Bottle poured into mug gives a small, coffe-colored head, which settles into a small amount on top that looks like whip cream melted into hot chocolate. Beer is just on the dark brown side of black. Has moderate lacing. Smell consists of milk choclate, bitter dark chocolate, coffe, and burnt crusty dark bread.

Taste has more of a burnt/roasty character than in the nose, also more bitter. But this is all balanced out well and finishes on a sweet note. Taste starts with bitter dark chocolate and just the right amount of hops, then milk chocolate and roastiness with lingering bitterness, finishing with a sweet aftertasts that is slightly bitter. Mouthfeel is light with high carbonation, would like a more substantial body with less carbonation, but it does work just fine.

A beer that I love to have with a piece of cake or some cookies.

12oz brown bottle with a vintage date.

Massive light brown head, stout black color. Iced hot cocoa, mild coffee, faint brown sugar, malt sweetness, and bread curst in the nose. Smooth, very creamy, roasted grain meets chocolate sweetness, modest hopping, sufficient bitterness, kiss of alcohol, finishes slightly sweet.

More or less what I expect in a Milk Stout is present, other elements ... mainly the chocolate character just add a pleasant flare to it all. Would love to see a version with chili peppers as well. They need to bring this one back.

2012 release

Appearance: Pours black with 3 fingers of a creamy tan head. Body is nearly opaque, but there are hints of ruby red around the edges of the glass when held up to light. Decent head retention and left some light spotty lacing.

Smell: Milk chocolate, sweet malt, dairy, very light roastiness. Chocolate smell is reminiscent of Nestle Quick powder.

Taste: Similar to the nose. Milk chocolate, a tad bit roastier than the nose, with some light coffee flavor in the finish. Semisweet throughout.

Mouthfeel: Lighter end of medium bodied. Medium carbonation. Mouthfeel is not quite watery but does feel a bit thin.

Overall: I was expecting a bit more, but this was still pretty good. Ideal if you're you're looking for something to have with (or as) dessert but don't want something too heavy.

A- Black with a two finger tan head.

S- Chocolate, roasted malts, hint of cherries.

T- Follows the nose, chocolate, light tartness, nice sweetness, hint of roasted malts.

M- Smooth, medium body, creamy.

O- A solid stout, nice creaminess and sweetness. Would pick this again.

Appearance (4.25) – Pours a black abyss. No light escapes. Two and a half finger chocolaty head. Carbonation visible only on the very sides which makes a really cool visual. Even holding it up to the light, even the edges are black as night. Lacing is minimal.

Smell (4.00) – Sweet chocolate notes. Hints of raspberry.

Taste (4.5) – Smell is confirmed. Really strong sweet milky chocolate. Slight smoky hints. Virtually all I am getting is chocolate milk – which is awesome. As much of it as I get, I never feel overwhelmed by it.

Mouthfeel (4.25) – Very smooth. Surprisingly drinkable for a stout. Reminds me of the sensation I get when I drink chocolate milk – I would like to gulp it down quickly but know my stomach might kill me.

Overall (4.25) – This is a perfect desert beer. Sooo much milky chocolate. The appearance is quite nice too. Really great pronounced chocolate which is never too much. I will be buying this again for sure.

12oz. bottle poured into a snifter. Thanks to Chris for sharing!

(A)- Pours a near pitch black color. Some minimal tan froth.

(S) -Hello milk chocolate! Plenty of sweet vanilla and chocolate.

(T)- Very similar to the smell in that it has tons of creamy milk chocolate and subtle hints of vanilla.

(M)- A very smooth carbonation level and a good balance. Thankfully it is not too sweet but easy drinking and smooth.

(O)- I quite like this one. Sweet but creamy and chocolatey.

Poured from a 12 oz bottle into a snifter.

Quiet a thick pour for a milk stout. Dark brown color while pouring. Pitch black inside the glass. Less than a finger thick tan colored head that recedes pretty fast into a thin ring. Excellent lacing. Opaque.

Aroma is very sweet and malt forward. A good amount of roasted malts and some sweet dark chocolate. Some vanilla and cream. No alcohol.

Flavor is just about the same. A sweet tasting and roasted malt heavy taste. Chocolate and vanilla. Finish is sweet.

Mouth feel is medium light. A good silky touch. Very creamy. Low to moderate carbonation. Smooth.

ST: 12oz poured into a pint glass.

A: Black with blood red tints at the bottom of the glass. Not a large head, spotty, brown ring around the glass with an island in the middle.

S: Chocolate, roasted malts, coffee, Guinness latte.

T: Sweet milk chocolate, yahoo, roasted malt, slight woody smoke, with a bit of bitterness in the finish.

M: Medium, smooth, creamy.

O: Smooth and tasty, sweet with enough of a bitter finish to not be cloying, Moo-Hoo reminds me of yahoo with a more bitter kick. A desert beer, it would handle blue cheese (Stilton) well.

A - pour gives about an inch or so of dark brown head. Leaves no lacing. Dark dark brown to black

S - milk chocolate, vanilla, some light malt

T - definitely get the chocolate milk vibe. Thin and quick flavor profile. Milk chocolate, light vanilla. Some maltiness. Finishes with darker bitter chocolate.

