Growler filled at the Green Growler Grocery in Croton-on -Hudson, NY.

FYI they call this an Imperial Dopplebock....

Pours dark brown, muddy ruby amber, medium khaki head that stays, then eventually leaving a super fine film, collar and moderate scattered lace, fields of high and low sheeting. Nice looking beer.

Mild nose of sweet malt, caramel and vanilla.

This is a tasty, smooth and malty amber kinda brew, some subtle hops come in late to add the balance, but mostly getting the sweet malts. Caramel, vanilla and again subtle slightly smokey tasting grain. Alcohol well hidden. Malty beer lovers- go get some.

A treat to try another beer from this tiny and high quality brewery.

On draft at The Lark, East Northport, NY.

Poured a medium amber hue with a on finger foamy white head bother was good retention and lacing.

The smell featured crisp caramel malts with abundant hop aromas.

The taste consisted of layers of malt that offered caramel, burnt sugar and smoke flavors. The experience ended with a punchy citric hop.

The mouthfeel was typical of the style.

Overall an enjoyable hop forward red ale whose complex malts masked well the relatively hefty ABV.
