Drank from a 12 fl. oz./355 ml bottle acquired in a trade with surge1311
Vintage: 2012
Served in a snifter
The beer poured dark brown with a medium viscosity for the style. A tight, creamy, three-finger, saddle brown crown topped the liquid. Thick, drippy streaks of lacing coated the glass. Eventually, the lacing turned into spotty droplets.
Coffee notes completely dominated the nose. Super strong and potent. Roasty, French press coffee came to mind. Perhaps some deeper, earthier, coffee grounds as well. Lots of dry, husky oatiness. Some vanilla was also apparent.
Coffee was extremely prominent in the flavor profile as well. Intense, French roast coffee notes. Boatloads of deep, dark, roasted malts. Smoky and almost a touch woody. Hints of vanilla lent the beer a subtle sweetness. The finish consisted of a mix of crisp, dry oats and heavily roasted malts. The malts bordered on tasting charred and were somewhat bitter, but in a pleasant way. Some booziness came through in the finish as well.
The beer was nearly full bodied for the style. Super creamy, frothy and smooth. The oatmeal lent the mouthfeel a notable slickness.
Terrapin Coffee Oatmeal Imperial Stout is unquestionably the most coffee-forward beer I have ever tried. There were absolutely no subtleties in it, and I loved it that way. Non-coffee lovers would be wise to steer clear of this blissful offering.

A - Jet black with little head. Looks like a glass of black coffee.
S - Dominated by coffee, followed up by roasted malts, chocolate, and a hint of vanilla.
T - Follows the nose, with a heavy, fresh, black coffee flavor. In addition, there is a noticeable presence of roasted malts and chocolate, with just the slightest hint of vanilla. The coffee bitterness is definitely there, as well.
M - Medium-bodied with balanced carbonation. Creamy texture.
O - Delicious beer. Well worth the wait and searching. Highly recommended for those who enjoy coffee stouts as much as I do. I compare this to Founder's Breakfast Stout, as I feel the two taste pretty similar.

look: 4.5 | smell: 4.5 | taste: 4.25 | feel: 4.25 | overall: 4.5
Appearance: Pours nearly black with 1/2 finger of a dark tan, almost brown head. Body is opaque
Smell: Wafts to your nose from 3 feet way. Coffee and chocolate easily. It feels like Tom and Jerry when the Cheese smell lifts Jerry off of the ground.
Taste: Tastes like I smell thank you very much. Chocolate, coffee and malt come through well
Mouthfeel: Creamy and finishes with a warm alcohol feel.
Overall: If you like coffee stout, this is a must have.
