Poured from 12oz bottle into a pint glass.
Appearance: completely black with no light let through save for some brown highlights around the edges. Head is a finger of creamy dark tan foam with OK retention. Quite good!
Smell: creamy, chocolatey aroma with just a tiny hint of spiciness. Very natural chocolate character. Not terribly complex, but it seems extremely well-crafted. I like it.
Taste: smooth and creamy chocolate flavor. There's a hint of bitterness about this, but it's not ashy or astringent like many darkly roasted beers. There's also almost no vegetal hop component; it's very smooth and largely error-free in my book. A good example of the style.
Mouthfeel: medium body with an exceedingly well-integrated carbonation and a wonderfully creamy, smooth and satisfying texture. Awesome.
Overall: I like this beer a lot. It's got what chocolatey sweet stouts ought to have: smooth milk chocolate flavor with an incredibly creamy texture. Kudos!

12 oz bottle was poured into a pint glass.
Appearance: This beer poured a one finger mocha head that reduced to a small layer. It is a pitch black color with no clarity or bubbles coming up through the glass.
Smell: Creamy vanilla milky sweetness, roasted coffee, mocha, and a little smoke.
Taste: Same as above with a little mild bitterness and some warm booze in the end. Very tasty.
Mouthfeel: Silky smooth, full bodied, low to medium carbonation, and a little bitterness.
Overall: Pretty solid and standard milk stout that is very comparable with others. Happy yo have found this 2012 release while in Virginia a few weeks ago. Just wish Terrapin would make an effort to distribute to the Boston area. Oh well, I guess I can't complain too much.

Acquired at a local bottle shop last week. Expectations are high; I loved Wake N Bake. Seasonal 2012. 12 fl oz brown glass bottle with green standard pressure cap served into a Mitchells of Lancaster flared stem-tulip in me gaff in low altitude Los Feliz, Los Angeles, California. Reviewed live.
Served cold, straight from the fridge, and allowed to warm over the course of consumption. Side-poured with standard vigor as no carbonation issues are anticipated.
A: Pours a 2.5 finger tan colour head. Lovely cream. Good thickness. Good (~4-5 minute) retention. Body colour is a dark solid black; not quite a jet black. No yeast particles are visible; opaque (both nontransparent and non-translucent). No bubble show. Light even lacing as the head recedes. Head is fluffy and soft. Appealing across the board. Good for the style, if expected. Can't wait to drink it.
Sm: Cocoa, light coffee, chocolate malt, oats, brown sugar, dark malts, unrefined sugar, and some subtle backgrounded roast. A lovely aroma. Fantastic for the style. Brown sugar is dominant. Not getting any lactose from the aroma. No yeast character or alcohol is detectable. Very inviting. Moderate in strength. Some cream. Great overall.
T: Mmm. Lovely milk chocolate/hot cocoa complements a brilliantly executed dark & chocolate malt body with brown and unrefined sugars present throughout. No yeast character or alcohol comes through. Not getting any lactose. Some subtle buried roast caters to my own personal tastes quite nicely. Cream. Cocoa notes are fantastic, with definite cocoa powder character alongside the deep evocative cocoa nibs. Fantastic build for the style and excellent balance. Really having this one. Complex yet subtle. Good depth of flavour. Very impressive. Not at all too sweet. Any hop presence is minimal.
Mf: Creamy, smooth, and wet. Good carbonation. Good thickness. Lightly coarse to coax out the flavours; I think this trait emerges from the unrefined sugars. Good presence on the palate. Light and easy to drink. Not harsh or sharp. I'd stop short of calling it refreshing, but it's damn well executed.
Dr: Extremely drinkable. It's just a damn good example of the style. Terrapin's slowly winning me over after a couple initial misses. Maybe they just do stouts well and that's it? I'd definitely have this one again. Seems like a great winter seasonal. I'd buy this by the 6 pack, for sure. Quite impressed by it. I'd recommend it to friends. Would love to try it on-draught. Probably ages decently; I wouldn't recommend more than a year or two.
