Pours near black where no light passes even on the edge of the glass. Moderate head but it dies quickly and leaves nearly no lace on the glass (just a couple of small spots).
There's a berry sweetness initially to the nose. The black patent malt (e.g. burnt aroma) comes in the background. Unknowingly, I might think there's a raspberry infusion in this stout.
Starts sweet with a large dollop of alcohol warmth. Not nearly as harsh with the bittering blackened malt as some imperial stouts. This one is nearly syrupy in body and sugar content. There's a some ashen flavors in the swallow but overall this comes across as a decently hopped barley wine. Rich body with a subdued carbonation level.

This is a bottle-conditioned stout coming in at 8.5% ABV. I've had this in the bottle and at the brewery (a one-man operation run out of an old barn). Color is nice and dark molasses. Smell has some chocolate and licorice. Small lasting cappuccino head. Taste: creamy with dark fruits like prunes and figs with stronger chocolate throughout. Can pick up the alcohol at the finish. Mouthfeel is full like a good imperial stout should be. This is top-notch stuff that is obviously created with great care. If you are ever in the Lakes Region you should definitely pick this up, along with Squam's Wee Heavy. This one gets a strong A.

22oz bottle pours a really nice opaque/black color brew with some slight lacing but a very decent frothy mocha head that settles to a steady cap. Aromas of chocolate and coffee roast and cocoa. Tastes the same as the smell but better. Mouthfeel was slick, smooth, and coated the palate. All and all this Imperial Stout was fantastic and far exceeded my expectations. Very nice indeed!

Dark, almost black, little lacing and weak head.
Fruity, chocolatey smell, bit on the weak side
Good taste of fruit and dark chocolate. tastes better than it smelled
Mouthfeel is not as heavy as I like in an imperial stout
Overall it is a good imperial stout, but when a RIS fix, I'll grab an Old Rasputin

Poured from a bomber into a mug, the beer is a rich, thick, black coloring with only the slightest hints of a filmy head that quickly disappear as the beer settles. The beer leaves a slick, trace lacing as you drink, and that lacing slides back down the glass into the beer in short time. Very heavy in appearance. Aromas of heavy roast, bitter coffee, boozy notes, and a subtle molasses highlight. Flavors are heavily roasted and bitter forward, but with a creamy, almost velvety character that balances, and very rich molasses once again stepping forward, bringing a very layered depth to the beer. Not as heavy as most imperial stouts in the ABV department, the beer does have a subtle warmth that builds. The aftertaste is more of the richly sweet molasses, with hints of baker's chocolate and bitter coffee. Very robust and creamy in mouth, with a slick, palate coating, lingering finish. This is a solid beer, and fairly easy to drink given the style.

Poured into a 16 oz snifter. Pours a pitch black, with a wonderful mocha head, that leaves nice looking lace. Smell is very roasty coffee, dark chocolate, molasses, vanilla, and a touch of smoke. Taste is all of that, but I love how this beer has matured from the first time I reviewed it, very nice stout! Body is medium, nice carbonation, a bit dry as expected, and excellent drinkability. This is a very solid RIS.

A - Dark black, head falls away much too quickly to nearly a complete disappearance.
S - Nice roasted grains, chocolate, etc but a bit mild.
T - MUCH too mild for an Imp Stout. Very reserved. A bit of roast, not much else.
M - Very thin body. VERY watery.
Hopefully this guy gets everything in working order. Maybe I'll try it again if I have heard that things have changed.
