to try all of the different beers that they brew, but I would have no chance of trying in CA.
Very enjoyable stop and when I'm back in Portland I will be back at Cascade.

Located in the Industrial district in Portland this is a diamond in the rough, literally. The building is absolutely beautiful and also has a great atmosphere. They have an amazing tap selection as well; they have about 13 different sours as well regular draft beers. The sizes of the glasses of sours are about 8ounces and are a bit pricey as well. But, even though they are pricey the sours are amazing. Overall, this is probably one of the best places to stop by in Portland; it is a place you can come and sit down and enjoy a great sour beer and also chat with with some great buddies and be able to hear yourself talk. One of the best places for sours in Portland!

My buddy and I spent over 3 hours chilling at the Cascade Brewing Barrel House one day this past weekend. The place is situated in a fairly commercial area close to the downtown bridges. Plenty of parking in the corner lot on the left side of the establishment. Lots of outdoor tables with shade umbrella's and a handicap accessible ramp that brings you inside a nice open front bar. Inside you find about 4 booth tables, about 4 round tables, 6 medium sized picnic tables, and about 8-10 bar seats. The bar stools are a really attractive brushed aluminum color which match the brushed aluminum hoops on the decorative wooden barrels that are scattered throughout the place. Our server Amber did a good job attending to us and was beer knowledgeable. The beer menu had some great house choices offered with several pour sizes. The food menu offered some nice small plates and medium plates and the ones we ordered had nice plate presentation plus were fresh and tasty.

Cascade Brewing Barrel House specializes in sour beers. I vistited for the first time as part of a media event. Cascade itself is unique because most of their beers are inoculated with lactobacillus (which provides the sour flavor), aged in oak barrels for up to a year, and then blended together to produce their premium line of specialty beers.
They produce over 47 varieties of beer! At any given time, 16 are on tap at the Barrel House. While most are sour varieties, they have several non-sour options--some aged in oak.
Food choices are limited, but good. The beer is a bit spendy, but you get a very unique and high quality beer! Very different from most brewpubs, and well worth the trip.

Loved it. The amazing selection of sours on draft... truly rockin. All good, some great, and they have a handful of more than competent 'regular' beers. Friends (non-crazya$$ beer drinker) found their Rye-PA to be solid; cant disagree. Food was merely ok-good with a more sammy and appetizer centric menu that wasn't exciting nor delicious in application, but service was excellent. On the plus side, you can get some bunk sandwiches around the corner (and visit HotD). Atmosphere was just ok. Not as cozy as id like to savor a characterful ale, but better than many. Really, no complaints here. A must visit in portland.

A: Stopped in here as they opened up on a Sunday. Already had plenty of customers. Pretty warming place, spacious and inviting.
Q: All Cascade Sours and Saisons are top notch. Not really a fan of everything else they do. Its good but not great. Between having exceptional Sours and average others I call it a good across the board.
S: The dude with the moustache working the beer was fun and on the job.
S: Plenty of sours, some you could get bottle, most I had at some point either draft elsewhere or bottle. However, the Saisons were good, one of them was a new treat for me. I had the Karma Citra. I wanted more but we were having car troubles and had to leave earlier than anticipated. Picked up a Vlad on the way out and a tee.
F: Did not try food, not sure of they had any.

One of the higher points on an awesome trip to Portland. Loved this place.
A: Great feel to this place, lots of tables sitting on barrels, tables out front on a nice patio, with a large garage door that can be opened up to connect all the seating together. Medium sized bar with some more seating there.
Q: Everything was great quality here; clean, good food and beer, great presentation.
Service: I heard that there might be some issues with service here but our server was awesome, brought us out tasters of whatever we wanted to try, talked to us about sours, suggested beers, and kept a good eye on us.
Selection: Great tap selection with lots of barrel-aged limited release beers and one-offs. Several bottles are available to purchase and take off-site too, which is nice (hint-hint HotD). Mostly sours and barrel-aged fruit beers here but there was also a Coffee Porter and some hoppy beers on tap.
Food: Decent food, we tried an awesome cheese plate filled with bread, pickled veggies, tart fruits and several cheeses - it all paired wonderfully with the sour beer. Food took awhile to get made, but it was also a fairly busy day.
I'd recommend this place in a heartbeat.
