Reviewed from notes. Poured from 12 oz. bottle into pint glass.

A: Deep deep dark brown, very nearly opaque. 1/2" head that is a medium tan. The head stays throughout with some lacing

S: A bit muted overall – chocolate with coffee aroma (what did you expect?).

T: taste is chocolate, cacao, sweet but not cloyingly so. There is some alcohol bite at the end.

M: Mild bitter aftertaste (like after eating dark chocolate). Very smooth, creamy mouthfeel; decent amount of carbonation for the style.

O: A good solid beer, and I think an excellent example of style. Personal preference, though, is that it's nothing I'd specifically seek out again.

Bottle poured into mug gives a small, coffe-colored head, which settles into a small amount on top that looks like whip cream melted into hot chocolate. Beer is just on the dark brown side of black. Has moderate lacing. Smell consists of milk choclate, bitter dark chocolate, coffe, and burnt crusty dark bread.

Taste has more of a burnt/roasty character than in the nose, also more bitter. But this is all balanced out well and finishes on a sweet note. Taste starts with bitter dark chocolate and just the right amount of hops, then milk chocolate and roastiness with lingering bitterness, finishing with a sweet aftertasts that is slightly bitter. Mouthfeel is light with high carbonation, would like a more substantial body with less carbonation, but it does work just fine.

A beer that I love to have with a piece of cake or some cookies.