M - average. Medium carb, milky lactose.

O - overal, glad I tried it. Wouldn't turn it down, but wouldn't seek it out.

A - Dark brown/black with dark brown, large, dense head. Highlights of dark brown with brilliant clarity.
S - Clean maltiness with moderate roasty notes (light charcoal) and a delicate sweetness throughout. No Hops.
T - Roasty chocolate notes up front immediately followed by milk chocolate notes. Sweet balanced milky notes (lactose and maltose mix?). No hops.
M - Smooth creamy mouthfeeld with an overall medium-heavy viscosity.
D - A very nice, drinkable chocolate sweet stout I will have again and again. I would consider this a lighter version of a sweet stout but it is delicious and drinkable (hard to do considering how much flavor there is packed in there!).

A: Incredibly dark, totally opaque. The head is maybe 1/2 a finger, and it disappears pretty quickly.

S: The chocolate from this one hits as soon as you pour. Not a whole lot behind it, some roasted malts, and maybe a little bit of a wood smoke smell.

T: Extremely rich chocolate taste. Roasted malts, some burnt malt bitterness, and also some hop bitterness. The finish is rather woody, but still with a lot of chocolate in it.

M: Creamy and smooth, moderately heavy body, fairly light on the carbonation (but heavier than I'd expect from a beer this dark) and slightly sticky.

O: A desert beer, and a sipper to be sure. If you like chocolate then there's no reason not to like this beer. Rich and creamy and heavy. Nice bitterness keeps it from being too sweet, though, so drinking one is not too much of a struggle

T: The taste follows the smell perfectly, strong chocolate taste with slight bit of coffee with a very smooth finish with a very very light hop presence.

M: Nice full bodied creamy mouth feel, not quite as "thick" as some but nice none the less.

O: This is by far one of my favorite stouts to date would recommend to anybody.

Thanx to Damian74Shensky:

Into a nonic:

A: dark brown body with a three finger off-white head that quickly settles to one finger leaving some nice clingy light lacing in rings above the bulb of my nonic, the head is level with some small light bubbles noticed in the center

S: strong milk chocolate up front, some light alcohol

T: sweet but balanced through the milk chocolate that seems a bit more balanced, bitter aftertaste

M: light to medium, sessionable, creamy, carbonation is barely felt, sweet sticky finish

O: what a nice milk/sweet stout, I'd have this one again, maybe not a superior beer, but still good.

Got talked into this by the waiter last night- he was quite persuasive, given that my favorite beer was on tap (and let's be honest, a milk stout from a brewery an hour away isn't on tap all that often...) Glad he did- this beer didn't become my favorite, but it sure is good!

A- nice and dark, 1-finger head, a little lacing.

S- light considering the appearance

T- very nice, the chocolate was not too strong but added a nice richness to an already pleasantly rich beer. The bitterness was enough to balance the sweetness, the sugars were slightly caramelized, and the roasted malt lent a nuttiness that was perhaps the dominant characteristic. Very balanced.

M- smooth without being syrupy. The bitterness lingered just enough and the next breath after swallowing brought entirely new flavors in the beer to prominence.

Overall- very happy!

A - Poured very dark ,almost black. Had very little head. Maybe a 1/2 a finger of light tan that dissappeared quickly

S - Lighter smelling than it looks. Could smell the melts with hints of chocolate an slightly smokey.

T - Very tasty! I could definately taste the chocolate milk! Also dtected hints of coffee and a slight better cherry taste on the finish.

M - Felt much slighter than it looks. Very silky and smooth. Few bubbles though

O - Very impressed and will pick it up again. Interesting flavors that are well done and balanced. Not a beer that I would set down and drink multiples of but wouldnt mind having a few around for cravings!

Pours a dark chocolate brown with a finger of head that quickly dissipates but leaves a trace of lacing behind on the glass. There are some mild roasted malt notes in the nose. The roasted malt flavor is present, but relatively light. This offering is not as creamy or sweet as most milk stouts, but the distinct taste of cocoa more than makes up for the lack of sweet notes. There is a bitter finish to this that is slightly out of style as well.

Very good, and certainly not the adult version of Yoo-Hoo as some have described it.

2011 bottle I recieved last week.

Not much head, poured out and looked like a stout.

Smells good almost smoked or roasted and chocolate.

Might be the age but not a real milky flavor which I am good with. Thin mouthfeel and lots of roasted chocolate taste. Almost reminds me of a s'more.

Pours pitch black with a small head and a little lacing.

The smell is roasted malts and sweet dark chocolate. It's on the weak side.

The taste is roasted malts with milky chocolate. It's sweet and taste good just a little too weak.

The mouthfeel is pretty light with low carbonation.

Overall the flavour, smell and mouthfeel are all lighter than I hoped for. It tastes decent but for the price expected more.

