Hopped with fresh 2012 Citra hops. 22-ounce brown glass bottle poured into a Duvel tulip glass. Served at approximately 45 degrees F.
Pours especially clear, showing off a deep orangeish-copper hue with a huge two-fingered head of beige-tinged froth. As the head falls away, it clings to the glass with herculean strength, leaving behind long legs and fat splotches of lace.
The nose is a wonderful melange of citrus and tropical fruit notes, showing off a spread of blood orange, mango, papaya, and a hint of pineapple, all encircled by hints of starfruit. This showcase is what Citra hops are all about.
Smooth and medium-bodied, with a surprisingly lightly carbonated mouthfeel. Unlike the nose, the palate is pleasantly malt-accentuated and well-balanced. Bready, grain-like malt notes take the show from the get-go, teased in the middle with a balancing dose of dry bitterness that shows touches of grapefruit and orange around the edges but which doesn't intrude much further than that. Going down, more grainy breadiness takes hold and lingers afterward in the finish, melding with a moderately-dry bitterness to leave the drinker reaching for another.
The combination of an amazing bouquet, a balanced palate, and a dry finish yield one heck of a drinkable brew, and this showcase of brewing talent and a magnificent hop variety speaks of a beer that Terrapin should think heavily on re-releasing in the future.

22 oz bottle poured into a Sam Adams pint glass at cellar temperature.
L – Medium amber color with a 2-finger bubbly, rocky, cream-colored head. Really nice retention and a little bit of patchy lacing. Absolutely crystal clear with lots of bubbles.
S – Some bready and caramel malt but definitely mostly Citra hops with mango, grapefruit, and orange aromas. The hops are there but this doesn’t seem like it’s going to a palate bruiser by any means – not necessarily a bad thing.
T – Follows the nose well. It starts off sweet with bready, caramel malt and citrus and mango flavors. Smooth hop bitterness appears towards the finish. Very balanced.
F – Medium-bodied with good carbonation, a sticky and mouth-coating feel, and a bitter and dry finish. Grapefruit hop bitterness lingers only for a bit.
O – This is a nice IPA. It’s tasty, drinkable, and well-balanced. It seems like I may have the wrong idea about these fresh hop ales – they usually seem to be smooth and balanced and not the bitter beasts that I’m expecting them to be. Either way, this is a good beer, and I’m glad I got to try it.

Poured into a pint glass. No freshness date which I find ironic.
A- Pours a medium amber color with a 1/2 inch beige head that retains decently before popping away to a thick ring around the edge of the glass and a large, bubbly patch of surface foam. Sticky, melty lacing.
S- I'm not sure, but I'm willing to bet this is the 2012 version (the shop I got it from has a low turnover so some bottles just sit) because I believe I'm picking up the Citra hops. Very floral and citrusy aroma that's somewhat pungent. There's a malt sweetness beneath as well.
T- Smoothly balanced bitter-to-fruity ratio. Mild notes of grapefruit mingle with the semi-sturdy malt backbone. Very vibrant and juicy with little trace of alcohol.
M- Somewhat sharp and oily. Medium carbonation, same with the body.
O- Great IPA that's easy to drink and doesn't skimp on flavor. The only thing that's annoying is I'm pretty sure I had the 2010 version which I also enjoyed but, since they keep the same label every year and there are no freshness dates on the bottles, there's no way of me knowing for sure which year it was because I didn't review beers back then. Oh well, this one's good and I guess that's all that matters.
