Drinking a cellar temp bottle poured into a snifter at cellar temp. Ive had the bottle in the cellar for about 6 months, finally getting around to opening it.
The beer pours a clear amber to copper hue with fizzy eggshell white head foaming up about 1 cm and fading rapidly to a few wispy islands. There are a few slow streams of bubbles rising to the surface throughout the sampling.
Aroma is clean grainy malt and a bit of corn husk. I also get a little caramel and almost toffee mixed in the nose. Hops are minimal with just a little bit of an earthy presence.
First sip reveals an average body and fine fizzy carbonation. Seems about right for an amber ale.
Flavor starts with grainy sweet malt and caramel. Maybe a touch of sweet brown sugar and then rolls to mild, but present with some earthy notes and a mild general bite that lingers briefly on the swallow.
The beer is well crafted and interesting enough to enjoy more than one bottle. It isnt super complex, but I dont think the style has to be. A nice brew from a small NH brewery.

22 oz. bottle purchased from Bert's about four weeks ago and poured into a pint glass.
A: Pours an attractive orange-red amber with a slightly fluffy, thick head. Lots of bubbles rising at first, with a nice head that sticks around for several minutes. As the beer settles, it becomes a bit cloudier. Very nice looking.
S: Definitely the weakest aspect; the smell is pleasant, but faint. Slightly grassy, slightly boozy smelling, but it requires a big whiff.
T: Much stronger and more interesting that the smell. This begins a biscuit malty taste with nice bitter hop notes darting around. The most interesting aspect, though, is a smokey flavor that begins somewhere mid-sip and leaves a hint of smoke on the aftertaste. This is very unusual, but very pleasant. It distinguishes an otherwise good, but standard amber/pale ale.
M: Medium bodied, it begins a bit light, finishes more fuller, and ends with a nice roundness that seems to fill the mouth.
D: This is a very drinkable beer. It's very tasty, and the smokiness sets it apart. The mouthfeel is extremely pleasant, and with the palate-pleasing finish, it begs another sip. This is a beer that could easily become a go-to or session ale.
This is the first Squam beer I've tried, and I really enjoy it. This is not a challenging beer, but a very nice, well-made, affordable session beer. I'll definitely pick it up again, and look forward to trying their other offerings.

I got this bottle at the Case N' Keg in Meredith N.H. while up at Lake Winnipesaukee over a long Thanksgiving weekend.
Poured from a 22oz. bottle into a pint glass.
The color is hazy orange with yellowish highlights. It has a finger of foamy off-white head and some thick lacing left on the glass.
The smell is earthy with a slight leafy or grassy flavor that reminds me of Autumn. Some funky bitterness is in the background and is making me anticipate a hoppy tasting amber ale.
The taste has some pale malt flavor with a tease of bitterness and some interesting buttery flavors. There is a biscuit flavor that hangs for a short time before being washed away by a watery flavor that keeps this beer from staying in the pallet too long.
This beer as a medium body that feels more robust at first then takes it down a notch and washes away any hard feeling with a nice drinkable feel. This is a decent thirst quenching beer and is a typical amber ale.

Pours a three finger off-white head that fades slowly leaving a good lace. Cloudy amber color. Light-medium carbonation and light bodied. Slight hoppy nose. Flavor is light hops with the malts staying in the background. Light bitter aftertaste. $5.99 for a 22oz bottle from Holderness General Store Holderness, NH.

Sampled on September 25, 2010. It pours a rather cloudy golden amber with about a half-inch of head that stays around for awhile and leaves some light lacing. The aroma is very mellow but brings out a wide array of malts, light hops, lemon-zing, and some yeast. The mouthfeel is thin to medium. The taste embellishes the hops more than anything else with a smooth malty sensation kicking around in the background. I also get this citrus or more precisely - lemon-like hint in the corners. This seems like it would be a good choice on a hot day.