Pours black, black and more black - only a thin sliver of dark-ass brown can be seen on the very top of the brew when held to the light. Otherwise - a black hole. Light-ish tan head piles up quickly, lasts for a while, and looks creamy as hell. Aroma on this beer is a little light at first, hard to get anything useful out of it, but picks up about 5 to 10 minutes in. Sweet chocolates up front; milky, creamy, and sugary. Lots of sweetness in the form of roasted malts and barley as well. Delicate, soft, and sweet - not much bitterness or harshness, if any, to be detected (at least on the aroma). Once this baby warms up a little bit, the nose becomes even more powerful, yet remains mellow and easy-going. Definitely a nice treat.

The taste is blueprinted by a map of roasted barley; high on the roast, full of sweetness, almost sugary, but far from cloying. No real char or ashiness from the malts, perfect for this style. Dense, milky chocolates - I'd like to say "bittersweet" chocolates, but they're really not bitter at all, just sweet and a little toasty. Takes like a coffee with cream and sugar, but substitute cocoa and roasted barley for the coffee. Surprisingly enough, I'm not getting any real coffee flavor from this. I think in almost any stout, you can probably convince yourself there are "coffee" flavors in there, but really, there are none jumping out here, so I won't even go there. Oats, grains, and sweetness abound. Creamy, silky and borderline thick on the palate, ending with a mild nuttiness and a delicate sweetness with an ever-so-slight bitter twinge from the roasted malt.

Very good milk stout. Sweet without being too sweet, easily drinkable and enjoyable all the way through. I've been pretty impressed with the Terrapin beers I've had so far... I must seek out more.

Poured from bottle into pint glass. Nice looking deep black pour with a small off white head that fades away to a tiny trace. Smell is that of milk chocolate, carmel, sugar and perhaps a hint of coffee. Taste follows the nose, but it's the smooth blend of flavors that makes this brew stand out. Hit of chocolate milk and roasted malts on the front with a great transition to sugar and milk with a subtle hop close. Feel is just rights for the style. Silky and creamy on the tongue. Adequate carbonation. Overall- My favorite milk stout to date. Great taste that is sessionable and a tough brew to sit down. Not overly chocolate or milky. Smooth with excellent roasted malts. A very solid brew and must try-

2012 version, poured into a pint glass from a bottle purchased today from Taps, my local bottle shop and tasting room. I was intrigued after seeing it 2 weeks ago at the World Beer Festival in Columbia, SC, thought I'd give it a go.

Poured into my pint glass it becomes a dark, murky and mysterious stranger. "Moo Hoo who are you?"

It has a minuscule head with a tiny bit of lacing which peaks out shyly before disappearing into the body of the beer.

Warm chocolate smell reminds me of going into a Russell Stover store at the holidays. Yum.

Smooth mouthfeel, not at all like the beer I'm most familiar with (IPA's, APA's) I wasn't sure I would like this as my exposure to milk stout has been limited, but pleasantly surprised by the taste. A supremely drinkable milk stout, will have again. Definitely a cold weather beer, probably very nice around a campfire.

2012 version in a 12 oz. bottle that pours a very dark brown body, nearly black. Decent two-finger light tan head that doesn't hang around too long and leaves very little lacing.

Not very complex in the aroma: mostly chocolate with a touch of malt and figs in the background.

The flavor is very similar to the aroma. Mostly chocolate nibs and a small amount of malt in the background. The is an occasional sour note like a ripe raisin, but overall it is as expected - chocolately.

A bit light in texture for a "stout" but it is, again, as expected for a milk stout. Overall, a decent interpretation and fairly enjoyable.

Bottled poured into a CCB Snifter. Thanks to Smokinoak for this one!

A: Opaque black with a nice, dark, tan-colored 1-finger fluffy head. The head disappears pretty quickly and doesn't leave much lacing on the glass.

S: Definite chocolate smells. Malty, with some wofts of black licorice and even some dark sweetness that almost smells like fruity figs.

T: Chocolate through and through dominates. A little malty.

M: A little watery for my liking. Not as thick as I would have loved. Good level of carbonation, but not real creamy like I would anticipate.

O: Not bad, but I had some pretty high hopes. If I would have gone in with zero expectation I wouldn't have been disappointed, so I'm trying to think of it that way. Just wish it would've been a little creamier. Overall ok.

2012 Vintage

A: Pours an opaque black with less than 1 fingers width of mocha colored head. Dissipates down pretty quickly. Leaves only the faintest hints of spotty lacing.

S: Chocolate, milk/lactose, peanut butter fudge. Quite sweet. Not terribly complex but smells really nice.

T: Lots of chocolate. Milk chocolate upfront with bakers chocolate on the finish. Hints of roasted malt. The lactose characters arent overly prominent, which is nice, as sometimes I find that unappealing in a Sweet Stout. Tasty.

M/D: Smooth, appropriate low carbonation, a touch thin, but drinkability is very good.

O: Overall, this is a well done brew. Im not a huge fan of the style, but this is one of the better ones I have had. Is a touch thin, and not terribly complex, but nice aroma and flavor, with good drinkability. I would drink this again, and am looking forward to making a Wake N Moo.
